Excellent effort(s)! Not much stoppage time either. Looked like a great day out on the TV

Then we must both be awesome - or stunningly average! Lets stick with the awesome! I can't be too disappointed by 18.3mph for 100+ miles on very little sleep!

Definitely awesome
Yeah I stopped once for drinks and had to stop for a road crossing, otherwise no problems on that front!
Only problems I found was that there was a lot of first timers there who seemed totally oblivious to how to behave on a sportive - despite there being so much room on the road, people still filled out the road going at the same speed (i.e. very steady) this became really frustrating during descents. At one point I was coming up to a guy who was plodding along and he started moaning that I didn't make him aware that I was there so he could move out of the way
And then there were the folk pushing their carbon up newlands and other "hills"..![]()
and what did i say month ago about people with expensive kit and 0 muscle power to use it?) london is full of guys like that.
You need to strip it down to make sure it isn't superficial, I suspect it isn't thats quite a lot of spacers and the extra leverage does put extra stress on the steerer and frame.
Still make sure there is no play and that the collar/tapered spacer isn't touching the frame in the area where the crack is.
The outside of that bottom tapered spacer should never touch the frame, it has an inner ring inside which should sit on the main bearing. Where the two meet will have some very thin washers that alter the height making sure the spacer sits on the bearing and not the frame. If this area has ever been rebuilt these could have been missed.
Nuts isn't it??
One odd sight - a cervelo R5.. With mudguards.
Yeah I saw that too. Saw a few R5s and S2's. In fact its hard to think of a bike I didn't see today. Saw one bloke on a Derosa King which looked nice. Loads of Cannondales, a fair few S- works. Bianchis a plenty (a black Sempre being the pick of them). Its always fun to see people on £4k bikes going backwards on Leith hill.
I remember most of those! What time did you start? Are you sure we didn't follow each other around?![]()
Aye just taking it apart now. Will update!
Ok it definitely looks to me like a crack in the lacquer, rather than the frame. Should I reduce the number of spacers to reduce pressure? It's at a very comfortable height for me.
I was in Blue group N. Started about 730am.
Would make sense to remove a spacer and flip the stem to a positive rise.
