Resident Evil 3 Remake

Started to play a second playthrough and suddenly thought this is bloody boring and uninstalled.
To higher a price for what was a dubious remake and a very short game.

I am actually surprised that I am now on my 5th playthrough and still having fun. Unlocked the rocket launcher and the other electric gun. Having fun blowing **** up on hardcore difficulty. Next up is inferno difficulty where I will try and get the S rank and finish off all achievements :)

I'm glad I started on HC and taking my time so it doesn't feel as short. The game would be sooo good with alternate scenarios, less setpieces and some more areas. It's fun but my biggest gripe with it is not enough time to explore and take in the atmosphere before it starts throwing you into setpieces. Or quieter areas where you could explore but there's virtually nothing to do except go forward. A missed opportunity to recreate/expand some locations for a change of pace.

I'll still replay it a few times. Ideally, I'd want to finish Inferno without bonus items but I heard it's some firs-rate BS. I 100%'ed Sekiro and completed BB + Old Hunters but this might be worse:p

Finished this today, play time was 5 hours.

Nemesis was tediously boring and there isn't enough secrets or unique game experiences to warrant a second play through.

I enjoyed it though, but glad i got it for free.

I want to pull the trigger on this but I'm put off by these reports of 5 hours. I usually take my time and get considerably longer out of games but as a measure, how does this compare in terms of length to Resident Evil 2? Does anyone have total hours for their first play through of both games they can share?

RE games are usually pretty short and focus more on replayability.

2 and 3 have different feeling campaigns with 3 being more streamlined and there's more action and less "puzzles".

This one doesn't count inventory time as well. RE2 took me 7.5h first time going very slow, I'm currently in the last area in RE3 Hardcore at 5:30-something without cutscenes and reloading from the main menu to save time. I explored and experimented repeating sections and had fun in general so total time shows almost 10h. I can go through RE2 on Hardcore under 2h so it doesn't say much, the first run is for fun and exploring.

From what people were saying, I was prepared for the locations to be terrible but they weren't. Sewers were short but nice and I disliked the sewers in 2. Hospital was pretty atmospheric and decently complex and I like the last area more than in 2, even though it strays from the original.

Dodging is fun, enemy variety is better, bosses are better (still not amazing), unlockables are better and there are 5 difficulty levels. The last two levels mix things up a bit.

It also felt pretty complete as a whole but with some more explorable areas, live choices and Mercenaries it'd be great.

Overall, I was initially disappointed but it grew on me and I think a bit more content could elevate this above RE2. I'm pretty satisfied having paid half price.

If you only want to play through it once, wait for sale.

All right, hardcore finished. First playthrough is always the best as you can take it slow but I'm already itching for another run so I think I'll grab the S.T.A.R.S outfit from the shop and do a leisure run on Assisted to grind points before tackling Nightmare and Inferno:D

RE2R is still better overall but this beats it in certain regards and could've edged it with more content.

You are best to do a run with no more than one herb (green one you have to take for story reasons) and combine it with not opening the item box, on assisted difficulty

Yeah, that's what I'm planning, I saved that run for the last in RE2 but in this one I'll make it my second because of the points, I'm also going to grind some kills for the challenges.

Thank you for the comprehensive response. Is the second playthrough with a different character, like in RE2?

No, you play as Jill and Carlos within a single scenario. The game switches to Carlos for some bits and that's basically it.

The replayability comes from the fact that you unlock the shop after completion and can buy new weapons and special items for points you get for completing challenges, for example no healing/no item box playthrough, finishing under 2h, finding collectibles etc. It's different than 2 because there you had to get S+ ranks to unlock all infinite weapons you then had no use for as you had basically mastered the game.

Finishing the game on Hardcore unlocks Nightmare difficulty and if you complete that, you unlock Inferno. Those two modes are a new addition, as RE2 only went up to Hardcore, and they mix things up with items and enemy placement so they're a bit like B scenarios.

If you feel like you'll have fun with subsequent playthroughs and getting S ranks or playing around with bonus items, then you can potentially squeeze 4-5 playthroughs out of the game. If not, then I'd say it's not worth it at current prices.

That's basically all the game offers not including Resistance, hope that helps:)

It does help yes. Thanks again. Still undecided. I love RE games but don't usually replay games until after a considerable amount of time has passed. I see it's down to £28.75 on HRK too. Almost cheap enough...

If only playing it once for now I would wait until £20. But if you are like us and you will play 5-6 times then totally worth it at £28.75
