Who wanted a cheap GPS? grudas?

Bryton 20H for £85 down from £140

Edit; damn. Don't think it's got actual map display.

Nah, you need to go up to the Rider 50 i think to get map display.

I have the 40 and that does a bread-crumb trail type of thing if you need it. Similar to the Garmin 500. Think i paid around £110 for it.

The device itself is excellent, but Bryton's own website is pants and not a patch on what Garmin offer. But if you just want to get a .tcx to load to Strava or whatever then that doesn't really matter.

I think there's going to be a huge number of applications this time round based on the success of this year's event - I know I'll be applying.

I just hope it doesn't turn out like the Marathon where capable runners fail year after year in the ballot in favour of people that walk round in 8 hours. I know that's perhaps a little unfair but there are so few events of this kind that losing a decent number of places to people that aren't that interested would be a shame.

See this I don't understand. I'm on earlies this week so 7-3pm, setting off from home at ~5:55. The ground was wet, lots of early morning dew, and it was cold. I was wrapped up in leggings and my new Softshell, and passed people in wife beaters and shorts..

6am start, about 12c, bib shorts, short sleeve top, sleeveless baselayer, arm warmers, perfect!
If you start off slightly chilly you will be just fine, start off warm and you will likely end up too hot.

you're right i want a proper display and that works out at around 160+ for rider 50..

my 2nd plan is to get a small android phone, defy mini for e.g. for 50-60ish of ebay.. strap it to my bike.. and ill have everything in one place + wateproof.

i don't use ant+ and so on sensors anyway

If you're going to mount a phone to your handlebar, make sure you get a decent mount. I had a Defy that I mounted to my handlebar, unfortunately the mount fell off one day, and went under the back wheel. The result was not great, though fortunately the phone survived. I decided to treat myself to a Garmin after that incident :)

You definitely notice some strange anomalies on some segments. I'm joint 11th/2358 with 26 other peoples going across the suspension bridge:
http://app.strava.com/segments/1079788

There are 41 people in joint 36th and just as many in joint 77th, 106 are joint 117th.

So in the top 223 places there are only 7 different recorded speeds. That's a bit strange no?

Strava rounds the time to the nearest second, which is why so many people have the same time.

Very short segments like that should be banned IMO.

Banning? Bit extreme lol.

There is no point in having those segments at all. As you said yourself, there are only 7 different times in the top 223 positions.

They dont test who is the fastest, just who gets lucky with their GPS location updates. It averages out over longer segments and is much fairer.

I don't think they need to be banned though, as it doesn't harm anyone having lots of people with the same time.

This one is just incredibly popular as it's the famous Clifton suspension bridge[1] so really highlights the issue. There's loads of similar length worthy segments some short sharp evil hills with a lot less people on so a much more varied time. I wouldn't ban those or this. Just write it off as inconsequential in the scheme of things and keep riding :)

well had a little explore on what i thought was going to be semi rough tracks. oooooh how wrong i was, must have walked 3 km's due to the state of the so called road a couple of parts towards the end the road had been totally washed away not rideable what so ever.

wont be doing this again unless they sort the track out.
