The "2 tyre rule" came in to stop a driver running on the harder compound all race and not stopping. Now that the tyres last all of 10 laps, this would make things exciting.

The problem is that Im sure by the end of the season, there will be teams who will easily have been able to complete race distances on one set of (hard) tyres (on particular circuits)
The requirements to start on your qualifying tyres and then use both compounds should be dropped. It would need a few more tyres allocated, as EVH said, and I think that's the sticking point.

Im pretty sure this was a typo, but just in case others get confused - this isnt quite the rule.
The tyres you start the race on /qualifying tyres count as one compound used (ie as long as they change types during that pitstop, only one pitstop is required by the rules).
