Red Dead Redemption 2 (PS4, Xbox and PC Hopefully)

50 to 60 hrs in and Chapter 4. Still sussing things out and discovering little gameplay elements.

Playing entire time in first person and found turning up sensitivity and acceleration to max with deadzone on zero has improved the feel. There are some clunky aspects to it which could be improved, but yeah its a 8 to 9 out of 10 for me so far. I wonder when they are going to patch/refine it and also improve the HDR.

Wonder if this will ever get a pro patch and hdr patch?! R* have gone down in my estimation after RDR2. The quality from other devs at release is much better eg. Proper hdr, quality CB implementation, and rock solid performance. Not to mention controls and speed of day/night cycles.

They’ve definitely lived off their reputation on this one imo.

Hoping for a patch and will start it again once hdr actually works. No excuse for this unless it’s something that technically can’t be implemented.

I wonder if it has something to do with the development of the game? This one probably started production way before HDR was even a thing and maybe implementing it later causes issues? Though that said they shouldn't have tried to fake it and other games have added HDR in a patch I think. I.e. Witcher 3

Just finished chapter 5 and not sure what any moaning was about, didn't drag for me at all other than Dutch's character becoming increasingly annoying but I think that's kind of the point.

Not holding out any hope of an HDR fix as R* will likely put all effort into the online since that will be a huge cash cow for them for years to come.

Glad you said that. I'm 2 missions in on chapter 4 and 128 hours in total doing every side mission available.

I've seriously never had so much fun going off the beaten track in a game, ever.

Poker, Blackjack , fishing, hunting, helping out strangers in need.

The main story is a side quest to me.

And HDR is just a stupid gimmick - If I buy a 4k movie to watch on the main home cinema system I always switch it off (Sony 65XE9305)

Makes everything way too dark - I like 1000 nit torch mode.

I must admit I haven't had a game hook me as much as this for years. I didn't pre order it as I wasn't sure it was going to be my type of game, bought it about a week or so after release and haven't really gone a day without playing it.

I am at the end now, last part of chapter 6

Arthur has just died on the top of the cliff. I haven't played the original RDR so was hoping that he would kill Micah before the end but guess Micah is in the original?

Also the final ride back to camp and when they killed my horse was a bit of a tearful moment, the ride back with the music and the comments from various NPC was amazing I thought

I couldn't give 2 hoots about HDR, etc etc. Yes the horse controls are a little clunky at times, but for me the whole story and the enormity of this game are amazing.

Gavin, has anyone seen Gavin? English fellow.....

Oh, and also, I have never played the original RDR. Is it still worth getting (would be for Xbox)?

Definitely, it follows on from this game in terms of story & characters. It'll feel a bit old but it actually looks surprisingly decent, especially on XB1X.

I'd say play RDR2 first, as it's a prequel

Edit: ignore me, I just saw your reply on the last page

That makes sense, but If I really wanted to play RDR I would play that first before RDR2, yeah the story would flow better, but coming from RDR2 back to a 10 year old game might make it feel a bit disappointing, even if the graphics have been slightly improved on the latest consoles.

Agree with getting hooked, this game is top notch and I can't put it down.

It's been years since I've been this interested in a game.

5.6GB patch today on PS4, wonder if it's just RDR Online or if there are any other fixes/additions. Can't see any info about the update on the Rockstar site at the moment.
