Alright guys, I've been looking at getting a Giant Defy 1 and I went to my local Giant stockist in Warrington and he offered me a slightly better deal (said he would discount it, but not sure by how much) for the 2013 model given that the 2014 model was coming into stock.

I've tried to compare the various bits and pieces from each model, but which model would you guys go for? Are there really any key upgrades with the 2014 model which are definitely worth having, or should I just make do with the 2013 model?

Ah well I didn't come last yesterday.

160th from approx 175 finishers, about 30 people DNF.

Would have been a lot higher up if I'd managed to stay in a group. The winners group averaged over 45kmh for the 100km.

Not seen the 2014 yet but generally you only get downgrades year on year; increasing costs and fixed price points mean they look for savings.

Right then, off to QEOP for the LondonSurrey100.

I think it's because they're so heinously dull they could make the delivery driver fall asleep and cause an accident.

:D

I see more people buying either cheap Chinese frames, Planet X or ribbles or going the other way and buying overpriced "exclusive" frames.

Someone has to go down the middle, big brand who do a lot of R&D who can backup warranty claims?

Dunno, what would you suggest? I like my LBS and want to give them some business!

I'm just being prejudiced - the Madone and Domane are both excellent frames if the geometry suits you. I just find it hard to get excited about them!

new saddle and paint scheme is the only difference

Did this yesterday - http://app.strava.com/activities/72021131.

A very hard days work, probably the hardest single ride I've done, not the worst I've felt however.

The problem with long rides like that is that you can't commit to absolutely destroying a hill, you're always thinking about the next 50 miles, survival mode.

Good stuff - there's a good café in Longnor, does a fine slice of cake to get you the next few hills

No such luxuries unfortunately. :o An awesome bloke who works with the lads I went with met us twice in his van with supplies however, made the day much easier.

I need to find better food for long days, I was on flapjack and towards the end it was a real trial actually eating it. I don't think I will ever eat it again.

I was also the only one on an ali bike, so would obviously have been at the front the whole time if I was on a carbon. :o :p

I heard Giant will be doing the Propel as a frameset for 2014?

You need someone to update your website with the stock :( You list one R3 in stock no size and the stock photo is a 2012

Have you got any 54's?

I know what you mean. I used Jelly Babies as running fuel when training for the Edinburgh Marathon a couple of years ago. Half way through the race I couldn't face another one - don't think I've eaten one since.
