Good advice, I'm having to be patient although it's difficult at times.
I'm slightly in the opposite situation though, I impulse bought the rift which is still boxed up as I'm awaiting Graphic cards to return to a sensible price.
Was thinking a second hand 970 as these can be had for about £130 but I've noticed 1060 prices are returning to around £200 new so that may be the better option.
Going to be patient though as I hadn't accounted for purchasing a rift this month, let alone a new card on top.
If they've sent your Touch controller separately, you'll either get the original Rift box with the XBox controller, or you'll get the new box which would actually give you some spare Touch controllers and therefore a 3rd sensor. So, it's pretty much win-win either wayI cancelled my orders at Oculus and another store. Instead I used a German version of a popular UK online retailer and they have sent the touch out already and the rift is set to be dispatched on Monday. Ive been informed it may be the xbox controller version.
My touch controller set just arrived
*goes to check Rift order status on website...
Order Status : Not yet dispatched
FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!!!!!!!!
Did you get your controllers yet? I take it you mean the german site of the place i got mine from.Ive been thinking about it a bit and when i checked out for my order the delivery options were for Prime expidited del as well as standard and nominated day.Makes me wonder if mine is coming from the Deutschland warehouse as well.I cancelled my orders at Oculus and another store. When i checked earlier today my rift status had changed to dispatching now but later changed back to not yet dispatched.
I must admit, being a vr noob myself, that this is something i've wondered about. I'm pretty sure that there is a thing that works the other way round though that makes oculus games work on the vive. This has probably been asked a million times, but can you get the Oculus to work with steam games that only have the Vive support? and is it much faffing if you can?
There seems to be a lot more games for the Vive and I don't really want another store app so will end up just staying on steam, so i've been waiting for it to come down in price, but it's not looking likely at the moment.
There really isn't such a thing as a Vive only game. Vive uses SteamVR, and the Rift works with SteamVR. The problems you might run into are hands/controllers not lining up with the Touch controllers if the developer has only used Vive to develop on, or button mapping that isn't particularly ideal (a lot of Vive games don't use the grip button to actually grip things, given that is notoriously poor, so you'll find a lot of games use the trigger to pick things up instead).I must admit, being a vr noob myself, that this is something i've wondered about. Did you disable the two SteamVR reprojection options? If not, do so. Leaving them on has been known to interfere with the Rift driver doing ATW/ASW, thereby causing slowdowns.I find the performance from Steam stuff a little lacking sometimes, could really do without SteamVR itself (which offers an environment like Oculus Home) - with Oculus Home, SteamVR and then a game or experience running I find I need to reboot every now and then (or at the very least stop all the programs and restart the services, Oculus Tray Tool is useful for that) to get performance back to acceptable levels.
