Red Bull issue, F1 rules in general?

The "2 tyre rule" came in to stop a driver running on the harder compound all race and not stopping. Now that the tyres last all of 10 laps, this would make things exciting.

The requirements to start on your qualifying tyres and then use both compounds should be dropped. It would need a few more tyres allocated, as EVH said, and I think that's the sticking point.

Im pretty sure this was a typo, but just in case others get confused - this isnt quite the rule.

The tyres you start the race on /qualifying tyres count as one compound used (ie as long as they change types during that pitstop, only one pitstop is required by the rules).

I expect so - they got used to them this way in the last two seasons. This is no different.
 
i think team orders should be allowed.

its a team sport and the drivers are employed by the team so they should do what is in the best interest of the team.

telling one driver not to overtake another to finish in formation is the same as a football team winning 3-0 and playing out the rest of the game with possesion. this isnt banned or is there uproar about it.

Actually it's like two football teams finding out the result of the other match in their group and playing for a result that gets them both through. This used to happen until the governing bodies changed the competitions so that the last matches in each group were played simultaneously.

Nope.

What you suggest is more like RBR and Mercedes agreeing not to overtake each other at the end of the race to guarantee the points.
 
yep, two tyre compound rule needs dropping. its a terriable rule. it wrecks tactics.

2 stop on hards and set target pace.
3 stop on softs and go bulls out.
this very much depends on balancing the compounds and tracks, but if we could get those good old times back, it would be brilliant. it wouldn't happen on every single track, it never did.

should also dictate what fuel they have to have, then unrestrict engine development. then they could go green and develop power and efficiency by dropping the fuel load by say 5% every couple of years.

they hold about 50gallons atm don't they?

Imagine a 2 stop hard race vs a 5 stop soft face. Go slow and preserve tyres or go balls deep and stop more often. Obviously, this would mean also changing tyre allocations etc.

The two tyre rule came in to ensure that teams used both sets of tyres. Bridgestone got fed up carting a load of tyres to circuits that were never used.

By the end of the Bridgestone era most races could have been completed on a single set of tyres, regardless of whether they were hards or softs. The racing (or total lack of it) would have been even more boring without the pitstop required to change compounds.
 
I personally hate team orders, nothing more than match fixing, in any other sport it would be banned.

I'm actually glad vettal did what he did, and in the end those few extra points he got will probably be the difference between winning and losing the championship... see if rb are still whingeing then.

Vettel didn't win championships on his own. the car, the team (pit crew, engineers...), and even his teammate taking points from rivals all played very important role, in fact I would argue they play a bigger role and that the driver can be more easily replaced in the equation. There are plenty of fast drivers out there, just look at feeder series like GP2 or World Series by Renault just to name a couple.

the thing that really bothers me is these crap Pirelli tires, we are left watching cars coast at 80% pace around the track to preserve these pieces of garbage. what is even funnier is that Le Mans cars go 100% full pace for 24hrs :eek:

It is nice to see a bit of personality in the sport. It makes it more interesting, rather than seeing 20 odd faceless cars competing.

People like Senna & Schuey are famous for how they were off the track as well as on it. Vettel is going to end up climbing into that bracket if he can continue like this :)
 
Definitely, thats great that he has come out and done that.

In contrast, I think the main issue Webber had with the whole situation is he was told to do something and did it, which gave vettel an advantage and allowed him an easier pass - im certain had both cars and drivers been left to their own devices it would have been a different story ;)
 
If he disobeys team orders again they should disipline him. Unless of course he's bigger than the team?

Clearly he is if he can do what he wants. Horner and co should shut up and just call it Vettel Racing.
 
F1 is a team sport. If your team gives you an order then you should obey it or else what's the point in being in the team ? No one man should be bigger than the team. Vettel is employed to drive the car. Christian Horner is employed to make team decisions. The pit crew have their jobs, the engineers theirs etc. The team benefits when all the components work together. Vettel got away with it last time. Maybe next time he'll take out Webber and himself in a selfish bid to win against team orders. Vettel could learn a lot from Rosberg, who showed great maturity when facing the same team orders.

If he wins his 4th WDC by less than 7 points the teams views on him winning in Malaysia will change. Well, the teams public views on it at least, I'm fairly certain that they aren't in the least bit annoyed about it anyway. The fastest and triple WDC golden boy driver winning a race and only really annoying the 2nd tier driver who is probably going to retire anyway, whats there to be upset about?

Wrong. He's employed to drive the car. Winning is a bonus. If what you said was correct then what is the second driver employed for in every team ? Also, every time he doesn't win he'd be breaking his contract. Please, think before you post.
 
just read the interview with vettel on autosport, what a vile little character he is! I get the impression from that interview he decided based on history that he was going to do mark over because he felt mark didnt deserve the win based on past actions. He comes across a bit deluded by his own importance.

Well his engineers, horner and newey didn't look or sound too pleased at being ignored. I'm sure they all would rather want him to win, but they still have to expect him and demand him to do what he's told.

It's done now, I'm more interested to see Vettels attitude and fallout with the team when the car isn't in the top 2 on the grid.
