It's my first day off from revision/dissertating tomorrow, and it's just dawned on me that, lower back pain aside, my range is very likely to be limited by the fact I can only carry 1.6L of drink with me.
Same here.
In an event I can usually make it 60 miles before I need to stop at the last feed station to top up both bottles.
If I'm on a training ride then I just pop into a Tesco Express and buy a couple of Lucozade drinks.

Simples :)

First time using my garmin in anger today - did an approx. 85 miler.
Not particularly impressive stats but I'll post it anyway! :p

Nice route, i cycle round that neck of the woods pretty often. Its a great area and relatively traffic free for the most part. Came off once on the corner at Ogle ( dont ask ) much to the amusement of some guy washing his car and to my mate, ended up by the sign in the flower bed :D

On the subject of Garmins, I took mine (eTrex Legend HCx) for a short whirl today. Went a couple of miles out of town and then told it to navigate back to my house - worked flawlessly!

Bit annoyed that I haven't had time to go out on a longer ride this weekend, but I've got so much going on right now that I just don't have the time :(

Cheers fellas.

Yeah, I'm doing the Cyclone.

Got a charity ride in 3 weeks first - London to Newcastle via Manchester over 5 days (80 miles a day) but that'll be relatively slow compared to the pace I'll be aiming for in the Cyclone.

Did the SWRC May Flyer this morning, but only had enough brownie points to do the short route. 90km in 3hrs 10 including with a couple of short stiff climbs. Unfortunately I had an unscheduled deflation on the final descent after I'd just skinned a group on the way down.

Signing wasn't brilliant and I think a few people got lost; I certainly overtook some people twice without them ever overtaking me.....

Conditions were filthy and it was a bit windy but a good day out.

Good luck for your London to Newcastle ride.

Are you riding the Cyclone on your own? If so, I'll ride it with you if you're doing the 60 mile route.

Take some cash, stop at pubs along the way, win win!

I haven't fitted the lock bracket to the frame so I'd have to take a bag in order to take the lock out riding - but if I was taking a bag I might as well just take extra bottles in that. Do you not find shop/pub owners mind people walking in with clipless shoes?

Anyway, I did 50 miles today. MyTracks failed to record parts - actual average speed 17.6 mph.

I'd have liked to have gone further but I'm still working on the bike fit; dropped the saddle slightly and moved it forward before going and that seems to have solved the back problem, so with the saddle position right I just need to upgrade the saddle itself (it's the stock Verenti Kilmeston one, which is not great). I ordered one of these when I got back (so many of Wiggle's products are out of stock right now, but through the fact it's clearance I seem to be getting something that would otherwise outside of my budget!): http://www.wiggle.co.uk/selle-italia-prolink-light-gel-flow-saddle/

I got my week off to a fantastic start this morning by having a clipless moment at a set of traffic lights. Fortunately I didn't fall into a car and the traffic wasn't moving, so it could have been a lot worse. My left knee is pretty badly grazed and it's throbbing like crazy, and I've scratched my handlebar.

I seem to have managed to lose one of the bolts that holds the cleat onto the bottom of the shoe, does anybody know if it's possible to buy spares?

Exact same thing happened to me halfway through an 80 miler last weekend. No idea where it could have come off nor why (which is somewhat worrying). Popped into a LBS, and asked if they had a spare bolt and washer (square for Look cleats so hard to obtain). They didn't, but broke open a packet and gave them to me - and wouldn't take money when I offered to pay for the packet :).

Get an under saddle drinks holder?

It looks as though you get a set of bolts when you buy replacement cleats. While I'm not especially keen on buying another set so soon I might have to, as I could do without the cleat falling off...

What thread do the cleats have on them? If they are M6 you should be able to use anything. Saundie, I would have though the guy in Deen's Garage would have some spares. He seems to have most stuff unless it's well long-obsolete when I go in there.

In my news I'm in a bit of a state at the moment. I took a serious hit from a virus and an infection last week, so I've lost 1/2 stone and my legs are week and thin. This has really set me back with my running and cycling and I'm basically back to square 1. As I'm getting my health back I'm trying to stuff in as many calories as I can, but it's hard work and any (very light) exercise is leaving me dizzy and shaky. I'm hoping this will subside asap because, as much as I'd like to get back to work, I'm currently unable to do my commute. It's also 6 weeks to the London to Brighton, which might mean I'll have to re-assess my heroic plan of doing it on my single-speed.
