Red Orchestra: Ostfront 41-45

It plays pretty much how I remember the UT Mod did.
Although it is not the most graphically advanced game, I like the gameplay a lot, especially tank combat. I think you need real teamwork, especially in the vehicles. Its impossible to get your sights on a target when the driver is all over the place.

I also love the attention to detail, like the sound when a shell thuds into the side of a tank or glances off the sloped armour.

I agree, the gameplay is great in RO if you prefer something tactical with meaasured gameplay. For those looking for something along the lines of DoD, CoD2 etc. you should really have at least visited the RO forums. As if you prefer arcade\dm type play you would have quickly found out that it probably wouldn't be your cup of tea. The RO team have aimed for the "realism" slant on the gameplay. It is really quite satisfying working as a squad and achieving your objectives. I really like the tanks as well, although my shells always seem to bounce off!!!

I was expecting a bit more from the graphics this time around, but I still like its gritty look.

The 'plasma' - green MG tracers - are what the Russian army actually used - yes, bright flurescent green MG tracers! And I'm not kidding! :D

its not the colour :) it just looks wrong for some reason,

This game is amazing. Graphics looks awesome (Running Maxed with 2x AA), and the sound is incredible.

Gameplay is pretty much like the mod, and there was no reason to change that at all.

Not an arcadey game. I'd not recommend it to people who like going rambo in CoD or chopper-whoring in bf2.

I've been playing it for a few hours now and I really enjoy it.
The graphics bothered me at first but once I turned AA and AF and turned off the bloom effect (which made everything blurry) it looks pretty good. I like the models (although the animation isn't amazing) I think the player models look better than cod2/MoH series. they always looked like cartoon characters.

The maps I played have been really good, big so they need lots of players to fill them. Although it takes a while to find some action it's always fast paced once you get there and constanty tense!

The only thing I think they could add is background noise like in DOD:S and COD2. I mentioned that in one server and got a reply saying that the noises you hear are being made by other people so its more realistic etc. I just feel that in the bigger maps when your away from the action its too quiet...

apart from that Im really enjoying it. more tactical than the others out there and it definitely has potential for team based play :D

Well I've turned up the AA/AF to 4x/8x on my x800xl and it plays nicely, if only on 800x600 at the moment. It's a lot smother and doesn't look as rough as default settings so I think they're just leaving that side of thing's to the user to do rather than what Source does in trying to find your ideal settings.

Anyone have a local server yet where we can play against other forum members?

I Played it for afew hours yesterday and afew hours today, i've come to the conclusion that the maps are faaaaaaar to huuuuuuuuuge for 32 players, sure some of them are tank maps.. but even the infantry maps are immense in size. This means you hardly come into contact with any opposition and are just left wandering for what seems like a lifetime before you find an enemy to kill. People claim its "rewarding" when you "get that first kill " which indeed, is rubbish, as it would imply it takes some kind of skill to use the weapons, also rubbish. No harder than any other fps in all honesty, infact some other games can be more challenging. I'm a little confused as to Why they use "realism" as a sales pitch when the environments, textures, animations, models, effects are FAR from realistic looking. Anyway, rant aside, i guess i'll play this when i'm tired of other fps games and want a change e.t.c

I'm actually quite liking this now im getting used to it. Played a few human to human maps today. No one wanted to use the tanks. I like the idea of, he who shoots first, (with good aim) wins. :p

Same here. If you want a realistic WW2 game then I think this is for you, rather than DoD, etc as people said previously. I'm not very good at it at the moment mind you and it seems most players want the snipers and hide in the church towers. ;)

Yeah I played some more today, big maps.

Its good but not fantastic, its good but not crap, its medium.

If you have spare money and are intrested, get it, if not wait for the demo and see if its worth your time :)

They should speed up normal walking/running a tiny bit more. IMO. I hate starting back at a spawn point. And have to drudge my way back to the action.

At first I thought it was horrible. The graphics seemed very poor but i've found that it's only on a few maps that's that case. (The big flat open field tank ones)

After playing it for about 10 hours in the last 2 days I can now say I really like it and the graphics on most the maps are actualy really good. (I took these screenies below). It can be very frustrating at first but it's not got that steep a learning curve and more than worth £15!!!
