You'd not be able to overtake a Lotus that's why you'd never get flashed :p

If I had a quid everytime someone didn't indicate left or right and it narked me off ever so slightly then I would be seriously rich. You'll just have to learn to drive more defensively.

One of the best ways to overtake is to maintain a normal following distance from the car in front then edge out slowly to check the coast is completely clear AND it allows the car in front to see you in their wing mirror. If it's dark give a flash of your lights maybe too. Then go for it.

See? You act first, think later. Thats why you've made two seperate replies to the same post I've made, presumably becuase you later thought of even more stuff to say.

This annoys people.

I overtake slothes doing 50 in a 60 where it is safe to make progress. My car is asthematic and needs a run up but other than that....nobody flashes me to "insult my cars power". If this is the case for my 1.6 which takes hours to overtake, then a EP3 civic surely must be driven badly to attract that kind of attention.

Franno, do you hoon up behind them, yank the car out, and swing back in close to them after passing them, or do you indicate, pass them, indicate and pull back in smoothly so as not to cause alarm?

Some wise words finally.... Guys, im not asking to be slated... I just want you to understand the situation... Im not one of those boys who "cains" it around everywhere... infact i drive most of the time under 50mph.... I just overtake cars occassionally. I don't do the classic boy racer style of Tailgating, flooring past, then cutting in about a foot infront of their car..... I do casual lazy overtakes.... But i do use a lot of throttle to get by.... Maybe people are going mad because of the sound of my engine? 8000rpm with a Pipercross Viper is quite loud....

I hate overtaking, maybe its from an experience as a kid where an XR3i or some other sporty Escort was overtaking on a single stretch of road closing in head on with my dad at a rate of knots resulting in the old man having to use the grass verge as an escape road. Anyway this means that when I do overtake I always do so in a drop a cog or two, foot to the floor type way even if the other direction is clear for miles ahead :o

...still never been flashed though

I think you need to be open the possibility that they could be right, you're young an inexperienced driving - just because you think what you're doing is fine, doesn't mean it is. Maybe go out with a more experienced driver who's opinion you value and get some feedback.

Induction kits are for the car's occupants aural pleasure, not for people outside the car. So I don't think it's that.

Its really loud outside of the car though.... I swapped cars with my friend and he overtook me the other day to show me what it was like...It was unbelievably loud.....

I've only ever been flashed once and I was driving like a tit (overtook 3 cars in a row).

To be fair there was literally a mile straight / good weather / visibility but still...

Agree with most other people, if you're getting flashed all the time you are doing it wrong :D

Plus it's a 200bhp warm hatch, don't get ahead of yourself!

A guy drove past me the other day and had full leather (I only have half leather) so I flashed him loads! That'll show him!!!!!!!!

Try removing the induction kit then? What is so attractive about having a giant air suction noise anyway? :/ Perhaps these people are thinking they're being overtaken by a cleaner riding a Henry vacuum cleaner and then they flash you when they are grossly disappointed? :D

I was overtaken by a 525i the other day. I flashed and beeped at him to reinforce my cars superiority. If I wasn't chasing 54mpg i'd have tailgated him FOR MILES.

Nah... It increases throttle response and torque over the original airbox i had fitted.....Its a cold air induction... not one of these foam cones which dont do anything....
