Red Dwarf

i hope they recapture the old spirit of red dwarf, the last series where they brought back kochanski i felt was below par compared to the classics before it. The story was a bit disjointed and i kinda felt they just wanted to exploit the large fanbase built up from (what i refer to as) the classic series.

best episode was the armagedon virus (?) when they were in the western :D

edit: gunman of the apocolypse :D

i've gotta get me a couple of litres of that!

anyway, i love Red Dwarf. i once had a Dwarf marathon with my friend who owns all the seasons on DVD.

we watched the lot with no pause lasting more than 1 hour.

:D :D :D :D

I really enjoyed season 8.

My best season has to be six, with all of the space core directives :D

"Any officer caught sniffing the saddle of the exercise bicycle in the women's gym will be discharged without trial."

lol.

Yeah, the last couple of series lost a little bit of their charm because of the BBC's much larger budget for Red Dwarf... certainly didn't make it crap, but you didn't get that sense of.... actually I'm not sure what it is... just a sense of watching a classic, low budget, high entertainment British comedy that Red Dwarf was back in the early series.
.
the budget was no higher for 7/8 compared to 5/6, in one of the books it has an interview with Rob Grant (or Doug Naylor, i forget which one stayed and which one left) and he says that they expressed an utter disbelief that they didn't have a greater budget. It's just cheaper and less time consuming to do computer graphics so that's what they did, and it wrecked it :/

I'm getting bad vibes from all this, I think it will just be excuse to string together as many throw back Red Dwarf references as they can in one hour wrapped around a paper thin or non existant plot. I dread to think how many times Lister's curry addiction will be mentioned in one form or another. Really hope I'm wrong and hope they write a proper story, but it screams cash in to me.

Didn't they destroy the ship in the last episode? I'm not sure that making more Red Dwarf is a good idea, it went totally downhill after season 6, so anything new would have to be much better than the last two seasons at least.

Yeah, its time has past. Remakes of older shows rarely end up any good. I guess Dr Who was the exception.

If they are going to bring back Red Dwarf they should do a tongue in cheek Dr Who/Red Dwarf crossover xmas special written by RTD and DN/RG, that would be amazing.

This is kind of true, the main reason they used CGI in 7/8 is because they destroyed the only model of red dwarf they had, at the end of Season 5 (I think it was the doubles episode with the good/bad splitter thing), so instead of creating a new model which was fairly expensive to make, the cheaper alternative was CGI

RIMMER: Is there something amiss?

LISTER: Amiss? God no, what could possibly be amiss?

RIMMER: You don't think there's anything amiss? I'm sitting here wearing a red and white checked gingham dress and army boots and you think that's un-amiss?

CAT: No, of course not. It's just that we thought you had gone nuts! We were tryin' to humour you.

RIMMER: I was just doing a little test -- a little test to see if you had gone crazy.

RIMMER: SCHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! If theres one thing I can't stand it's crazy people
