The BVM-20E1E is a 1000 TVL set from what i can remember. If you can, GET IT, GET IT, GET ITIf you like the sharp scanline look it will look amazing! I would love one.. just can't bring myself to spend the money.
A few things with the BVM. They may need terminators on the BNC RGB pass through output sockets. You might find you get a overly bright picture if you don't use the terminators. I think they need to be 75ohm terminator plugs.
Try and find out how many hours the unit has been used for. This can be found in the service menu, and also if you can check the geometry. On the BVM's Channel 94-99 i think hold test patterns to test colour and geometry etc. If when running a grid test patten check the picture isn't slightly rotated. This means messing with the yoke on the tube.. and that can seriously KILL you if you don't know what your doing. I would look for another set if the picture is rotated. Geometry can be adjusted in the service menu so some issues can be rectified.
Regarding geometry.. be prepared to spend a while setting it up.. it will be worth it in the end. The service manuals are on the net for the sony range of PVM's and BVM.
Right cables and Sync. Basically you have C Sync, (or Raw Sync as it is also know) and Composite Video Sync. Basically Raw sync is the pure sync signal being fed to the sync input on the monitor.
Composite video Sync is the Composite video signal with the Sync signal combined. Usually the Yellow plug on the AV leads. What a Sync Cleaner does is strip the Composite video signal away to leave just the Raw sync signal.
How sync is delivered all depends how the System and Cable are wired up. I think PVM's & BVM's don't need a sync cleaner as its built into the monitor. I've never had and issue with sync so a sync cleaner is not usually need with a PVM.
There is a steep learning curve but when you get your head around things it will become easy and very satisfying when you have a wicked picture!
As i say i'm always willing to help and will try my best to answer and questions.
I hope that has help you understand things a bit more.
I just finished modding my Core GRAFX the other night.
Enjoy your Pc Engine this is my collection, love it. This is my second collection the first i sold then decided it was a bad and idea re-purchased most direct from Japan. My big mistake was selling the Super Grafx 1941 which will now cost me an arm and a leg to replace. Need a few more titles like Hellfire cd and Darius Plus but have been to busy to get it out and set it up.
You must get Devil Crash and Parodius best engine games ever made. This link we help you lists all the games reviews and in-game shots and video.

What's the difference between a super gameboy and super gameboy 2?
Well I just got back from my vacation to Osaka, Japan and while my visit wasn't for game hunting I did manage to grab a few items from a couple of retro stores at prices way lower than eBay.
The shops were amazing, a retro gamers dream. So many nice consoles, Famicom Twins, and Neo AES's everywhere!
Nintendo Pickups:

Some Sega Dreamcast love, including a limited edition Mega Drive themed VMU:

Japan only blu-ray releases of Resident Evil and Darkstalkers. I hate digital only games so I was happy to find these, black label too:

Some Rockman World 5 in its SBG Glory

Sadly there weren't any arcade PCB shops about so no MVS games for me this time.
Really pleased this morning. A couple of weeks ago I won an ebay job lot of 'electrical items' for £6. Along with a load of other non-gaming bits and pieces, I spotted a Game Gear in the pictures along with a Micro Machines 2 cart.
When I picked it up it was clearly in a bad condition after being left in a garage for many years. It wouldn't turn on from batteries, and instantly turned itself off when trying it with a Mega Drive power supply.
With a soldering iron in one hand and a fistful of capacitors in the other I spend a couple of evenings doing a full cap replacement on the mainboard and the power sub-board. At least half the original capacitors were bad and stunk of fish when removed. But eventually it sparked back into life!
After getting it up and running I found that there was no sound from the main speaker, and only a really quiet sound from the headphones in the right ear only. I've just spent the morning replacing the capacitors on the sound sub-board and reassembling it. Voilà! One Game Gear brought back from the dead!
Started to buy games in prep of the retron 5 but it doesn't look like its coming out so I'm bought this off the bay
unfortunately it doesn't work with my snes must be something to do with Nintendo's RGB thing with it but my mega drive?
Always had problems getting my retron stuff working on my TV's at least now I can enjoy some mega drive action
Now what game to play first?!?!
Picture doesn't look too bad with that device. How does sonic look, being a fast paced game?
Dug out my old megadrive and SNES games from the loft. Not really a keen collector so I am going to try and shift this lot. Does anyone know the best way to value the games?
