Resident Evil 7!!!

Those are my favourite moments, when something comes bursting out suddenly. Those get a jump out of me and with great music it is fun :D

Yeah, i remember the one with the big bald bloke, gets dropped through the roof in a tube from that chopper, when he comes bursting through the wall just in front of you, man did i crap then  :D

Yea I remember that.

Man I really miss old style Resi games. Even though I will probably enjoy Resident Evil 7 more than 5 and 6, it won't be like the old game. Why do they have to mess with what works :(

Okay so I played it, it doesn't last long at all, and I get why it's labelled as a "teaser" now, even though you barely do anything in it :/

Firstly, for the PC settings shown previously, you can be forgiven for thinking this game is well optimised and geared toward PC gamers.

It is not.

**The bad:**

On my system (GTX 980, 3770K 4.5GHz, 16GB) at 3440x1440 inside the house using the Very High (max) settings, I found performance to be below average for the visuals on display. I could not see the fps as STEAM's overlays is garbled in this game, and nVidia ShadowPlay FPS counter doesn't display either.

To me it feels like it dips to 30fps from 60+ suddenly then back up to 60+ again.

Funnily enough, the STEAM fps overlay works fine when in the cutscenes, just not the main game itself...

The default graphics options were set to low, had to manually whack everything up. The below average performance is only in the main house, so I guess there's HBAO optimisations to be done, or particle effects, even though there isn't anything that stands out as superb in either regard. There are other games that do better effects with higher settings and perform in orders of magnitude better, and those are in a much bigger sandbox. I expected better here.

The sound options have no audio preset for speakers, only surround, headphones and TV.

The controls feel like they are geared for a console (right mouse button is default for back, you can't manually move the scrollbar with the mouse, you h ave to mouse wheel or use arrow keys etc).

I did record gameplay using ShadowPlay, but the game audio was not captured for some reason :/

**The good**

- Native 21:9 monitor support with FOV settings
- Spooky atmosphere
- You can skip cutscenes

On a 6700k @4.6ghz + 1060 currently but only rocking 1080p while my performance was totally acceptable i noticed some drops myself though i think a higher resolution would have exaggerated them im sure. However my shadow play fps counter works perfectly thus no use for me to try steams. I personally found the game to be quite pretty? i guess it's preference of style but i definitely think it looked good and can understand systems struggling to run it maxed out.

Deffinately agree here, i also had Dpad controls showing in the inventory. Despite no controller being attached, but k&m controls worked without problem

I think you may want to reinstall geforce experience or check your settings as you seem to be having a lot of issues with it, i tried a recording and worked with no faults.

- Native 21:9 monitor support with FOV settings Good that they support different hardware 21:9 must be glorious
- Spooky atmosphere Damn right it's spooky
- You can skip cutscenes why would you skip cutscenes?

My issue with the performance was that it's such a small sandbox (house) that it absolutely should run 60fps minimum. Games like BF1, Tomb Raider etc have way larger sandboxes with a million more things happening, and they too had initial console releaees. They are able to maintain over 60fps at all times on the same system, and display greater graphical effects

I'm using a fresh install of the newest drivers by the way that came out a few days ago. I did notice that the system requirements stated the recommended spec was aimed at 60fps at 1080p, so I figure higher resolutions would probably be a lottery for optimisation.

Skipping cutscenes is essential for when you replay a game to see alternate endings, find extra loot etc.

I'll probably still get the game, but only when it's under £30, because I like the Res Evil franchise.

Aye each to their own, i imagine they wanted to focus on optimising the demo/teaser towards the majority of people thus 1080p and lower end systems. Hopefully by the time you get it they will have done some more optimisation. I don't think i would say that tomb raider or bf1 have better graphical effects though. This said it's been a while since i played them both now so my eyes may be lying to me.

Definitely enjoyed my time on it though! And regarding the Nvidia stuff it could just be the game being temperamental with your particular setup then :)

The graphical effects in BF1 are only matched by a handful of games really. If you've played it on ultra, then you'll know what I mean. The Res Evil 7 depth of field just blurs foreground and background with basic blur, for example. It's like the fake blur you get on smartphone camera software.

I can live with all that in a game though, but one thing that puts me off majorly is mouse input lag. Doesn't matter if frame rate is set to uncapped (variable) and vsync is off, there's still mouse lag!

I'll play at a lower resolution and see if things change here as I'm betting at 2560x1080 it will be just fine if the resolution lottery mentioned earlier is accurate.

Not being optimised and sub par fps is one thing, but screwing the keyboard and mouse controls. Will give it a try later :o

FPS are garbage my KFA2 GTX1080 HOF cannot even handle this game @ 4K for such basic looking graphics as well its virtually unplayable

Damn. Not good, not good.

Will probably end up playing it like consoles, 30fps locked with a controller. At least it will be 4K for me though :D

Will try the demo soon and report back.

Rainforest PC-DVD version pre-order is only £26 now! I'm tempted at that price not at £39.99 but if you do not buy direct from Steam you cannot get a refund so not sure about where or if to buy right now based on the demo content.

Can be had for a little over £24 at CDKeys. I got mine from there when it was £29, waiting on my cashback to be paid which will make it £22.12 :)

Edit: Decided to cancel the CDKeys pre-order. Got it from Amazon for £24 instead. For the sake of £1.88 at least I do not need to worry about cashback. Prime customers can pre-order for £24 by the way :)

Still excited for this game, I am pretty sure it won't be on the level of resident evil 0-3, but I can see this still being a 8 out of 10 game for me so happy to pay £24. It is resident evil at the end of the day, one of my favourite franchises :D
