Retro console and games thread

Haha, no problem, I thought I had spelt the name wrong. I gather your referring to "the"! I noticed when I search that's not what its called.

Learn something every day, Always just called it that since I was young!

Now if I owned the game maybe I would have known this. Sounds like another reason to getg collecting.

Haha yeah sorry. Pet peeve, I think most people call him "the Kid".

Miracle World (the Mastersystem pack-in) is probably the best one to be fair, reasonably scarce on actual cartridge though. The megadrive one is OK, nice chunky graphics. Never really got into the other MS ones but I do see them pop up now and again.

What's the unboxed game with the space craft on it. My first ever go on the Megadrive was a Japanese one and it was definitely a scrolling space shooter. I seem to remember it not being available for the UK Megadrive, or at least I didn't see it.

Managed to win a Bang & Oulfsen TV yesterday. Hopefully pick it up this week and start with getting myself a Megadrive.

Nice one. Get yourself an RGB SCART for it (retrogamingcables do good ones) and remember model 1 and 2 have different connections.

It'll be an original Megadrive that I get.

It's s definte regret selling my consoles over the years. But when you've got to sell your current console to part fund buying the next generation it seems like the best thing to do at the time. It's only later when you can afford it, that the regret sets in.

It's Called Slap Fight MD. Only ever released in Japan. That one is a repoduction. An original version off Yahoo Japan fetches over £200 easy! Its a great game mind and Yuzo Koshiro does the arrange music for the MD mode.

Make sure is is the one with "HIGH DEFINITION GRAPHICS" on the ring around the Cart Slot. Has the sony encoder and original yamaha sound chip in.

Thanks.

Is only on the Genesis or UK Pal ones as well?

It's wasn't the game I first played on the Megadrive.

Remember renting this once and not getting anyway, tonight I managed to get up to lvl 3. :p

Funny thing is that it won't run at 60hz, says it's only for PAL/French consoles. :o

Just been looking through this thread of all the stuff ive found and posted in the past some gold there, nowadays im lucky to see a playstation 1 game in a charity shop, so much harder now

For any one interested i did a little comparison of a new Sony PVM i picked up today against my JVC. It cost me £35 which i'm happy with. Its the most i have spent on a display (yes i like to do things on the cheap!)

Scanlines are really nice and thick. Ever so slightly thicker than the JVC but not much given the JVC is 750 lines and the m4e is 800. The JVC stomps the Sony for geometry. One thing i hate about PVM's is the tweaking you need to do in the service menu. I've only spent a small time with the 4e but i need to put some time to getting the geo tweaked more. In comparison the JVC took me 5 mins to set up, center and re-size the screen and done. I think i slightly prefer the colours on the JVC, but to be fair i haven't given the Sony any time. I prefer the screen glass on the Sony as it's only a horizontal curve unlike the JVC which has Hori/Vert curving of the glass.

Overall i'm pleased with my Screens now. 3 Screens 14" PVM 14m2e. 20" PVM 20m4e and my JVC 20". All three screens cost me a total sum of £46! Bargain!

Collected a Bang & Oulfsen Beovision MX 4002 last week, £33 including the Beo4 remote. Really please with it.

Only hooked up the PS1 so far, but it's so much better than an LCD TV.

Managed to win a Megadrive, which should be here today or tomorrow. It's the one with the HD graphics writing on the cartridge port. Also have an RGB Scart cable ready and waiting as well from the website you recommended.

I did manage to remember the name of first ever game I played on the Megadrive. It was Thunder Force 2. So I'm on the look out for it now.

Looks like your going to be set up then my friend. Welcome back to club Mega Drive :D Time to start enjoying the awesome library.

Thunder force 2 is a great game. All the Thunder force games are great. Rocking soundtrack aswell! If your into shooters Thruxton/Tatsujin is a great Toaplan vertical shooter which is quite a test of the skill. Empire of Steel is an interesting on also. What genre of game do you prefer?

Congrats on the B&O. One of the best consumer sets available. I'm sure they do some nice tricks with interlaced pictures aswell! You got it for a great price as well. I'm sure the remotes can be quite expensive!

I set my PVM up now and am happy with the picture. It really is stunning. I think this is my last screen now mind seeing as i have 3 of the things! Few pics of the quality!

Most of the games I played on the MD were platformers, shumps and driving plus the odd sports game, mainly Madden and NHL.

The driving games on retro systems don't really appeal to me as I feel it's a genre that doesn't age well. But good shumps and platform games never age really. I was playing Rayman on the PS1 last night and it's still as good as I remember and just as hard.

Once my Obutto Revolution arrives, to replace my rather large desk, I can make some room in the mancave for the new TV, retro consoles and games.
