Recommend me some trance?

Nope, it's all programmed in ableton and took me the best part of a day in total!

If you look at the plastic angel track fro example the red lines show the low frequency volume. I basically drew those red lines for the lows, hi's and track volume for every track. It takes bloody ages!!

Thanks Olly, really appreciate the detailed reply.

I know the basics of harmonic mixing but i've never looked into implementing it, i think it's definitely something worth looking into more now though. Something i try to avoid when i'm mixing is mixing out of tracks right at the end and into tracks just using the introduction. Doing this i find makes the listener wait for next track rather than enjoy listening to the next track coming in, if that makes sense. But in doing this it makes the transitions much more complicated than using the simple beats of an intro/outro. I certainly think a 'busy' mix that keeps the flow is better than a perfect mix that doesn't

Techier stuff is definitely my strong point, well it's my favourite anyway. I tried to make this mix a touch more 'accessible' because not everyone is quite so keen on the bosh bosh bosh music i usually play. I've been meaning to do an all out bosh mix for a while now though so i guess that's next on the list!

EDIT\\ You mention the importance of track selection and flow, what did you think of mine?

Mix) Black Hole

16. Albert Vorne - Formentera What (Gareth Emery Remix)

These are probably the only 2 tracks that would make my personal top 20. I'm hoping to record a top 20 of 2007 mix sometime soon so i'll put up my tracklist when i do

I had a go on Smiley Man's decks over Christmas and i was quite surprised at how good i was. I'm sure given my own decks and a bit of practise i'd be better than Jules in no time :p

Oh and i'm current recording my 2007 mix in Ableton, it was a nightmare whittling it down to 50 tracks! Lots of harmonic mixing going on you'll be pleased to hear OMS

Weirdly, Grrrrr and I only share 1 fav track from last year (Formentera What), and one of his (Megashira) is my number 3 worst track of 2007 after Anthem and Break My Fall :p

I knew when i posted that list that you'd have something to say about that track :p

I mostly based list on tracks that i had a particular fondness for, either hearing out or whoring to death at home even if it meant i was sick of them now. I also decided not to include house or hard house. I found it much harder choosing the tracks and putting them in order than actually mixing them. Did you do yours live or in ableton? Have you got a tracklist?

I guess since it was deleted overnight i can't say. Kind of reminds me of the government, if you've not got a good enough answer to a question, get rid of the question

Massive trance fan here although i prefer the harder, techier, more energetic side of the genre. Think along the lines of Eddie Halliwell, John O'Callaghan, Brian Kearney, Marcel Woods etc. There seems to have been quite an abundance of decent tracks from the past couple of months which bodes well for the rest of 2007!

I'm really looking forward to hearing more from a few artists that are relatively new to me. Maarten de Jong produces some horribly boshy trance - i love it and can't wait to hear more. Ali Wilson produces kind of a blend of trance and techno that's always very energetic. Wardt who is one of Sander van Doorn's prodigies is producing some good stuff. Mark Sherry is very much at the front of current tech trance and last year was a superb year for Re:Locate, i love his productions and he was equally as impressive when i saw him DJ.

Andy - I think we should keep this thread alive the last one has died a bit with the constant whinging about copyright issues

I didn't realise it was out yet? I was thoroughly unimpressed by his latest track 'The Bass' though, simply put it's boring although the Wardt remix is somewhat better.
