Red Dead Redemption 2

I skipped into the video and the first thing I heard was @ 8:25 of him describing Long Shadows as shadows seen in the distance - face palm.

This is a setting also seen in GTA V which alters shadows according to the sunrise/sunset.

Yea, I would NOT advise people to follow the settings video posted above. It's not a good representation of how to squeeze performance out of the game.

Thanks will be using testing those settings :)

Seems the advice given in that youtube might not be the best though, incase you missed agnes post.

@agnes Would you mind posting a screeny of yours and what your system is ?

So without having a £1200 GPU what is the best way? Pray tell

I was referring to the shadow setting discussed, not ALL settings, sorry. I wasn't clear on that.

I'm getting a lot of hate at the moment for having an expensive PC in this thread, so I won't repeat as it seems having a high spec PC alienates me from everyone else without said PC specs lol (take this comment with a pinch of salt everyone, tongue in cheek remarks from me)

Ah right cool, ta - thought you meant all the settings then! haha

Hell no haha, my wife is using pretty much the exact same settings on her 1080ti from that vid. It's a great recap, it's just the long shadows face slap thing haha.

I wouldn’t take a lot of notice TBH.

Nothing wrong with a high spec PC. I’m just using the balanced slider in the settings and am currently just two notches away from max settings @ 4K.

Will move it up to one notch away from max tonight and see how I get on with that.

Silky smooth currently. :D

Ohh yeah, I saw the comment about shadows over at youtube as well, and I actually have that setting on. And me personally not bothered what you have for PC specs, everyone have different PC's, some better, some worse and most in between everything ! :p

On another note, is the FOV slider working for you ?? I moved it from minimum to max and no difference in the game ?

Ahem, that link though, takes me to page 15 (on standard forum page settings) and all you say there is asking if there been any word about when the preload happening ? :p But I am guessing you mean this post about your spec ? (Which for me is on page 71 :p ) And thanks for the link !

I have a high spec pc as well fella.. it’s a hobby right and if we want to invest in that then that’s on us so wouldn’t worry about it. I must say though there isn’t that much different on ultra to high.. I always just slam everything on ultra but not sure you need too on this game..

This is a good article explaining the settings if ya interested

Cheers mate, that's the post haha. I have extended post counts turned on. As for FOV, works for me, first person is still WAY too restricted in terms of FOV at max, but 3rd person works perfectly fine.

Ooooooo, will have a gander after my next meeting. And yea, this is my main hobby, salaries are heavily different here in San Francisco for tech work compared to London and hardware is generally cheaper. So I get to pour more money into my PC. It's nice having a 'top 1%' PC (I use that term LOOSELY as it's just the GPU that's the power house, everything else is standard) as I've always had a fairly standard mid-high spec PC. I mean, I upgraded from a i5 3570k CPU to the 8700k, I was over the moon lol.

No doubt when I move back to Europe at some point, being able to binge on the latest GPU will not be possible haha, and when/if we have children, I think both of our PC's will quickly become the last thing we invest in haha. But for now, basking in it and loving having the power.

San Fran.. nice! Lovely part of the world. Work in IT myself as well, I have a 9900k and 2080ti under water and oc. Love tinkering more with the build than playing the games but to be fair I’m loving this one!

Agreed with others, don't take any notice :p they are just jealous.

Wouldnt mind your settings though to tune and put the details where required. I have a mix of mostly high at the minute but without testing every setting and looking at the differences its hard to say other than jokers video. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for that link, just been reading through what they come to conclusions for now and be making some changes myself. Will be keeping an eye on it when they can fill out the rest of the settings !

You can find his settings here, incase you not happen to have extended post count turned on as well. Agnes RDR2 Graphic Settings
