Rift £200 off

Yup mine shipped too, trying to keep hype levels low so I don't get disappointed.
Best way to approach it. Keep in mind this is a gen 1 consumer headset, so just don't expect the Matrix, or anywhere close ;) Saying that, I've been playing VR stuff for the past 4 years now, and even with all the current limitations, I'm in no way bored of it yet :D

Also, post your thoughts after you've tried it. I never get bored of reading that sort of thing!

Mine is almost ready now too.

Got a 980 now set up.
Got a spare usb 3 card too.

So close to being up and running, but then got caught out that my 980 has a mini hdmi socket so have had to buy an adapter, also my 980 covered my Pci e slot so the usb 3 card didn't fit. Bought an adapter for that too.

Just waiting for them both to turn up, hoping they come over the weekend so I will finally have my rift set up.

After going through all this, I just hope I don't suffer from the motion sickness too much. I struggle to play First person shooters due to motion sickness so I'm a bit concerned that VR won't be for me.

Just don't jump straight into anything with artificial locomotion. To begin with, if you stay with games that only teleport (or are stationary) then you'll have a great time (Robo Recall, Dead and Buried etc). It might be tempting to try something like the Alien Isolation mod, but don't. Stay with the teleport stuff and get used to VR.

Once you know VR by itself won't make you feel ill, then maybe try something with artificial locomotion, and if you feel dodgy then stop the moment you do. From my own experience with demoing my Rift though, just because one game with smooth movement might make you feel ill, it doesn't mean all other games like that will. It's an odd thing, but the subtle differences between the way different games handle smooth/artificial movement can have radically different effects on the same person.

Good Morning All, Well early this morning I ordered the Rift Bundle from O'Clockers and if all goes well should have it my possession sometime Sat. Will not be using it until early Sept as we have family coming over from Germany for a week and then we are off on hols, until then I will keep using my Samsung Gear VR2 which is excellant and I'm very happy with it. Looking forward to using the Rift and at that price its a bargin.

Good to hear you finally got it sorted :) If I can make a suggestion though - one of the best things you can do with VR is show it to other people. Even if you stick to the First Contact and Dreamdeck demos (they're auto-installed with the Oculus Home software), show those to your family, and they won't soon forget it!

Am very tempted to cancel my order direct with Oculus and get it from here now.

Emailed them and got a standard 'We hear you are looking into the whereabouts of your order. Please give us some time to investigate this' canned reply.

Think I will give it until monday and see where I am then....

Yeah your order has been shipped, got one after spending 12 days on the Oculus website, should be taking delivery sometime tommorrow, will have a look but leave the setting up until Sept because of other commitments. I am 65 and have been waiting a long time for a Rift as they were a lot pricier than they are now. As I have said before I have been using a Samsung Gear VR 2 with no problems and love it.

Took the plunge and ordered one from here last night, getting delivered tomorrow. Getting quite excited now. Just installing Project Cars and Assetto Corsa to get prepared.

Just take it easy with your first experiences - Assetto and Project Cars can be really intense. Just a heads up as well. Only Project Cars has full menu integration, which makes things much easier. With AC, you have to navigate the front end menu via your monitor, which can end up being a PITA (and pretty much stopped me playing it tbh).

Thanks for the advice. I am a little worried about motion sickness but the second I start to feel ill I'll just take a break until I feel better. I'll probably just stick to Project Cars at the start then. I just prefer the FFB on AC so that's a shame.

Thats what I thought too:(
Only tried to float in mission isis? and am still a bit queasy an hour later
Good fun though, only set it all up this afternoon:D

Assetto Corsa all the way :) The good people of Oculus have left a slot for peeking out of the headset (near your nose). I have no problem navigating menus in AC without taking off the VR headset. Try it, it becomes such a minor nuisance that I personally have completely forgotten about it by now. AC is a-ma-zing in VR btw :D Runs well too - maxxed out at near constant 90fps on my system.

But best spend no more than a few minutes in driving games in VR to begin with. Give it a week of slow accommodation and you'll be good for an hour+. In couple of weeks, you should be completely immune to VR sickness - provided you "train" daily of course. Make sure you run at 90fps though, use ctrl+1 to turn off ATW off.

I use lens inserts so I don't have to wear glasses so peeking through the nose game enables me to see nothing on my monitor except a blur unfortunately. Even when I did use my glasses with the Rift, I'd still be peeking below my lenses, and taking a Rift on and off just to look at the monitor for a moment is a total PITA given how snug glasses fit into the Rift.

Hm...

I wear glasses too actually, quite large ones Chris Evans style haha, they cover my forward filed of view just about enough... But yeah, with lens inserts the peeking trick wouldn't work.

I've tried Oculus's free Bigscreen app (that renders your desktop in VR) and it launches AC fine, but crashes after exiting the race... Hm, will experiment some more tomorrow.

Thank you, I shall attempt this and then move on to artificial locomotion when I've got my VR legs, I really want to try Alien Isolation and I'm looking forward to Resident Evil 7 next year but I'll talk it sloooowly to begin with.

Hi, The Rift has arrived but so have my visitors from Germany so I had a quick look inside the box and boy am I impressed. My family is here for a week so will be doing nothing with the rift but have downloaded the software ready to go next Saturday.

Think I'll be putting my Rift and Touch bundles up on the Bay in a couple weeks.
Gonna be a busy time so sell up and get them again in the new year sometime.

Got a couple of hours to myself so I have set the Rift up and with no problems. I am really impressed with it and its much much better than the Samsung Gear VR 2. Everything is so clear and have done the robot thing first and everything looks real and he tells you off if you do the wrong thing. Will hopefully spend about 20mins each day to get used to it. The only thing is I cannot change the background in the first screen? and how do I get into the main settings ie, sound etc using the controller?. If anyone is thinking of getting the Rift and can afford it then go for it. I have lots of things I want to try out but I will take my time until I get used to it. Many thanks.
