RealID to show Real Name - WoW, SC2 ...

Yes so you've said some nasty words about my online persona, although about half of what came up when I googled myself is not me, so obviously Oizu is used by more than one person. But still, you havn't been able to send any henchman around to gang rape me in my back garden have you?

He isn't on the electrol roll, so he can't be old enough to vote, but it does mean when he is Mr Jacob Lupton would be very easy to track down.

I'm also old enough to vote in the UK, I certainly won't be going into the reasons why I am not on the list though.

lol

There are quite a few reasons not to give out your real name randomly to strangers. I don't think it's necessary to spell them out, they should be common sense. Also I think most forums have warnings or rules against giving out personal identifying information.

I agree that if people don't like it don't opt into it, but Blizzard are changing something that's been accessible to all for years and putting quite a significant soft barrier in place.

Personally I wonder what the real reasoning is behind this change and wouldn't be surprised if they just want to decrease the amount of use the forums get because they're clearly unwilling to get enough moderators in to keep an eye on them. Or of course it could just be a mundane reason and part of the contract they have with Facebook.

Whilst I'm not too bothered about the wow community knowing my real name, I am concerned about account security due to my surname being on show. With my surname they can just make a new account and transfer me chars over to it if I got hacked and theres nothing I'd be able to do to stop it and reversing it would be a nightmare lol.

If however you could choose how much of your name you wanted exposing, I'd be in favour of that. James J for example on the wow boards would be perfectly fine from my point of view but more than that is abit much.

Nothing like this should be forced on a gaming community in my honest opinion.

Its not even about someone doing something in real life its about someone attacking you personally in a game.

"Your names funny, haha", "Your a girl oh my gawd, wanna shoick", "OOOH your foreign I hate ****"", "I just found your mum on facebook, INSERT YOUR MUMS NAME HERE, shes a fatty aint she". All the insults they threw before, will be ten times more effective. People can be really personal with the insults they'll love this, they can look around really quickly and simply and try lots of different things to try and get at you.

And before anyone says, stick and stones whatever, I'm not bothered what anyone says about me, but I used to be, and a lot people are. Its one of our fundamental tenants, what we say to each other effects us, even if you dont think it does.

Question... does balmoral mean anything to you?

Anyhow think I've narrowed it down to 1 of 2 addresses in Brighton.

Surprising revelation from Activision (formerly known as Blizzard)

WoW.com forums

WoW.eu forums

Huge complains, this is a change in game philosophy from the best designers (in my opinion), that is worrying. It does seem that we are heading for WoWBook or WoWVille.

So far I have cancelled all my preorders from Activision, including cataclysm and SC2, and if they do not backtrack on this one, I will cancel my WoW account.

Not bothered at all if someone knows my real name, id only be bothered if i had a really crappy name such as norman etc... :P

PM Me, i'm interested to know what address I dont live at (I don't ACTUALLY live in Brighton, but since no one will have heard of the tiny village just outside Brighton, I use Brighton) And no, i'm not the queen!

Lewes isn't a tiny village, maybe somewhere like Woodingdean. I usually tell people Brighton as well due to anyone not from the southeast having a clue about any towns down here :)

What does tracking him down prove anyway? You're far more likely to get beaten up / killed by someone you've annoyed on the bus or whatever but you don't go around covering your face just in case do you.
