Return to 'The Troubles'?

Oh, hard working industrious young males by night, riotous idiots come late evening. Speaking from experience are we?

I would love to know how you could work night shift and also be rioting at the same time? And no I have never partook in any "riots" before.

Well what were you trying to say then? You would only need the night off if you were working night shift. You realise the the protests are scheduled from 3/4/5PM onwards, that's when most people would tend to be working.

That's good you haven't been involved in any rioting, well done.

It has troubled me meeting unionists who have swept under the carpet all loyalist paramilitary activity. To a point of out right denial of UVF activity post 1914. Such a weird interpretation of being British.

Where as I've had kinda the opposite, union flag waving Rangers supporters* who worship 'Billy' and revel in UVF/Orange/"British"** history and activity.

I think these are the two alternatives of the same extreme end of the spectrum.

Oh yeah, don't forget "NO SURRENDER".

The violence is nothing to do with the protests. The rioting happens after. It starts about 8pm and goes on long into the night.

Also the protests are mostly between 5 and 8

As someone that comes from N.Ireland and seen a few of these protests 1st hand I think it is an absolute disgrace the way the protesters are behaving.

Any potential investors watching the news will be looking elsewhere and it has cost the NI economy millions, that's not including the future loss in tourism that we will suffer.

Either way it was a democratic decision to remove the flag. I have always wondered why we dont just hang both flags together and get it over and done with. If that's not a sign of unity I dont know what is.

I suggest many of you take a look at this video and see if this current activity is all because of the flag...

Latterly just don't live there. Painting giant union flags on peoples walls and putting up other "British" nonsense (very unBritish by the way) is just asking for trouble.

Anyone with an ounce of common sense wouldn't live there, let alone bring up kids there.

He needs a pat on the back and a round of applause! :D

Oh god luckily they weren't allowed into uni so I only saw them from a distance... Both are a nightmare to deal with, especially when there is no polite way to disagree with them and get away quickly.

Well when you accused me of being, what else do you want?

I'm not condoning what the residents of these streets have experienced.

However, that Street is off the Albert Bridge Road which is Loyalist it skirts a Nationalist area. Across the road there is Perry Court, they have the same barriers in place to stop stone throwing from the Loyalists who front them. Don't throw up videos thinking you can justify anything that goes on there, you can't.

Idiots attacking idiots.

Because the DUP will use it to claim that Unionists are further being sold out to Ireland with the Tricolour flying alongside the Union Jack. More political point scoring for seats they lost to the Alliance (which the Alliance party are going to lose after this whole mess anyway).

As I posted earlier in the thread, politicians here are busy playing communities off each other. It's ridiculous. Instead of fixing social problems, they're causing them by pulling flag stunts, whether it's calling for them to fly all the time, or take them down altogether.

1. Why should any one be forced to move from their home due to their religion or beliefs?

2. He accused me of being so lets not all act like I out of the blue proclaimed this.

On the other side of the wall is a credit union.... Are you saying loyalists gather in Cullen Place to attack the credit union?

On a serious note what is your opinion on flying the two flags together? I think it would be great tbh and is the only real solution to the flag debate.

I don't think they should be flown together. I don't see why we should fly the flag of a foreign nation from our own building. And flying the tricolour opens up a whole can of worms that can be exploited by politicians.

One could argue that we should return to the Ulster banner. But the Ulster banner was used at a time when the Northern Ireland government was oppressive to catholics in the country. So that's not a good idea either. The banner ceased to be the national flag when the government was devolved back to London. People forget that the reason the English devolved power again was to try and make the country fairer because of the bias of the government in Northern Ireland and the bias of the police. The reason the army were brought onto the streets was to protect catholics from loyalist / protestant attacks and the army were welcomed at first by that community. But that quickly turned sour with various things that happened because of their getting involved with the IRA.

What are you rambling about?...... I watched the video, it was heart warming as far as political propaganda can be.

I have also lived but a 5 minute walk from Cullen Place, I lived further into the blue area. But if you read my post none of that would matter because you know I wasn't supporting the attacks.

Good night, I have work early tomorrow.

I dont even know how you cant clearly see what im talking about.

You see that's why this country is in the position it is in. People like you seem oblivious to the fact that a lot of people in N.Ireland see the union flag as the flag of a foreign nation, the same people calling to unite Ireland as it once was before the British invaded.

There is going to have to be give and take on both sides.

But its not 50/50? All Catholics are not nationalist.

Can't please an Englishman. You're either too British or not British enough. STOP BEING SO BRITISH! LEARN OUR LANGUAGE IF YOU WANT TO BE IN THIS COUNTRY! :p

Nope we are never pleased :p

Learn our language (non of this craic and AYE that I have no idea if its a response or just being polite) and none of this public patriotism, no one likes that. :p :D

1. Why should any one be forced to move from their home due to their religion or beliefs?

Because they paint there walls with that nonsense and get very uppity about how they live in Britain...

It is fair to say no one should be forced to move because of their religion or their beliefs, but it is not fair to defend them when they are just making it so difficult for them selves. It looks such a nasty place to live, why raise kids there when there is loyalist junk everywhere that attracts this rubbish.

It's a kin to someone saying "I want to stay in my home" despite it falling off a cliff. There is no positive reason to stay living there, only negative reasons. So by living there they are making the negatives a part of their identity and quite frankly are bringing on the abuse. Might as well be dressed up as the KKK and walk through Croydon (note couldn't think of anywhere more ghetto, replace Croydon with somewhere more ghetto if you think of anywhere/like Croydon).
