Red Dead Redemption 2

Mine worked from launch without a hitch but following the patch install from last night I had my first CTD this evening. Then another 20 mins later just as I was about to finish a mission.

Turned it off and played COD instead.

Might wait a few more days for the next patch as it’s clearly still a bit broken.

Ok, now I've seen it, I can't unsee, TAA does indeed hugely blur everything and the performance boost may not be worth it. The problem is, with MSAA at 2x everything shimmers, with x4/8 it's still the same shimmering. So, sticking with x2, I'll need to drop a couple of settings down for consistent FPS like I was getting with TAA :(

Anyone know the best settings for an RTX 2080. All I see is TI ones.

At 1440p, I imagine you'll get away with the same settings I have, just crank down reflections to high not ultra and have water set to medium. And TAA, MSAA is a killer.

not sure how accurate this is but may help

I don't mean to sound like a smarsmartass, but no surprise AA tanks performance. Surprised about some of the others being so high. I've finished the previous game I was playing so I can make a start on this, I've got a 1080 and I'm playing at 1080p. I've got most settings to high, although i think I've got textures on ultra. Is the sharpening option, fully left is off or middle is off?

Offset the blur with some sharpness within the Nvidia game filter thing. Basically press ALT F3 and add filters from there.

I added sharpness and it's a lot better.

My missus and I have a persistent posse, what happens is that you automatically are put into the posse but not into the same group within the posse, if that makes sense, if you are familiar with MMOs, think of it as being in the same server and guild automatically but not in the same party. Bit like how you can be in an MMO guild of 200 players but only in the same party as half a dozen of them. So you still have to send out an invite, but only one invite instead of 2 invites like in a temporary posse (1 to join the session and a 2nd to join the posse)

thanks

TAA has a sharpness bar in the game settings, maxing this bar should remove all blur.

Ahhhh.....I've not messed much with the settings but I was secretly disappointed with the graphics because everything in the distance seemed to be really blurry! Going to try what you suggested above tonight and see if it improves the situation. It almost looks "cartoony" with the blur on, scenery in the distance looked like a backdrop painting like from old films because it was so blurry and lacking detail - I just assumed that was the way R* intended....

My god the controls in this game are abysmal. So clunky and laggy.

And full-screen mode isn't real working full screen, leading to stutters. Epic fail developers.

If you check my picture above, that is TAA with maxed TAA sharpness, keep in mind it is only 1080p as I only have a 1070TI. You have to unlock the advanced settings where you can change Vulkan to DX12, that part.

I'm getting occasional sudden pauses regardless of how low or high I set it, Win10 on one SSD and the game is on another SSD

I'm running a resolution of 2560X1440 with refresh rate at 144Hz with G-Synch and GTX1080,
It runs fine even set to ultra, no stuttering but occasional 6 second lock ups and then the game runs fine again for a while,it seemed worse setting it on Vulcan

I'm not sure if the antivirus did an update (Avast) or if the game updates solved it, but no longer I need to disable the shields before starting a game.
Also I've got relatively soon a CTD once I've switched from Vulkan to DX12, so perhaps staying with Vulkan is better.

For the TAA, try to set the sharpening bar around the middle of that slide, perhaps a bit to the left. I think it helped with the blurriness in the distance.

What CPU do you have? Apparently some Intel chips have some issues like that.
