Just in the process of finishing one off, cocktail cabinet inspired. Following which I'd like to do a small bar top over winter and then a kids sized cabinet for my lad next year.I'm considering building an arcade MAME cabinet.
Anyone else already done it? Advice and recommendations welcomed.
There are plenty of plans online and a few places that sell flat pack cabinets. If I can find and empty original cabinet then I'd consider that too. Don't know where to look really. Ebay and Gumtree are a bit sparse and very pricey. Probably cheaper to buy some MDF and get the saw out.
I'll probably use an IPAC 2 kit for the controls, it looks straight forward enough to wire up, no soldering required with wiring kits. Plus it's already configure for standard MAME controls. I'm not sure if it's worth branded Joysticks and buttons, or buying a full 2 player kit from Arcade World UK.
See how further research goes.
Expect that budget to increase significantly, just some of the considerations:-I think 3 sheets of MDF will cover most of it which is around £50. Any other timber I can source for free. Then just some Perspex and paint, so probably less than £100 to build my own cabinet.
Expect that budget to increase significantly, just some of the considerations:-
Filler(s)
Primer
Various grit sandpapers
Glue
Screws
Brackets
Wheels (if building full sized, otherwise a nightmare to move)
Electrical's (sockets, cables, fittings, cooling fans, marquee lights)
T-molding
and then the tools if you don't have them (a router makes it so much easier)
I'm not saying it can't be done cheaply but I've found it to be not the cheapest of hobbies.
What sort of cabinet are you after, full-sized, bartop, mini?
Yeah you should lol
It does get a bit addictive I admit. But I don't drink or smoke so this is my thing
Didnt know CT got a PAL release.
