Retro console and games thread

The great thing with Mega Drive games is the plastic clam shells they come in. Loads of sports games you can get for dirt cheap just to use the cases.

I did this for 3 games. I printed out the inlay covers for them. Looks pretty good IMHO. Eliminate Down and Slap Fight were never released in the West, but someone did some PAL style covers for them.

Got all my Screens together for a family portrait lol. Done with buying screens now. These 3 are all great and cover my CRT obsession!

Where the hell do you stick all of these man!

Hahaha, The Big Sony now sits in my Retro Room. The JVC sits upstairs and the little sony sits on my little mobile retro centre. all 3 cost me a total of £46.

I've tried to play my consoles on modern LCD's but i just can't get on with them.

Sadly, my SNES expired today.
The smoke escaped. :( Right in the middle of a game of Unirally.

Pulling it apart after the F1 tomorrow to see if it's a repair or a bin job.

I made 2 purchases from America last night, worthy additions to my SNES collection, my wallet is less enthralled about the whole thing though.

2 new Mega Drive games turned up this week.

Never played either back in the day and both great platformers.

My upscaler also turned up, with mixed results.

My SNES works fine at 60hz, don't like it at 720p or 1080p though, for some reason my TV doesn't give me an option to change the aspect ration to 4:3. So while the pictures fine, it's stretched.
Is has an option to run it at 1024x768, which does the job, but as a result gives me less options to control colour etc.

Does not like the Mega Drive at 60hz though, some games work, some do weird things. Sonic works fine at 60hz when plugged straight into my TV, though the upscaler, it goes a bit nutty and flashy...

The Mega Drive has really fussy Sync signals. I modded my Mega Drive to use raw sync instead of composite video sync. Eliminates the Jail bars as well.

My MasterSystem 1 has awful jailbars on my lcd using a retro gaming cables rgb scart :( don't suppose you know a fix for it by any chance.

I'm not sure on the master system mate, but i think it would not be much different to the MD as i think they use the same video encoder.

Oh? Do tell.

On the Mega Drive, i had to remove one small resistor to disable composite video. You can also achieve this by cutting Pin 11 on the video encoder but i find it would be easier to replace a resistor if i wanted to reverse the mod. With this mod you limit the console to only output RGB as your disabling Composite video to reduce the Jailbars.

MMMonkey does a good write up for the Comp Sync mod.

Holy hell!

How much that set you back? Been after it for ages, but the prices for just the cart alone on Ebay are bit out of my budget range at the moment.

Never even played it on an emulator, shame I can't read Japanese, because they practically giving away that version. :p

american jap version of Chrono Trigger are not bad priced quite cheap. if its a pal version you going for though then its a different matter :p

So my little £1.50 vga to Component adaptor arrived today. Now have 480p ps2 on my 42" screen :)

Has anyone ever used the joytech control centre units. Looking quite tempting to manage the retro consoles :)

Both great fun, though I haven't played the MD version of Mickey I suppose it'll be fairly similar. I used to own the MCD version at release and now own only the PlayStation version (Mickey's Wild Adventure).

How many of you lot are aware of www.arcade-club.com in Haslingden? Was there about a couple of weeks ago and its truly epic.

Outrun sit-down with pneumatic seat and an Afterburner cockpit just to name 2 of the 100 or so machines they have there.

Aware of the arcade as I listen to the ten pence podcast.

I had no idea they were open to the public on a turn up basis though. Top man pike, I thinks ill be outrunning the traffic on the m6 on Saturday afternoon.

Having seen the massive disappointment that is the arcade museum in my home town, this is great news.... all that place is, is a ******* hipster joint for 20 somethings, represents very little of the past.
