*** Resident Evil 2 Remake ***

Did you not like RE4? Its one of my favourites.
I liked it as a game and enjoyed it. But not as a Resident Evil game. It changed what made Resident Evil a Resident Evil game and it is not until this remake that I can say Resident Evil is back. Resident Evil 7 was close, but did not like the first person view and didn't like any of the characters.

Resident Evil is not about action imo. I hope they never forget that. Make another IP for that or something.

So I have finally completed both A and B scenarios for both Leon and Clair and I am 85% through the achievements, got 6 left :)

These should all be achievable. Not sure how I missed the last achievement, that is a easy one.

Hardcore Rookie
Complete Leon's story on "Hardcore" game mode.

Hardcore College Student
Complete Claire's story on "Hardcore" game mode.

A Small Carbon Footprint
Take 14000 steps or fewer in one playthrough.

Sizzling Scarlet Hero
Complete Claire's story on "Standard" or "Hardcore" with an S rank.

Leon "S." Kennedy
Complete Leon's story on "Standard" or "Hardcore" with an S rank.

In the Blink of an Eye
Defeat Super Tyrant with 5+ minutes left until detonation.

I usually never bother with achievements unless it is a game I really like with achievements that are actually achievable. That usually means one game every couple of years.

I think this game looks and sounds great with 7.1(5.1)

I didn't like the smaa it just had white lines everywhere. I switched to taa looks so much smoother.

I think I have everything maxed out 1080p with 2gb textures taa and 130%.

Im getting solid 60 and it looks great but just wondering if there is any settings you guys switch on or off to make it look better.

I don't wanna look through thread until I have finished game, im afraid of spoiling something.

First thing I did was turn off motion blur, depth of field, lens distortion and film noise. All make the image quality better when turned off in my opinion.

I am on 4K and had a couple playthroughs with no AA, things look much sharper and better, but you do see some aliasing and some areas were worse than others where there was shimmering. In the other playthroughs I used FXAA+TAA which completely eliminates any aliasing, but then you lose a lot of detail and sharpness, but it still looks very good.

The other option that I turned off for my 4th playthrough was screen space reflections which has well documented issues in this game that causes weird things to happen on certain surfaces.

Everything else I have on maximum settings. Ignore the complaint about not having enough memory for textures. If you have a 8gb card, stick it on 8gb. I have mine on 8gb and it says I should have 13gb but only have 12gb so it is in red. Not had any issues.

I just tested going over vram limit and guy in video is wrong.

Same settings as before I use the next texture size and fighting this boss my framerate went from rock solid never dropping below 60fps to 30fps when he throws stuff at me.
Weird. Didn’t happen to me. When I was monitoring it while playing it barely ever reached 8gb, I had 4Gb to spare, yet the game recons I should have over 13gb.

Im fighting this boss right now in the lab and when settings say im using 6.6 of my 8gb im fine perfectly locked to 60fps all game. If I try using 8.5gb on my 8gb card by turning texture quality up my fps drops hard like 30fps when he starts throwing stuff.
Yeah, can’t ignore facts. I suppose in your case you need to play on lower texture quality. The only time I have seen drops in FPS is in 2-3 areas where there is a lot of volumetric light present. But the drop does not bother me as I have g-sync and dropping from 57 to 40’s is not a huge deal, though I feel it when it happens. Very rare though, so a non issue for me. I could mitigate it by running my card overclocked instead of underclocked, but not worth it.

Just finished the game with clare, I will read through thread now.

I thought game was great surprised how much I enjoyed it and how good the atmosphere was. most the game I was swearing at the enemies when they got near me.

I rate the game 9 out 10, only thing letting it down was the game got bit easy towards the end.

Running round the station with clare with all the footsteps behind you and zombies every where when you got no ammo or health was brilliant fun.
Glad you enjoyed it, more people that like it, the better. That way we get Resident Evil 3 remake and then after a Resident Evil 8 that uses this formula of gameplay going forward!

When you get to my post about rating the game in the series, let us know where you rate the game compared to the others :)

Honestly it would be hard for me to put them in order. Unlike most people I really enjoyed all of them and like them all for different reasons.

I see you don't like 4 and 5 but I loved playing through them with my friends. On 4 we would take turns and 5 having online coop was great fun.

Im really looking forward to playing 7 in vr if they ever bring it to pc.

I think this resident evil 2 has 96% thumbs up on steam so I imagine they will do another one after this.

For me what stood out on this one was how good the sound was. It was sending chills down me running round police station with volume up on the home cinema.

The only ones I did not enjoy much at all were probably my bottom 3. With revaluations games the episodic rubbish ruined it a bit, the first wa not bad, but I did not enjoy the second game at all and less we talk about Resident Evil 6 the better. Lol.

I never said I did not enjoy RE4 and 5. I enjoyed 4 quite a bit at the time, but it did not feel like a proper resident evil game to me. I always have the urge to replay resident evil games every few years. I don’t get the urge to play RE4 and 5 much or at all really. Will likely replay 4 after the graphical mod that is being worked on is fully complete. Looking back I have only completed RE5 two times, I have already completed RE2 Remake more than that and I won’t tell you how many times I have completed the original remake over the years :p

Yes, it just didn't have the same scare factor and things started to become predictable. It became more of an action game which didn't quite fit with me.

I felt something similar with RE3, it was by far my least favourite out of the 3 games at the time. But with familiars story setting and gameplay etc still makes it a better game for me than majority of other resident evil games for me. I still enjoy replaying it every few years.

Would love a remake.

I have never played resident evil 1 remake is it as good as this?
In terms of a Resident Evil game I would say yes. But it is different as it has pre-rendered backgrounds. I actually like pre-rendered backgrounds. Imagine if they made a resident evil game today using them, they would look a whole generation ahead graphically. Resident Evil remake looked way ahead of its time on the GameCube!

Finished Leon and Clair and I have to say I really did not enjoy it. Why there was not even a basic melee or dodge move spoilt it for me.
I seemingly unlocked survivor mode and had a quick look but the amount of rounds you needed to put a zombie down was just plain silly.

Looking forward to the 15th of this month.
By the sound of it mate you were expecting a football game and got a rugby one instead by mistake and wondered why you was not enjoying it :p

With survivor mode when I finally finished it I was dodging (running past) over 50% of the zombies. There is no way you can kill every zombie in that mode. This is the issue, people are expecting a different type of game and then getting disappointed. It seems like you would enjoy Resident Evil 4-6. Action and bullets galore :)

I certainly do not understand the football/rugby analogy. But I have played pretty much every Res Evil game made and not all have been good by any means. This was a remake where they were happy to drop stuff, spiders in sewer for example but not give a simple dodge or melee which I feel would have been an improvement. But hey it wasted a few hours.
Fair enough mate, I did take it too far with that one :p

Sorry did not know/forgot you played most the other games. I personally feel any dodge other than what is there could be game breaking in this design. What you are saying would make the game way different and personally I think it would be inferior unless executed in a way I cannot think of right now. It is just not that type of game imo.

You really can run past many zombies if done in a certain way and also you have the knife etc that helps you dodge unless they take you from behind that is.

The knife is crazy OP in this game, even on hardcore it does delicious damage to bosses.
I remember in the old games it did hardly any and I would always store it asap. In this game they are useful. Got my unbreakable knife now :)

I am about to complete the game for the 5th time. It seems I will not be able to keep it under 3 hours for the achievement, but I have not done a single save, as auto saves are plenty on standard mode. I messed up by actually make sure I collect everything it seems :(

Finally completed Leon A scenario at just over 2 hours mark to get S+ and also did the under 14000 steps achievement. I get my samurai unlimited handgun now :D

The bad news however is somehow 2 of my achievements got reversed. I unlocked the unbreakable combat knife, but somehow it shows I have not completed the mr raccoons achievement. Wtf? I started a brand new game to check and the unbreakable knife and the unlimited samurai gun were in the item box. The other achievement I think is the one I also recently unlocked where you beat the boss quickly. What gives?

Should have had 3 achievements left to unlock, but now 5 again :(

Just looked, those are two brand new achievements it seems for the upcoming dlc. I guess there will be more mr raccoons to find :)

"Hell of a Sheriff": Complete the No Way Out scenario. (No training mode)

"Got 'Em": Destroy all Mr. Raccoons hidden in The Ghost Survivors mode.

Sooo, heart key as Leon. Didn't realise :D
How long did you take looking for it? Lol. On my first playthrough I did every room and the map showed I got everything, I moved on thinking it would show up later on in the game, but then forgot about it.

Apparently some people spent ages search for it. Haha.

I might do one more playthrough at a relaxed pace using a Xbox controller. Had a quick go with a controller and it feels very different than playing with keyboard and mouse. You can make the characters move at different speeds. Also just the way you look around with a controller just feels different, more cinematic somehow. Just feels like a very different experience, which is weird as I have not felt that with other games.

I messed around with my samurai pistol also, not fun using it for a playthrough as unlimited bullets is just boring. But for dismembering the zombies, that is a different matter. Has anyone managed to completely shoot of all the limbs of a zombie before killing it? I managed it and it was still trying to attack shimmying towards me with its torso at a snail pace :D

I ended up using the magnum the first run through, killing them of course, then the rocket launcher when I unlocked it, no bother then
No rocket launcher for me yet :(

I did play once and got to the stage 1 birkin, I never had a knife on me and ended up dying after 2 hits from him. Had no saves so that was that.
