Has he done a Chris Benoit and lost the plot perhaps (seems unlikely given his age) ? Maybe his wife died naturally and then couldn’t care for him ? Maybe she died and he just thought screw it and killed himself ? Dog in the cupboard is pretty random though

I always assumed people like this had staff, so it's quite surprising. If true, it's a sad end.

There seems to be this urge of a lot of organisations these days to rush to say something online.

We don't need to speculate on what happened until the police have done their investigation, at least.

Well, it's very odd.
Not helped by the fact that the authorities didn't seem to notice anything wrong for some time.
The press are quick to dismiss toxic air, but the air would have cleared by now. And it could be why the front door was open - they were trying to clear the air.

It depends, gas leak, carbon monoxide, the wife becoming ill and hackman not being able to call for help...

there are a bunch of ways it happens, especially if the dead dog was in a room with no water either put in there deliberately to get it out of the way for a while, or because the door closed and latched on it's own/after being knocked.
Basically if Arakawa was looking after Hackman and became ill/died it would certainly not be the first time if the that someone relying on a carer has died as well and having seen how fast someone can go downhill from something like a water infection without realising it, it's very believable (my dad went from normal to unable to stand in about 6 hours, if I hadn't been around/checking on him every couple of hours he'd likely have died and he is younger than Hackman).

Yeah and when they say closet, we're talking a closet in a multi-millionaires mansion in the US, so they're idea of a closet might be slightly different to ours.
