Really annoying...

Thats what im on about.... Thats the thing that annoys me.... I never overtake on any bends or anything...

Do you truthfully want to know why people are flashing you ? if you dont want to hear something you dont like dont bother reading my post. If you do, then read on.

I'm 25 now, but when i was younger i was like you. You're young and inexperienced and drive everywhere like 18 year olds do. It annoys you when you come accross a driver that wants to drive slower than you do.

Now when i was your age, when i came across a driver that was driving slower than i was, first thing that comes into your mind, is to overtake them so you can carry on driving at the speed you want. But you've admitted this yourself, your overtakes are pointless.

Why are they pointless ? because people have caught up with you and had a go. The only overtake worth doing, is one that significantly advances your journey time. Take your last post for example, your overtook somebody, but you were obviously very close to your house, so much so, that it only got you there less than a minute sooner. If it had been more than a minute, you'd have been tucked up inside your house with a cup of tea by the time they got past your house.

When you go to overtake, think not "why are they going so slow", but think "what can you gain by overtaking". If there is a set of traffic lights at the bottom of the road, dont bother. You're not going to get anywhere any quicker by overtaking. This then avoids them cathing up with you flashing you and having a go. Similarly if your minutes away from home, dont bother overtaking as its not going to get you there any quicker.

The reason why people are getting annoyed, is because your overtakes are pointless, as they dont get you anywhere any quicker. Also, if people are catching back up with you, your overtake has only managed to do 1 thing - put you one car further up the que of traffic. So que jumping. Which is something british people by their nature dont like.

Trouble is, your 18 and driving the boy racers favourite - the civic type R. Your insurance is high for a reason, 18 year olds like you and i drive like nutters. Trouble is, it will take you to prang your pride and joy for you to slow down and re think your attitude

not that i was any different though :)

Good advice there. An overtake always adds risk so unless there is a significant gain to be made its rarely worth it. The time for having fun and playing in VTEC bouncing off your limiter is on an open road.

P.S - I also couldnt give a crap about "fox's posting style"

So, why pounce on it and lob insults about his "life" if it does not bother you?

Anyway, enough of defending Fox, hes more than capable of doing it himself!

Oh, and BTW, chav is not about what you drive, its about HOW you drive, and clearly if you are upsetting enough people to warrent making a thread, then you are probably driving like a chav...

I get flashed at in the CTR now and again but not when overtaking. It's usually from oncoming cars on a B road. They are mid corner, flashing their lights and waving their arms while im casually dropping gears and taking the corner within the road markings and the speed limit.

It's weird really. Who is more dangerous? The flappy armed light flasher or the guy making legal progress in his fast car? Meh, I have no time for these people. These is do-gooding uneducated people need a smack in the face with common sense.

Quoted for posterity.

:D

:D I freely admit it, just a shame most people don't. :)

I mean if you look at some of the threads I've created, and one of the links in my sig, you'll notice I've not been the smartest of people over my driving years. I would like to say I've improved since my last accident, but, I can't as I haven't driven since then. It did make me realise though just how much of an idiot I have been and lately in general I've become relaxed about most goings on, so come Jan that should show in my driving style. :)

exactly

Young lads drive like nutters, untill they have an accident or two. Or in my case three.

If it is as regular as you suggest it is then look at the reasons why...YOU are the problem and though I suspect we have all had the odd person flash us when we overtake them it's no more regular than perhaps once every 3 months or maybe even less.

I suspect the toolness in your driving is quite high...

I tend to agree that most young drivers (not just lads) drive like nutters. I certainly did things that I'd never do now. I never did anything that I'd consider to be dangerous, but I did drive like a complete **** at times. Never had an accident, but did still grow out of it.

Not quote what I meant. I mean my first accident (which is in my sig) did slow me down, but only until I'd learnt the car I was driving. Prior to that I just hooned it everywhere, which is why, 6 months after passing I wrecked it (and almost myself). Now days though (as in last 2 cars) I'll drive a car sensibly and slowly work out what it can/can't do, so I can drive sensibly and then open it up when it's safe to do so.

The thing I took from my second accident was to ignore people that make stupid overtakes, and not to aggravate them...after all that's what lead to the accident.

I love overtaking people and then they get ****y at me. I just think, mate, if you're going to go slow as ****, then what are you doing on the road? blocking it up? Leaving about half an hour earlier than you need to and expecting everyone else to do the same?
I just love to put my foot down and go hoofing past them, then because they're boring and I drive a fast car I must be a chav instantly, or so the daily mail told them and they'll flash and beep.

It only really happens in the MR2, I think its because it's loud, modified and fast, I really need a decent daily i'm starting to go deaf.

I wonder where he has gone :(

Stuff like this really makes it look like your looking for an argument
(I've only read the first page and last page of this thread btw lol)

I drive a ridiculously underpowered 106. And in all my time i've been driving it, (3 years) i've probably only ever overtaken 20 cars or so, on A roads and B roads. I've only ever overtaken when it has been safe to do so. Which requires a, a lot of road in front, and b, the person in front not to be going very fast, i.e 30, 40, 50.

Even overtaking in my silly little toy car, with no power whatsoever, have i ever been flashed or beeped at while overtaking.

although granted I dont have that much experience of doing it often.

from the start of the thread I got nasty hint of "I've got a EP3 Type R and I own the road "

Just remember, you have a nice car with plenty of power.

Take it steady, appreciate its looks and handling there's no need to overtake everything on the road (which it sounds like your doing, and dangerously)

I have heaps of fun in my 125'ish hp Diesel 306, most of its in the twistys and very rarely above 60mph, I only see the need for overtaking when someone is stopping me from getting to work on time and I've never been flashed by anyone!

stop peeing people off and start driving more sensibly ;)
