Retro console and games thread

I was torn at one time between the Neo Geo AES and MVS. Then I thought

Metal Slug
AES £1200
MVS £30

Choice was made MVS a Legit copy of the game and I could aford to collect for the system. When you own the orginal hardware you see all the bits that don't seem right when emulated.

I was amazed at the audio clarity when playing on original hardware. I assume this is due to MVS and AES having two boards in the game cartridge one dealing with Graphics & game and the other dealing with audio.

You have to have been a gamer in the 80s and 90s to appreciate the quality of the System.

I'm liking the look of the Japanese MVS Cherry cabinets as I'd been more likely get one of the candy style cabs in my house. The European cabinet was a blinking monster. lol

Yep have thought about the MVS route but not really sure how it all works...but seeing the prices of even consoles now makes me want to whince...

mate seen a aes system other week on a bootsale with quite a few games was 50 quid  :(

a lot of people who had them do save them cause of how much they were originally and the games. they wernt really common .

At half past three I was just going to go out when my door was buzzed.

A tenner this cost me and £4 postage. It doesn't have to cost the earth. :D I could tell straight away it wasn't a bootleg as the casing of the cartridge is transparent allowing me to see the chips and the boards inside.

Read through the whole thread the other day, some impressive stuff. :)

I'm looking to get my hands on a copy of The Legend of Zelda (ideally in good condition); where is the best place to look for one and how much should I expect to pay for it? Kind of new to this buying retro thing. Last thing I bought was a Mega Drive (will get some pics up soon!). :)

Really? I just had a quick look on eBay and there's one on there going for £90 :o

Seem to be a lot of Zelda IIs at a reasonable-looking price though. Thanks. :)

At a car boot sale maybe, you've got no chance on ebay these days.

i used to buy and sell retro console games for a living :p

a used zelda no box player should be 6-8 quid

a used zelda in box with instructions tatty 10-15
a used zelda decentish condition boxed 20

there not uncommon .

problem with retro stuff and buying to play is people often pay too much for those items. a lot of ebay stuff like buy it now stuff is dream material or one off hopes.

if you after good snes megadrive or in general bargins buy a big lot from say usa ;) shipping isnt that bad and theres a lot of decent stuff.

Yeah, the people selling on UK eBay these days (and even on the US eBay) are taking the **** with the prices because people keep bidding up to stupid amounts for common games or people are putting a high price on a fairly common game because the game's good and everyone else just follows the trend making the game that price. Games like Super Mario RPG and FF3 (6) come to mind, just look at how many there are on the US eBay site yet they still usually go for more than a brand new AAA game.

It's become popular to collect retro video games thanks to a lot of retro game collectors/players on sites like Youtube. A few years ago you'd never see so many people bidding on retro NES/SNES games.

i am desperate for cart only copy of mario kart 64....opened it earlier only to find the chap i lent it to few years bk just gave me box bk!!! no idea where he is now.....mortified!

just watched a boxed snes go for over 200 quid on the bay as it wasnt yellowed lol.....surely thats part of the charm of an old snes!!

Here is my very basic setup using a vogatek Supergun, MVS 1 slot board with the controller ports using a neo geo stick and a standard PC ATX PSU in a cheap box. A very simple setup but it works great :)

Ive got about 10 games including Metal Slug X which I do enjoy playing and I am looking to get the other metal slugs when funds allow.

Also I have a AES system which I picked up with 2 games and stick for £110 20 months ago, which is below and I have about 8 games for it

And last but no least as I thought it would be an idea to get some games cheap to play my Neo Geo CD which I have about 10 games for

To be honest, I bought it cause I alwways wanted one, but I think the MVS is definately the cheaper choice as the price of the games on AES to MVS is rather quite ridiculous, but I got a few good games for it but my MVS is used the most :)
