Recommend me some trance?

Ahh, sorry i misunderstood!

First off it's worth saying i like to mix tracks as soon as possible to keep the energy going - usually with about 2:30 left to play. Beatmatching is done entirely with headphones on, then headphones just through 1 ear for the start of the transition and when i'm confident the tracks aren't going to fall out of time i lose the headphones and concentrate on the mix.

Since getting the CDJs i've very quickly learnt that you need to be pretty sure of your next 2 or 3 track as well as the one you are about to play. Nothing worse than hearing a track come near its end when you've still not chosen the next one!! I usually just pick out 4 or 5 CDs i'm likely to play from my big cases then pick from then when the time is right and add to the pile when i get the time.

Lastly - bass switches, love 'em :D

Hmmm... it's a nice track, but doesn't really have any memorable element, apart from the different take on the build up, just before the break.

Problem is, I don't find the main melody strong enough to carry the track, and the main break is kinda lacklustre as a result.

Needs remix that is more riff orientated with more energy, and I'd be a happy chappy.

This is exactly my opinion. I nearly didn't include it in the list, it's not really something i'd play very often.

For you fans of tech-trance...

Aha Pete mate....

Been listening to your first recorded mix with your new CDJ's (File name is ''Maskell - First recorded mix with new CDJs'' - must be quite a few weeks old now.

Was just wondering what the 1st track is?! I Love it! But I cant for the life of me think who it is :(

Thanks mate :)

OneWorld - Lingus

Quality track, i'll stick it in the box for you this evening dude ;)

I think given time he will produce some allright stuff.I've just started my Melbourne remix for the Discover competition. Nicest way to ease my way into producing with proper remix parts.

You probably replied on the MH forums, but what do you think of the Lee Haslam remix of melbourne? I was a little surprised at the criticism, i've loved nearly all his productions since he jumped from hard house to trance.

What producing software are you using? Have you had any kind of training or just learning by doing?

Was pretty underwhelmed when i heard it on TATW this morning, and the youtube video has just confirmed that. Breaking ties i thought was pretty poor as well.

Siren of the sea and Miracle are leagues ahead imo

To be honest whenever i find out any new above & beyond track is being released I automatically start bracing myself for the onslaught it gets on radio shows and livesets. By the time it's been out a week i can't stand it - even if i liked it originally

(Sorry ROSSI, nothing personal :p)

I don't know about anyone else but i have been very disappointed by the recent crop of vocal tracks, Ferry, Armin, JOC, Oceanlab. They are all pretty generic and interchangeable and do little for me, so i was pleased to stumble across this gem last night. Finally a decent vocal track for January!

Gabriel Lukosz feat Rachele Warner - Last One Out

All the remixes on this release i thought were superb, with the original probably being my favourite. I couldn't find the original on youtube so here is the, also very good, Myon & Shane 54 remix

Just recorded a new mix. I've not listened back yet but i'm not convinced it'll be as good as i hope. A couple of the mixes in the second half went waywards and in trying to jump up and down through styles i'm concerned it'll sound a bit too mish mashed. Here is the tracklist anyway

01 - Indecent Noise - Back Stabber (Vojt van Twistigen)
02 - Dave Schiemann - Overload (Re-Ward)
03 - Rank1 - LED There be light (LaserLight)
04 - TiDi - Is it Cold? (Re-Ward)
05 - Marcel Woods - Can't Sleep
06 - George Acosta - War of Hearts (Roy Gates)
07 - Paul Webster - Corruption (Mac & Taylor)
08 - Reconceal - When i find you (Marcos)
09 - Arctic Moon & Truewave - On Silver Wings (Marcos)
10 - Hodel & Hornblad - Hydrogren (Michael Angelo)
11 - Tiddey - Taylla (Paul Miller)
12 - Adam Nickey - Slider (Sean Tyas)
13 - Vicky Devine - Facing the Truth (Dan Powers)
14 - Thrillseekers - City of angels (Genix)
15 - Claudi Cazacu - Earproof
16 - Sean Tyas - Melbourne (Lee Haslam)
17 - Dazzle - Relativity
18 - Roland & Wright - Mysterious Movement (Pierre Pienaar)
19 - Andy Mac - Solar Storm
20 - Neal Scarborough - Panama
21 - Simon Patterson vs. Veracoche - Carte Smack (F1D0)
22 - Will Atkinson - Enough is Enough (Mac & Taylor)
23 - Paul Webster - Cut Off (Will Atkinson)

My word there is some brilliant trance around at the minute, i really enjoyed recording this

Maskell - Action at a Distance

Size: 130mb
Date: February 2009
Genre: Trance
Equipment: 2 x CDj200, Numark DM2050

01 - Antidote - Fantastic (EBM)
02 - DJ Fire - Transatlantic (Antidote)
03 - Gabriel Lukosz - Last One Out (Myon & Shane54)
04 - Galen Behr & Leon Bolier - Acapulco
05 - Ernesto & Bastian - Laserbrain
06 - Roger Shah pres. Savannah - Body Lotion (Inspiration)
07 - Jo Micali - Euphoria (original)
08 - Andy Blueman - Sea Tides
09 - Re:Locate feat. Menno de Jong - Spirit (Paul Miller)
10 - Avernus - Never Lose (Daniel Loubscher)
11 - Michael Vosch - Beautiful Dream
12 - Kuffdam & Plant - No way out

After putting some thought into my mixing 'style' I've realised in places i've tried to be a little too adventurous. I like to mix early in the track in a bid to carry energy but I'm really not good enough to pull it off at this stage and it just sounds like a bit of a mess. So this latest mix I've tried to slow it down a little and aim for slightly smoother transitions... hopefully it's an improvement.

Looks like a solid track list Grrrrr, Kuffdam - Network is a great new album worth listening to :)

I have to say i was a bit unsure about the album having heard 'burning up' which i think is very poor. After having had a quick listen through some of the tracks though it does sound quite promising

Kuffdam & Plant - Maziko, now there is a tune

you're not wrong there, it's like 1999 all over ;) infact theres not much i don't like at the moment, loads of euphoric/uplifting stuff about too, which i'm really liking, i'm currently enjoying Ferrys new offering, we're all made of love - super8 & tab mix, more melodic than his normal stuff. Also, Daniel Kandi's mix of Kiholm - fragile, been out a while though that one.

Yeah, there is loads of great uplifting and energetic tracks around, just as many quality tech trance tracks, some solid prog trance but unfortunately a big pile of terrible vocal tracks as well including 'Made of Love' which i can't stand... (sorry!)

Will check out that DK track :)

I think a lot of the Anjuna stuff is hit or miss, i go through phases of finding it really frustrating because every release seems the same as the last. But like i said there are also some cracking tracks. I think Discover is probably my favourite label, high tempo, energetic and 'banging'!

With regards vocal trance i don't dislike it all, 'The last Time' was indeed a brilliant track. I just think a lot of the recent releases are very samey, unoriginal and uninspiring. Ferry Corsten, JOC, Armin, Titonal, Andy Moor, I can't stand any of their recent vocal tracks. Gabriel Lukosz - Last One Out (Myon & Shane54) from my mix though i'm a big fan of

I feel i should mention Simon Patterson now, without a doubt he is the producer of the moment, everything he touches turns to gold and has done for many years now. His new track Thump is superb and his remix of Sam Sharp - Roundabout is even better. I saw him DJ last week and he was out of this world

Yeah i really like some of Andy Duguid's work and Wasted is brilliant. White Sands (vocal and beatless) and Hypocrisy (melodic trance) are my favourites though.

Here is an outstanding vocal track from a couple of years ago; George Acosta - War of Hearts (Vocal Mix). Try and get hold of it

For possibly the first time ever I know almost every track in your mix Kr00t0n, it's normally stuff i've not heard before :)

Nice one for sticking Mr. Sam in there, i can't get enough of the track but i struggle to fit it in along side trance when i'm mixing.

Indecent Noise, this guy is undoubtedly the best thing to happen to trance lately. His sets are superb, bags of energy and perfectly mixed and his productions are just as good. This tune will be massive:

Icicle - Eudaimonia (Indecent Noise Remix) [Excessive Pressure]

1.MK-S - Epiphany (Activa Rework)
2.Redstar - Awakening (Original Mix)

5.Tiddey - Taylla (Tom Colontonio Remix)
