£32 - can't see it for that. Can see it for £39 though.

It surely isnt' worth the hassle when the ARF version is only an extra £17 quid! Unless you want to customise the electronics of course for more power / longer duration :)
 
I bought the ARF, as it was just a Sunday flier, and I have no need for flaps, so not using them.

I have some spare motors lying about, so might take a look at an upgrade if I get bored, but in reality, its a great little machine in ARF form, apart from the bendy wing-spar which is easily fixed.

Why do you want to upgrade it? There are many forums where people have upgraded the model, with plenty of examples of FPV installations/etc.

My ARF model has an impressive vertical on full throttle as it is!

Iv read different with the stock motor, its good but a little lagging on climbs, you can get around it by upgrading the prop, but to be honest I would rather just spend around the same amount of money and buy ESCs and turnigy motor which I know has a good reputation and the additional power.

Im probably going to order the bits this afternoon


To add to my quad collection and my FPV which I have anyway
 
I think it really depends what you are comparing it to!

To a high powered delta, yes, it's climb is slow, but to a slow-fly model it's epic :p

Having flown both, I would say it is almost perfect for the type of model it is.

jeeze whats going on with hobbykings prices, do they fluctuate or something, put something in ready order, totals £55, then £5.50 for postage

screen refresh, exactly the same products, same quantities comes to £60 + 5.50 postage

turnigy 2200kv motor
turnity plush 30amp esc
4 x servos


will get a FrSky D4R (4 channel) / 8 with PPM reciever and I should be golden

Yeh I already have a FrSky Taranis X9D 16/32 channel TX

But im going to probably get another £18 D4R 4/8 Channel FrSky rx so I dont have to swap between models, I got the D4R rx in my 250 quad, and the bigger X8R reciever in my 450.

I have a fatshark preditor v2 FPV kit with goggles

Does anyone know if this model is ok with the landing gear to take off from the ground? as much as I would like to throw launch my model, its kind of difficult I would guess when you have one hand on the model, and one on the radio, as you would have to throttle up, and also use the right stick to use the elevators, immediatly upon throwing, I generally dont have other people around, so it needs to be a one person job

Iv seen some youtube videos of people breaking the model by throw launching it and not getting it up,and it smashing to the ground.

I need to get some bullet connectors for the ESC wires, the motor already has them, and I need a prop, can anyone reccomend a decent prop for the motor/esc combo I have?
 
Setup a switch on the left hand side of the Tx for throttle hold at a throttle position to give enough to climb. Model in left hand, flip switch, throw. You then have control over the ailerons/elevator (right hand) until you get your hand on the throttle (flip switch and control throttle).

Thats how I launched my Ultron 3D plane (when not on hard ground to take off) and my F16 folding wing model.

The stock motor (2620) comes with a 7x5 prop. I'd be trying some 8x4's and 8x5's to see what they feel like. stick all the figures into WebOCalc :)

Edit: I'm assuming you fly mode 2 (throttle left?)

Thanks for the reply, yeah I fly a FrSky Taranis Plus mode 2 (throttle on left).

I can probably set up a throttle hold switch, cant gaurnentee throwing with left arm will be any good, how much effort does it need ?

I will give it a go, although im probably going to try this on the part of the field which is padded with longer grass to soften the blow if it fails and hits the deck.


Do you know if these types of models having landing gears attached to the bottom, will they take off ok from short grass from the ground if they are on landing wheels?

I want to be able to launch from hand, but have the option of ground takeoffs
 
I just throttle up, and lob it, then move my hands. Usefull to have the TX strap around the neck :D As long as the model is trimmed well, it should not be an issue!

However seeing as you are concerned about flight performance, perhaps think about a trolley launch so you leave the wheels on the ground after take-off and keep the weight down, and you can use two hands on the sticks :)

A trolley also means you can use some oversized wheels and allow travel over rougher terrain more easily!

*edit* - something like this

I saw a few of the guys using them years ago with early electric models where weight was a big issue due to the low motor efficiency/performance.

Very little, the throttle hold function (effectively just setting the throttle at a particular position) takes out the hard work. You just have to give it a nudge in the right direction. Obviously set the throttle hold position at a decent climb setting but not too fast. Shouldn't take much effort to throw even with my spaz of a left arm :D

No idea on that particular model (but I may just get one if I ever have enough dosh to get into FPV with my Tricopter!) but from my exprience for grass in particular you need thick wheels and relatively strong UC. Or it will just get caught up in the grass and either flip or rip the UC off (or both!)

For hard ground (sand/concrete etc) if the model is light, whats it's AUW?, then small wheels should be fine.

There's nothing like taxiing and take off / landing!! :D
 
The weight ofthe actual plane fully laden I mean't sorry not just the UC.

Edit: You can always put slightly bigger front UC wheels on her... pennies on HK I think.. got some here if you want to size them up.

Just noticed you're in Cardiff.. let me know if you want an extra pair of hands some time for the maiden.. :)

Since they are only £2, I guess its no harm in trying them out.

Going to go for a 7x4 prop, but not sure which manufacturer

Just noticed the kit version comes with a prop, so I will wait for an aftermarket prop.

Going to stick some 3.5mm bullets and the landing legs on order today and 2 more servos for flaps when I get that going.

Only had a bit of time this evening, so I just orientated myself a bit, opened up.

Fitted the plastic motor mount, although whilst I was snipping a hole to make pop the wires through I slightly put a crack in the mount, i have epoxied it but not sure, it will be ok for now but I will get a metal one. Found it weird that you only screw two screws in to the motor mount, but hay ho.


soft fitted the servos for the rudder and elevator, and soft fitted the servos for the ailerons.


Will continue more, need to get some servo extension leads


I ordered 5 pairs of 3.5mm bullet connectors for the ESCS, the landing gear, and 2 more servos for the flaps. Should be here tomorrow

I got turnigy prop for my Versa wing, have you got a prop balancer as these bigger props will shake your model to pieces if not balanced.

Nah I don't have a prop balancer, will have to look or see of a diy prop balancing method
