1066RC as it's local to me and great for racing stuff
DMS is great and has quite a lot of older racing stuff - some smaller brands are well represented here.
MBModels is my go to and the one I probably use the most overall - pricing and customer service are second to none.

I got the Koswork edition - I think its worth it for the driveshafts and turnbuckles alone tbh. All the carbon bits are just a bonus.
Depends on pricing really - if the Koswork edition is over £100 more then it might be cheaper to get source essential bits yourself and get a regular kit.

Yea I've used them before a few times as well no issues.
I can get the Koswork edition for £395 and £310 for the Mid 2022. How does the 60th Anniversary Edition compare to the Koswork and Mid 2022?

The car I used back in the 90s was the Kyosho ZX. I used to race. I'd usually either come top of B group or mid A group.
I remember some of the model names, like the Optima Mid. That had just come on the scene and was a favourite of the top drivers.
The Schumacher brand was good, as well as Losi and Tamiya.

60th version has the carbon towers already fitted, and has decent front driveshafts. I think it also has TiN coated shock shafts. The anodizing on most of the metal parts is also a cool gun metalish colour.
The main difference is that it comes with ball diffs and the body from the Optima Pro.
Ended up nabbing the Optima Mid 2022 for £300 today, did consider all other options but a good deal came up in the end.
I went for a RC Crawler meet up at a quarry at the weekend. Been a couple of times before with my 1/24 trucks and had a lot of fun, but I think Sunday was the time to finally convince me to cave and buy/build a 10th scale.
Spoilt for choice on options right now. I'm leaning towards a kit to build up as I'll enjoy the build process, an Element RC Enduro Builders Kit 3 is my top choice right now. Long term I'll probably get a Hobbywing Fusion of some form, but may start with a cheap brushed motor since I've got a hobbywing 1060 lying around spare. Might grab some cheap second hand wheels to tide myself over until I decide on a proper wheel/tyre combo and what sort of looks I want.
Anyone got any other recommendations? (not that I've seen much if any crawler discussion in this thread for some time!)

The Element Enduro builders kit V3 is a nice bit of kit the new Element Comp Fox version is a decent alternative to it - but about £150 more.
Traxxas TRX4 is probably slightly more capable than the Enduro V3 and can also be had in kit form. The TRX4 is a bit of a benchmark chassis against which most new kits get judged - it's a safe bet.
In my own collection I went for a Tamiya CR01 and a CC02 - neither are more capable than any of the kits above though and took a lot of fiddling with to get decent performance (but thats Tamiya).
There's absolutely stacks of crawlers on the market - but very few in kit form, the forums at rccrawler.com might be worth a bit of browsing. The Vanquish brand are now distributed by Schumacher in the UK so should have good support. Gmade, Axial and RC4WD might be worth watching some reviews for - though historically they've been a bit up and down in quality - I don't know what the latest stuff they do is like.
Something to think about is trail trucks, vs rock crawlers, vs rock racers - and which of those has the most appeal to you. Some kits are definitely more suited to trail running even though they are advertised as rock crawlers. Lots of kits are advertised as a crawler but are only really suited to one of the the above categories with very few chassis really be great at all 3 types of running.
Interesting, I can see it's more capable in terms of features with the 2 speed gearbox, diffs and portals. But from what I gather it's less capable in terms of high end rock crawling and so on. Honestly I'm kinda torn...
On one hand, having a truck with those extra features to do a bit of everything sounds appealing, but on the other hand it's a lot of extra cash and I really don't like Traxxas as a company nor want to pay for their electronics in a kit which I'd not be using long term anyway. But that extra cash skips some faff around picking a body and wheels... Choices choices.
Pretty much everyone at the weekend was recommending the Elements, although in hindsight I didn't ask the chaps running the TRX4s
I'm leaning towards Rock Crawler primarily, but likely with a full body that can atleast pass off as a reasonable trail truck. Another option I guess is to save some cash initially and pick up some cheap RTR / second hand and just customise it as I see fit.
Just googled L&L models, didn't realise there was a model shop there, thought the nearest was Newport. Good to know.

A little over 30 years ago, I got into building a Tamiya car and enjoying it briefly before hitting a curb and doing all kinds of damage, it seemed an expensive mistake.
My Grandson is showing a great interest in RC cars and I thought I might get a cheap one and see how he gets on with it, when I say cheap, I mean £150 maximum budget, off road buggy preferred
I had a quick look for a dedicated forum and then thought to myself, I bet Overclockers has a thread and sure enough, it does.
Any recommendations or advice of what I should be looking at, it used to be all self builds 30 years ago but I see there is a vast selection or prebuilt, I am edging towards a 1/10 for him (and me) to enjoy

I’d got for one of the armma groms, we have a couple of granites for when we can’t be bothered to drag out the large scales and they are an absolute hoot!

It’s plenty fast and has an adjustable throttle output on the controller from 50/75/100 perfect to get used to
Nice and strong and is fun!
Another vote for the Grom as a starter you can get them with a battery and charger too so everything to get you going. Be-warned though it’s addictive and you will soon end up with a shed full of the things……. lol….

Have joined the local club, and started racing again in the 2wd off road class - I feel so slow and off the pace. I'm unsure how much is down to car setup, but it's where I'm placing most of the blame, as I can't be that bad surely!
I've bought a few parts and new tyres which will definitely help, biggest change will be swapping out the transmission from a "lay down" to a "stand up" which allows the motor to sit further back, and in turn allows the battery to be pushed further back too, hopefully this solves my traction (or lack of) issues!

yeh put on whatever tyres the fast guys are running and have a squash of someones suspension to see if its more or less how yours feels.
