Red Orchestra (2) : Heroes of Stalingrad

Managed to get the game to start, had to install UE3Redist.exe ([drive letter of install]:\Program Files(x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\redorchestra2beta\Bin aries\Windows).

thanks worked for me, absolutely awesome game. Couple of glitches here and there and the browser is horrendous but definitely had that old RO feeling again. My new addiction.

Here are two game modes, called Firefight and Countdown. One has fairly random respawns and it's a spazzy gametype, yet action packed, and the other has no respawns but with tactical gameplay. If only we could develope a gamemode that combined the action of the first with the tactics of the second...

Oh wait, they did. It's called Territory and was the basis for the first game.

I have no idea why these gametypes are included at all. Firefight is even more spazzy than CoD TDM because you spawn under fire, and whoever decided that 'Insta-kills, long round time, only respawns you get are when defenders have taken up prepared positions and can immediately fire at you' was a good idea for Countdown needs a smack.

Just restarted steam and a patch is downloading.

But, weirdly enough, the original ostfront 41-45 is downloading as well, I don't own/buy it yet it now shows in my steam games list.

Have they included it with the deluxe version or something now?

Seems good so far! Infantry battles are much more interesting than in RO.

Highlight of the night: a tank commander popped out the top of his tank. Unfortunately for him, we were parked about 5 metres away behind him. Ended with a HE shell to the back of the head :)

I echo comments about this countdown type gameplay, probably will be very enjoyable and tactical when you learn the maps and get some good team play going but at the moment it sucks.

I Need a lot of practice with the cover system as I feels a bit awkward to get used to so far. Weapons have a pretty nice feel to them and the game is as unforgiven as you would expect. Enjoying it so far and will jump back on tonight.

Yeah countdown is strange to start but I think it's just because it's early on and you have to learn the map, a tactic. At some stages of it I don't even know where the enermy are lol, but it was getting better after quite a few rounds, I like to flank round those carriges on the right, can get a nice side on view of the defenders then.

Going to try a little tank action tonight.

The apartments map is good but wish there were some extra ways to go, it lacks some nice flanking action really.

Changelog:
  • Fixed the server browser being slow/laggy
  • Fixed some crashing issues with the server browser
  • Fixed certain maps crashing in countdown game mode when 64 players would respawn at the same time
  • Fixed some icons getting stuck on the screen (FT1, FT2, etc)
  • Fixed choosing (defaults) in the key config menu removing keys
  • Fixed some debugging tools so us devs can figure out what is causing crashes easier

Also this may help with people crashing (copied from Reddit.):
I crashed a bunch until I set red orchestra to run in admin mode. Here is how you do it. Go to:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\redorchestra2beta\Binaries\Win32

Find the file ROGame.exe

Right click and hit properties. Click the Compatibility tab. Click the check box "Run this program as an administrator". Hit okay.

Now run the game through Steam and see if that helps.

EDIT: Note, the (x86) part is only if you are running a 64 bit Windows 7. This is on Windows 7 too by the way, YMMV with other operating systems.

Played it a bit last night and not my thing at all really.

Building windows filled with campers all sporting one hit kill rifles.

Yawn, refund sought.

Im glad they have released a patch, will have to try it when I get home!

When I actually managed to get into a game last night I had a lot of fun!

I really like the bullet drop/ballistics, and I like the way you can role the mouse wheel to set different ranges on your sights.

Hopefully this patch coupled with the hint above will stop my constant crashing!

Also, how the hell did people not know about the hand indicator for grenades....? Common sense surely?!

Also, did people know that if you press '6' when zoomed on the sniper rifle, you switch to iron sights? Very useful for close up shots
