In other news, now the days are getting shorter, apparently: 40% off Lezyne Lights at Cycle Surgery with the code '40LEZ'

Hmm, Power Drive XL for £30... hard to resist.

^ That isn't quite my idea of 'elegant' lol.

Really?Assos do some as well. Well, I assume that's where this picture is from....

Right, I'm going to have a go at mixing my own energy drinks - going to pick up some fructose, maltodextrin, caffeine and electrolytes. I've been looking at prices on my protein. Can anyone recommend anywhere cheaper?

up to 50 i guess, depends on a lot of things, id love somethin warm enough to wear for the first months when temps drop to around 5-10c.

il do a bit more next time, and a bit further the time after that etc, just need to get used to riding a bike after 20+ years.. there not as comfy as they used to be, i didnt want to get home and feel that id just got back from a party at Barrymore's..

:D 20 years is quite a break!

Decathlon do one for £10.

Alternatively, you can remortgage your house and get one from Rapha.

As Asprilla said... budget?

I've seen that and it does look alright for this weather tbh.

I went with a disc brake specific rack on my bike as I wasn't sure if I'd have clearance, though it looks as though it'd fit on a bike with standard brakes as well; http://www.topeak.com/products/racks/supertouristdxtubularrack_disc

I was going to recommend the bike that I have, the Pinnacle Arkose, but they're low on stock in most sizes.

yeah i've been looking at that and it looks good, fitting mudguards shouldn't be a problem either.

What's wrong with the 872? It reviews well...

nothing but as a all-year-round commuter its not the best choice IMO, he wants a pannier rack + mudguards, can 872 fit them?

10miles? why dont you push for a bit more?

no point cycling home again after reaching my work place lol, i didn't mean it in that way but 3.5 miles IMO is just a warm up isn't it.

What size are you? I have a dhb Southsea jacket in large that you're welcome to have if you'll cover the postage cost. It doesn't look like a cycling jacket, so it could be right up your alley ;)

s-m  as long as it works with my jeans aye ;)

Urgh, there's a thought, cycling in jeans in the rain.

Hideous.

hideous? not so much.. uncomfortable yes very

There are a number of elegant solutions to that problem though:

It's what the cool kids are wearing these days.

3.5 miles might just be a warm up for you.
but your 10 mile ride might just be a warm up for some of the other guys on here.

If he's not used to it, then 3.5 miles could be quite a big effort.

(also remember that we dont all live in the middle of a salt flat)

you're a bit grumpy today? :) and im perfectly cool with it, so was he lol, only asked.

wasn't trying to be rude if thats what you're getting at ?

Response from Wiggle is they cannot change the stem as the specification of the bike has changed!

Fitting a 120mm stem to an EXTRA SMALL frame is just retarded.

Anyone want to buy a Deda bar and stem?:p 40cm and 120mm respectively, alloy wrapped in carbon.

Ok, maybe i misunderstood then.
I thought you were basically saying that he should have gone further when he posted about his ride.
I was just making the point that everybody is at a different level*, it was only 5-6 years ago that my longest rides were under 10 miles. These days, 3.5 miles would barely be a warm up. Everyone has to start somewhere.

*ok, i also made the point that where you live is so flat that you can see the curve of the earth....which i make no appologies for :p

did this - http://app.strava.com/activities/70236078

on Sat and it was quite a change from the flat roads in london! :) not as hilly as places around you lot but far from flat tbh, up and down for miles! which surprised and killed my quads :o hopefully going for 30-40 miles this weekend :)

and only ~8ish miles away from my house.

nah he's right i should have pushed it and gone a bit further, after all its a nice motorcycle to ride ;)
seriously though ive been on google maps and worked out an 8 mile route for next time, its quite flat so shouldnt be a problem
main aim thismorning was just to ride the bike, go through the gears (there on the brake levers which is weird for me) and make sure im comfy with saddle height etc
