Red Dead Redemption 2 (PS4, Xbox and PC Hopefully)

Wow didn't even know you could do this, awesome.

Would you be able to test it out and see what I'm doing wrong please? :p Because it certainly doesn't work for me on the PS4.

In the gunsmith I equip the shotgun to my shoulder and the rifle to my back. I walk out and they're there, but as soon as you start riding for a bit or start a mission, they'll change to something else entirely.

Outfits is rite broken too. I've got on my horse summer and winter outfits, and one I use with a full face mask when I'm being bad. But you can't wear the mask in camp, so it creates a second custom outfit (custom outfit without mask) and boots out either summer or winter outfit.

Just had a quick go took ages installing been years since I had a console bought the xbox one x as it's the best performing platform for the game

I do have lg oled 4k tv but using on 27inch 1080p pc monitor because it's just more comfortable seating etc

Can really tell it's 30fps not very smooth when used to pc would have been nice if 1080p ran at 60fps

Played another couple of hours and I'm really struggling to warm to it. It's still just a walking simulator, go to marker on the map, watch cut scene, ride somewhere with someone and listen to a load of dialogue, watch some more cutscenes, do some quicktime events (saloon brawl), watch another cutscene, mission complete, repeat.

Thought I'd go off piste and hunted some deer on the way back to camp after the thrilling non-mission to hunt a bear. By the time I'd ridden back to camp (5-10 minutes) the deer was rotting already. It's like the game has been intentionally designed to be a chore.

Where's the actual gameplay? Is this still just a very drawn out tutorial and the actual game opens up at some point? I mean it looks wonderful and the world is great but what is the core gameplay loop here? I can't seem to find it :/

Is it just following the story through the cutscenes? I didn't play RDR1 so don't know if that is what the game is all about..

Whilst I think you're being a little harsh on it, I agree with the idea that the core gameplay isn't up to much. I read an interesting review that summed it up well. It said something like 'you can tell the game was in development for 7 years by its incredibly detailed world, but also some elements of its gameplay that seem 7 years old' (that is massively paraphrased BTW)

I don't think it's a bad game, don't get me wrong. But it doesn't feel like I'm getting entertainment bang for buck with the time I'm having to put into it. I just don't really get on with games that demand that sort of investment these days.

I'll keep playing through it, but I'm going to have to break it up with some light entertainment.

Light entertainment?

Wot. Like the X Factor, Strictly or the Apprentice?

Not denigrating - it's what the other half does whilst I'm roaming around in a rather good rendition of how America used to be.

People moaning it's too slow? Jeesus. Take yourself back to the day it's actually set in.

Sit back. Relax. Soak it up. It's not a frag fest.

I just cant believe how this is actually a game, the variety and the world is just insane - Just coming across folk and they know who I am, or heard about actions I have done previous, just meeting people feels so authentic, and different each time. I never feel like I am going to get a generic 'hello' response

The slowness of this gripping me so much, that I am getting invested in this game like I haven't any others.

It lacks the real depth of levelling progression and variation in skills and playstyle of something like Skyrim; and the more instant gratification of GTA V.

The Witcher 3 had a better story but was a more constrained (and relatively lifeless) world.

RDR 2 is almost too perfect in its genre and so expansive it almost loses its enjoyment by crossing into a simulation territory, especially if you are over playing it.

It feels too close to what should be an MMORPG but without the MMO bit.

Once online launches though it will offer the welcome distraction and variation needed including the real-time in-game social element.
