Retro console and games thread

Managed to pick up this today. Now need to mod it and get sonic 3 and sonic and knuckles.

Zelda, Mario Kart and Pilotwings are complete though only Zelda's box is in good condition. Donkey Kong 1 and 3 (like 2 I got a few weeks ago) are missing trays and manuals sadly but they were a good price and I am really pleased with it all.

Plus my snes collection is about complete for now (covering almost everything I want to play on it for now, just want Fzero for less than 8 quid and I am set for now) :)

Very nice! :)

Following on from my previous Wii post regarding Mario 64, er, yeah I have no idea how my wife managed to download Mario 64 for free. No account has been setup (or Mii) and no card details have been added. The only answer is the console must have remembered what was downloaded previously. Very odd but hey free games! :)

Anywhoo been shopping again:

Gamecube, controller, leads and a copy of Medal of Honour Frontline (excuse the flash), all for £17.99.

The Gamecube is an early model as it has the Digital AV out port.

Also picked up a VITA and a couple of games following Sony's confirmation that the remote play will be enabled on all PS4 games via the VITA. Not retro so won't bother with any pictures.

Got them all from Insane Games.

Which branch did you visit? I've got one in my home town and I've been to the one in Street and I know they have two other stores. Pretty good prices and a good range of retro stuff. The Clevedon store is currently selling off all their second-hand PS3 stuff and putting all the money towards retro stuff that should start to come in by next weekend if you're in the area.

In this case it was the Wells branch - a good suggestion by my wife as they had both items I was specifically looking for. I normally pop into the Street branch from time to time to see what they have (becoming quite expensive at the moment :p).

As you say the prices are pretty good and they stock a good range of new and retro stuff.

I might have to pop to the Clevedon shop if they are doing more retro stuff. Thanks for the heads up. :)

Good work all....some nice new pick ups :). I should have a few to show in next few days....got an absolute bargain if it all turns up in the conditon seller says it is

It's been called the worse game of all time.

The "E.T." Atari game came out shortly after the eponymous Steven Spielberg film in the early 1980s.

District 1 Commissioner Jason Baldwin said he has played the game and admits it was terrible.

Thousands of the games were buried in an Alamogordo landfill under cover of darkness.

The "Atari Graveyard" is a popular urban legend among video game afficianados.

Now a film company will excavate the old landfill, located near the Charlie T. Lee Memorial Relief Route in Alamogordo.

Two new additions to my Snes corner, first up Super R-Type, been after this for a while but I have pretty strict limits on what I am willing to pay so just had to be patient.

Then the next item is a 21" Bush CRT (real flat technology :P), I did have a 32" JVC however it was just too big I really didn't like putting it in either this spare room or the other spare which is a home office, so got rid and today picked up this one which was free to collect :)

You can see the switchless mod at work giving a nice full screen image at 60hz :)

PAL Metroid is wrong in 60Hz though :(. Samus moves too fast, her speed on the PAL one was adjusted to be the same as the NTSC game, but only her, nothing else. So in 60Hz, she is too fast, but world is fine, and in 50Hz she is fine, but world is slow :(.

Same half-assed job Nintendo done on a lot of their titles, Yoshi's island is the same :(.

ntsc :( need to dig out my old regionx disc, i have been playing gta but i haven't got a memory card :(

You came away with a load of controllers and other stuff but couldn't get a memory card.

I still hate that no bootsales happen up this way. I was checking ebay earlier the price for Sonic 3 boxed with instructions and Sonic & Knuckles boxed with instructions is a bit much.

Guys whats the best way to connect a Dreamcast to a modern TV with no scart input? I have heard about VGA boxes but they are damn expensive??

Well this is going to be fun:

I got fed up of the spaghetti monster building behind the little cabinet I am using, so tonight is going to involve sitting on the floor tidying cables and getting cramp (plus the obligatory shouting at the few cables that won't go where I want them to).

I am stupidly anal about this sort of thing (my wife thinks its funny), so no doubt I will get half way through and start again .

On the plus side I have managed to put my (rather small) collection of games into alphabetical order:

I think I am going to get as far as hooking the DC up and playing Fur Fighters... :D
