Regrets

Another regret was buying a 360, and the first 2 games that i had for it were Clive Barkers Jericho, and The Darkness.
What a waste. A couple of weeks later, i got Halo 3 and Gears of War though:D

Way too many recently the following I consider to all be utter rubbish & a waste of money but I am stuck with them due to the DRM just like the publishers wanted :(

Crysis2 (appalling gameplay, dated gfx & boring/confusing storyline. cba to even complete it as its a waste of electricity)

COD Black Ops (QTE hell with vastly inferior CODMW2 gameplay & 6 year old gfx).

Hawx2 (terrific DX11 gfx. thats it the gameplay is rubbish & controls are poor plus some missions require pixel perfection or you replay large sections again & again....)

Fallout New Vegas (utter junk. FNV was created start to finish in under 10 months & it shows badly....)

Modern Warfare 2. I wanted it for a little bit of online blast every now and then but 2 days later the servers full of bots. Last time I buy a game in the series.

Same here, my clan mates kept on and on for me to get it and i said i wouldn't due to no dedicated servers. Gave in and regretted it, not as good as cod4 or waw.

My mate then tried to get me to buy black ops! never ever going back to this series, total waste of money.

Seriously people, you can't judge a multiplayer game based on it's tacked on, bonus single player campaign. Give me some REAL reasons why you dislike cod. Reasons that'll make me go "Oh yeah, I suppose he has a point there"

BulletStorm, I paid £30 and got about 5 minutes of playtime out of it. Although I only played 5 minutes I still managed to find about 2 bugs and had 3 crash to desktops.

Elemental: War of Magic.

So pumped for that game during beta, with all the promises etc and being told the dev version was way better, that everything would be fantastic on release....well it was an absolute disaster. So much potential but Stardock had no clue what they were doing....oh well, maybe the freebie game (Fallen Enchatress) for beta testers and early buyers will make up for it.

One thing is for sure, I don't have much trust in Stardock anymore...

Every year I buy Football Manager on release day. Every year I play it for one week then never touch it again for months :p

My Top 5 Regrets:

5: Empire Total War
Broke too far from the tried and tested TW formula. Map was too disjointed as it was so vast and muskets made for very dull battles. Fortunately Shogun 2 is awesome and a welcome return!

4: Medal Of Honour
Elements were good but MP (what a game like this lives for) is so limited and next to no variation. How can they release something like this with less than 10 primary weapons?!? Not to mention massive hacker issues!

3: Fallout: New Vegas
Fallout 3 was amazing and I loved it so much, this was such a disappointing follow up

2: COD: Black Ops
I play MP still as my main MP game but only because I don't really have anything else short of going back to TF2/CSS but I will agree with criticism - massive disappointment

1: Command and Conquer 4/Red Alert 3
My two favourite RTS series butchered. RA2 was never serious/believable but RA3 takes the biscuit. Not to mention the models are terrible and look like a toy an 8 year old would play with.

And then i come to the biggest gaming disappointment of my lifer EVER: C&C 4. Took my favourite game (C&C 3) and just took a massive dump on it. I welcome innovation and change but what they did was basically get rid of the staple C&C gameplay style which is why so many of us pay and play those games. TRULY TERRIBLE :(

massively disagree with the New Vegas haters. I loved it. Added 20-30 mods and played through it for a very long time. Defintely got my moneys worth out of it.

As for MW2, i didn't like it at all, but played with a few mates in a clan, and probably played online for arund 2-3 months, so i can't say i regret it, as i certainly got something out of it.

I also buy a football Manager every year, play it for around a month, and never touch it again.

I got The Darkness when I had a 360, but I liked the game quite a lot. :D However, I do share similar feelings about New Vegas, great gaming experience.

Must be your PC & or other windows software/config that game is ultra stable & I played it for 6 hours solid several times on Co-Op with several other players & no crashes whatsoever for any of us!

Its one of the most stable recent PC games there is ;)

There is a bulletstorm demo on steam now i think?

might give it a go tomorrow. a few people have told me it's good, but not too serious

Just played through the demo. I still enjoyed it a lot despite using a crappy 3450. I wouldn't want to play the whole game through like this, but for the short duration of the demo I set it to 1024x768 @ medium settings. Not bad for a poor htpc card. Eyes were a bit strained though. Nonetheless, great fun. :)

Some people here ARE talking about the MP! The spawn system is the worst I've ever encountered in all my years gaming (I'm a very, very old man :D). I've been killed more than once and then spawned directly behind my killer a few seconds later - close enough to knife him! The weapons are all ugly as sin and some of them are just plain old weird choices to include (prototype Enfield - WTF?). The weapons are all very similar in recoil, 'feel' and damage too - at least in MW2 many of the guns were vastly different and you had to 'learn' things like L96+SUSAT (once you learned how to use them properly they became awesome to use). The MP suffers from things like random rank and exp loss - I've lost ranks in the past for no reason. Then there's the stuttering, the frankly poor graphics, the nearly useless shotgun, the temporary invulnerability you gain from Last Stand, the daftness of the killstreaks (at least in MW2 most killstreaks were easily counterable with other killstreaks or loadouts).

Did I miss anything?

Thanks for that. It's nice to hear some legitimate reasons. Sometimes reading this forum you get the impression that people are knocking something just because it's big/popular.
I think every cod has it's big game breaking flaws.
Cod 4 had martyrdom, that game pretty much became a "dodge the exploding corpse" simulator.
World at war had it's insane shoot from the hip accuracy.
Modern warfare 2 had it's boosters and lack of dedicated servers.
I think black ops, in the grand scheme of things, is pretty ruddy good. The only big flaws are the stuttering (which is fixed completely by turning off shadows) and the spawn system, which I don't think is that bad.
I don't agree that all the guns are the same and I never play with sniper/shotgun so am not that bothered that they got nerfed :D

Black ops is a multiplayer game. How many times does it need to be said?
It would be like saying gta is naff based on the multiplayer alone. It's ludicrous!
