RC Planes

Not yet, hopefully not too long but I do need to order the Rx and VTx to create their cut outs and cable channels before I laminate the wings. so maybe a couple weeks. I'm thinking of going 2.4 video and UHF control for this one.

I have the servos and motor on the way so should be able to cut the pockets in the wing for them tomorrow if they arrive.

I'm still wondering which OSD/controller I want, the Vector looks really good but on on the other hand APM/Pixhawk would be vrey good and I have a good bit of experience with Arducopter so Arduplane shouldn't be too dissimilar.

edit: just bought the UHF and 2.4GHz video gear, apart from the VRx as that doesn't seem to be in stock anywhere but at least having the VTx I can get the wing itself finished.

Motor and props came today, O.S. 3820 1200 spinning a 9x6 prop on 4S gives 1025W of power :D

Also worked on routing some shielded cable for the FPV camera.

Just a brief update.
Servos arrived and pockets cut in the wing. ESC programmer card came so programmed the ESC.
Today the 2.4GHz VTx and EzUHF module came and I've cut their pockets in the wing.

Tomorrow I'm cutting the channels for the cables and making up the VTx cable using individually shielded AV cable. Also going to laminate the elevons.

I'm waiting on some S/FTP Cat6 cable for the Rx cable. Once that's all done I can cover the wings and glue them to the fuselage.

Once the airframe is complete I just need to install the Eagle Tree Vector autopilot and she's ready to go.

I'm just waiting on a few bits now and my build is done. I need the Vector and air speed sensor so I can cut the wing for the pitot and then laminate, the other wing is all wired up and laminated. I'm also waiting on some tape to attach the elevons once I'm all done laminating.
Finally install and setup the vector.

Also either I'm some sort of laminating savant or it isn't as hard as I thought it would be, my first ever wing went perfectly, it's as smooth as a baby's bum and the edges are sharp, only one tiny wrinkle. I actually quite enjoyed it :)

The worst imperfection I have

At first I thought it was pretty cool but then most rodents don't deal with stress very well and it often kills them. The poor thing didn't seem to be moving much at the end, hopefully it just suffered G-LOC.

Rhys, are you working off plans for the Flanker or going freestyle?

I am indeed working off plans.. I say that loosely though as I've scaled them down considerably to make a mini Flanker first...

It's awfully tricky though as it's sooo small! I'll post some pictures up if you'd like.

Do you have the parts list for this? basically im after the details on foam frame, servos, motor etc, not really FPV stuff at this stage

Just thinking of building something later in the year to add to my 2 quadcopters and wanted a foam wing model.

Done!

I just have to do small jobs like add the end fences, velcro the hatch and stick the GPS down.

Yeah sure...

Flyingwings Venturi EVO FPV
~4m of laminanting film from Flyingwings
Hitec HS5645MG servos (x2)
O.S. OMA-3820-1200 Brushless Motor
YEP 100A ESC
APC 9X5 E prop
Eagle Tree Vector flight controller
Airspeed sensor for above
ImmersionRC EzUHF 4ch Rx
Cat6 S/FTP cable for wiring
Turnigy Low-Noise BEC
Turnigy Nano-Tech 3300mAh 4S batteries (x2)
XT60 Y connector for 2 batteries in parallel
M3 stainless bolts with nyloc nuts for the motor mount

The FPV kit for completeness:
Securitycamera2000 PZ0420 camera
ImmersionRC 700mw 2.4GHz VTx
2.4GHz skew antenna from Gav

That's most of it, there may be small things here or there.

Just the elevons left to paint now, I offered the parts up to see how it'll look...

Just noticed what your wing was, not many about from what i have seen, a mate got one a couple of weeks ago, i was following him with a mini hex, the wing is super stable even in very strong wings, he was 1000ft up with 60 mph winds at one point and the video was super smooth.. He managed to smash it today, human error.. here is the video from last week following him :)

and on this one i hit him with my Tbs caipirinha :)

Cool, I've actually seen your videos before when searching for Venturi footage on YT :)

Like you say there aren't that many around, one less now :( though there are quite a few popping up on the FPV Hub forum Venturi thread now.

I can't wait to get mine maidened! :)

Anyone know if the Hobbyking Bixler or Bixler2 are any good for entry level fpv model kits?

Im looking for something thats not going to massivly break the bank, will be an entry level back in to RC winged flight, atm I am a multirotor flyer FPV with 2 quads so want something to keep me satisfied wing wise, and something thats half durable or very durable.

Also, can you upgrade the motors/ESC's in these for more power?

Performance must be good for what it is, not lacking in anything, but again something im not going to need to spend masses on, already have tx.

The Brushless Bixler2 model is great, very easy to fly. I have one, but I strengthened the main wing spar to make it more response and have less wing flex. I use it as my relaxed sunday flyer, and it actually sees more use than anything else I have now!

Performance can be upgraded easily, but its got quite a bit of power in the bank. I usually fly mine about on less than half throttle, then just glide it about for a bit then apply a bit of power to get some altitude and glide again. I can get a good 20 minutes out of a battery that way.

I have used it to carry a mobile phone before for when I wanted some aerial pictures of the local cricket pitch, worked fine with the extra weight!

Cheers for the info, can I ask did you buy the ARF version? which comes with the motors/escs, or did you go for the kit so you can select your own motors/escs?

Im tempted to order today but just want to try and stick upgrades in straight away.

So tempted by just buying the kit for £32.63 from hobbyking, and then buying the suitable reccomended upgrade motor/escs which people advise

Also, do you have the optional flaps on yours?
