Well I’m on hardcore mode I’ve never been stuck for ages on any part. I just search every part of the map. I die a few times each chapter, maybe a dozen at most on a previous chapter. Hey I am 50 years old reflexes are gone and can’t remember the game from original play through in 2004-5.

Edit 46 hours lol.

I am 8+ hours and still not on island but I am taking my time. I even just walk at times as it adds to the atmosphere.

Did that a lot on my first playthrough, don't really like speedrunning so I wanted to get this over with but well, S+ and Minimalist simultaneously on HC without bonus items wasn't that great of a choice for a second run as I don't get to walk around soaking in the atmosphere:D

I did get to get eaten by Salazar three times while trying to kill him with my pea shooter though, that has to do for the atmosphere part.

I might do it a lot more for my third playthrough as I intend to use a controller this time. Been playing keyboard and mouse thus far :)

Shooting range on a controller, yay:p

I'll finish this run and either do NG Professional without bonuses, take it slow and reexpeerience the game or go for S+ HC again as I'll probably miss the mark on this one by a good 10min. Should be way easier with all weapons.

Or maybe I'll just chill and finally do some NG+ cycles to play around and upgrade stuff, either way still not tired of the game:p

Chill man chill. That's what I am doing. Not ready for the stress :)

I actually may not even bother as this game is a lot longer than the others and there are bits in it that will probably really **** me off.

Like even without the time pressure I already got ****** off at Ashley twice as she got in the way and I shot her. I was like arghhhh... 15-20 minutes wasted! Once was my bad with a rifle and the other I got her in the leg, that was her fault

I bloody hate games with an ai controlled partner. That's why I am not looking forward to RE5 at all, plus the story was nothing special at all.

Oh yeah, just like Ashley's AI annoyed me in the original, it annoys me here as well. AI partners suck in general.

There are absolutely bits that will **** you off on challenge runs:P Thankfully, there's enough stuff you can do to get your money's worth without even touching them.

Alternatively, you can try unlocking the armour for Ashley and Chicago Sweeper or Handcannon etc. to make them significantly easier. The armour makes Ashley a non-issue, you can't shoot her and she's too heavy to get abducted:P

You can S+ with the above as long as you're not on NG+, exclusive upgrade ticket unlocks infinite ammo for the Sweeper and Handcannon so you can have that when you reach the castle.

I probably won't bother with S+ on Pro though as the optimal point for the first save is around Chapter 4:P The current run is plenty annoying enough.

I did it, barely... Should've picked up less treasures/requests but at least I fully upgraded the Red9 and both knives by the end.

Hardcore S+ handgun/knife only without bonus items in 5h 24mins, the amount of gymnastics I had to do to pull this off in certain sections was insane, so frustrating. And I missed 1 Castellan.

Chill playthroughs from now on:P

I am on chapter 14 now. Professional can get annoying at times, but not long left now. Fully upgraded all my fav weapons and have about 350K saved thus far :)

Some sections are pretty rough on challenge runs. For me it wasn't even the bosses, I killed Krauser first try pretty fast and Salazar on my third try. Saddler was easy.

I had more trouble with stuff like the water room which took a bit more planning and the AA turret section where I was already pushing the time limit for S+ and had to weave between enemies avoiding attacks buying myself enough time to man the machine gun and destroy the turret before getting my back decorated with an axe:P
Oh, and the valley in the village took a few attempts as well.

Regenerators with handgun/knife were fun:D

Needless to say, if someone wants to do Minimalist, just do it on Assisted and for the love of god, don't do S+ at the same time:P

Started Professional myself in NG+, I have the Ashley Armour and Chicken Hat now, might use the former as I just want to complete it and take it slow. Did S ranks in Mercs for the handcannon and I only have the Red9 and knives left from that challenge playthrough so will focus on upgrading weapons:P

I'll drop to Assisted NG+ ater that to mop up remaining challenges and do a quick S+ on Standard NG, should be a breeze with all weapons.

Then, maybe, after a longer break, S+ Pro but I doubt it:P

Finally completed it on profesional :D

Man i died quite a few times on the bit were Ahsley is using the wrecking ball machine.

My problem is I try to do it all with arrows and handgun and conserve shotgun. Once I was like **** it and sprayed them with my shotgun it was not so bad

Managed to do every single request this time and got an achievement. Plus two more for completing the game on professional.

So what's the difference between hardcore and professional?

I think I will play a bit of mercenaries and give the game a break. Will have had 40 hours of fun by then which is great.

Did you use grenades on the wall to speed it up?

Nope. Did not even know that was a thing. Only thing I recall having to look up was about defacing Salazar's painting. I thought a few slashes with a knife would do the trick. After read about it, the chickens in that location finally made sense

I forgot to mention. I have nearly a million pesos now. Was going to just get a normal rocket launcher thinking there would be ammo for it, but I get the feeling it might be a one time use type weapon so I am thinking if I save for one more playthrough I can buy the unlimited rocket launcher :D

There are a couple of interesting skips like that, unfortunately I couldn't use them on my HC run:p

There seems to be lots of little interesting things in this game which I am not sure we're in the original. This is how you do a remake. I expected this or even more if I am being honest when they remade RE 2 and 3.

Yeah, quite a lot fun little details, not even necessarily connected with skipping sections, like Ashley treading carefully around dead enemies, trying to jump down on her own if you don't help her, Leon switching to center axis relock in CQC etc. Many more actually.

You can even skip the village fight by a shooting the bell on the tower in NG+ (sniper needed):p

Really well made game.

EDIT: Oh, even the fact that if you reload a mag that's not empty, you keep a bullet in the chamber and it shows as +1:D

I wish 2 and 3 got the treatment this received.

I decided to use a different save for my Pro NG+ run as I have way more weapons, charms and leftover spinels than on my HC Minimalist save (no charms to be precise, there was no time for the shooting range:P).

I should technically go for sub 7h for the Chicago Sweeper (needed for Gun Fanatic) I feel like doing a slow 100% playthrough purely for fun and atmosphere.

Getting some incredible value for money with this game, last time I had so much fun was Elden Ring, I think.

Never did bother with Elden ring. seemed too much like Dark Souls which is a borefest for me. But yeah, great value this game. Will keep it installed and this time as you say do a chilled playthrough with a controller this time. Also I will look up all the interesting thing to do that the game offers and have fun with them. Like I never got the best charms or the hand cannon.

It's not exactly like Souls, it has that DNA but it's like a more challenging BoTW/Souls hybrid TBH. I think it's worth experiencing for the world design alone, not to mention the combat, build options and the secrets. It has its flaws, like just about every game, but what's there is great. Even with the reused stuff later on, there are enough unique locations, secrets and enemies to make three games.

I'm not too big on Souls myself but I love Bloodborne and Sekiro. I'd prefer BB2 or S2. "Borefest" is pretty extreme though but I won't try to persuade you otherwise:p

There have been a couple of games in recent years I really liked but this and ER are the standouts from 2022-2023 so far, at least judging by the fun I had.
