Retro console and games thread

I used to love playing this on my P200Mhz/Voodoo Banshee back in the day. Sadly all my 1990s PC games got chucked out years ago but I was lucky enough to get this boxed and complete in mint condition for around 12 quid delivered on eBay not long ago, the disc hasn't got a mark on it and the manual looks unused

I miss the awesome packaging of older games now you don't even get a manual not to mention that half the game is DLC!!!!

Both 1 and 2 did. Had them both on PC after selling my N64 versions. I'm sure one of them was bundled with my 3DFX card.

I did manage to get it running successfully on Windows 8.1 as well, there is a fan patch online you need to install and then run it through glide wrapper ;)

A couple of recent pickups, a minty condition NTSC SNES Starfox CIB and the 2013 Dreamcast release of Sturmwind (yes a new DC game in 2013!!!!)

fun fact: Did you know that Turok 2 on the N64 benefitted from higher resolutions with the RAM pack installed?!

I had no idea until recently that the RAM pack actually benefitted so many other games, I thought it was simply Donkey Kong 64 it was needed for and that was that.

I remember playing Turok 2 with the RAM pack, but didn't the FPS suffer for the higher res, I seem to remember the game wasn't as smooth.

I think the draw distance increased also, without the ram pack it seemed much foggier.

Yes I think you're right they used more fog without it.

After seeing the page of games which made use of the RAM pack I was astonished that I didn't know about them at the time. The geek in me would have bought or rented some of those games just to compare with and without the RAM pack :D

Yep, that was one of the reasons I brought it. I only had DK64, Majora's Mask and Perfect Dark which took advantage. I'm sure South Park did too when my friend lent it to me.

Wow, would love to play it again but i'm guessing it propably won't run on today's PC's. I thought it was a N64 exclusive too.

It does run :) I was playing it under windows 8.1. There is a fan patch you need to install and tweak a few things here and there. Turok 2 is an awesome game, even better on PC.

My make shift container for the HxC using a plastic package which used to have an 60GB EVO SSD drive ;). Granted it's not the best but it will keep it from being damaged or scratched on the table

Sweet, does it work with the mouse controls to look around or would I have to use the up/down/left/right like the old Duke Nukem 3D controls?

Mouse and everything although you need to manually configure a lot of keys to make it playable. It took me a while to get the patch working but most old PC games take some fiddling to work on modern OS's.
