yeah i agree they need to up what they spend and hopefully after that cycling debate thing in september that will happen. it stands roughly at £2.20 per person per year goes towards cycling across the uk, campaigners and a few mp's have stated they want that raised to £10 per person.

as for how this money will be spent on that video clip theres talk of the leeds liverpool canal and some super higher in yorkshire.

as for the manchester one they are spending it on this http://cycling.tfgm.com/velocity/Velocity2025_Summary.pdf which is their figures are accurate should at least make manchester a less crowded place with cars a little bit. although i still say they need to look at just banning cars from city centres as a whole and ramp up public transport and cycling just to make it less noisey and dirty in towns.

That looks brilliant. Any easy route into the city centre would be most welcome. I might finally get off my arse and start commuting if that comes through.

Everyone piling in to the Ride London ballot then? Getting flashbacks to London Marathon ballot entries and have the same expectation of success (i.e. nil).

Edit: grudas, that single speed is nice. :D Keep it fixed though!

And has anyone tried the Rapha bib longs (either normal or deep winter) and are they worth the price? If not what would you go for?

Thanks! its going back to freewheel, my brother will probably use it the most and he freaked out when he rode fixed for the first time.. actually he stopped 1 mile to rest because he was sweating like a nob.. :D:D

mine ha a few MM gap I thought it was normal? if I hold my brakes and try push the bike forward/backward there's no movement though other than the forks trying to compress

A gap may be normal depending on the frame, provided there is no movement on braking as you say.

Cheers. I had a Garmin error so didn't record the whole ride. One of the guys I was with captured the whole thing though - http://www.strava.com/activities/73810680

I think 200 is do-able, might need some better shorts before doing that though :o

It's all about contact points on a ride like that I think. My longest is 130 miles I think and everything in contact with the bike was agony by the end. I think I've sorted my shoes and saddle but I need some new mitts. I had numbness in my ring and pinky fingers for 2 or 3 days after on my left hand. :o

My legs surprisingly felt OK.

Edit to clarify on second reading: that's numbness in my ring AND pinky fingers, not "ring, and pinky fingers". That would be much worse.

i think its more a case of when than if now, just hope they do start limit vehicles in city centers to try and ease the roads a bit.

I agree. It was my shorts that let me down as I was the only one with an uncomfortable bum. Everyone else was fine.

The other two guys I rode with have both done 200 miles before and one of them has done some long rides, across the states, 400km audax rides etc so is used to being on the bike.

My longest ride to date is my hundred miler last month, and my arse was killing me by the end of it. I was shifting about constantly trying to keep comfy. I had to sit in really weird positions on the saddle which then meant I was using weird muscles in my legs.

Likewise. My legs were OK. My bum was not.

I'm hoping to do a 150mi ride from London to Notts at the end of the month. I've not really thought about the route I will take.

Do you think I should properly plan the route on bikeroutetoaster and upload it to my Garmin or just type in the postcode of my destination to the 800 and let the route be a (nasty) surprise?:D

After 300 yards, join the M1.

Damn it, I was just about to pick up on that as well!

My DHB Aeron Pro shorts have been a very worthwhile investment for long rides - I highly recommend them. Allegedly the same pad as Rapha and they are very comfortable. My 130 mile ride was the first after I unpacked my bike from its travel case, suffice to say the saddle was not in the correct position but it was a bit late to realise 100 miles in.

The longest ride i have done was 165 miles from Glasgow to Inverness. I spent quite a while planning it. The route was easy, there are only 2 options, but i planned other stuff like checking out where the train stations and B+Bs were on route incase i couldnt do it and had to stop. That's maybe not so much of a problem for you in the more populous parts of the world but you should still think about an escape plan.

what they should do is move the car parks from the city centres and make people walk the extra 5-10minutes.

Newcastle has a ridiculous amount of car parks for how small the city centre is all they do is encourage people to use cars

think of the poor shop keepers!!!! thats all you will hear if you suggest that in public, honestly though town centres are a mess and the quicker they start to limit cars in them the better.

i just hope with this investment they actually invest in proper areas to lock up bikes during the day and employ someone to actually keep an eye on them.

Got my official time for yesterdays Action Medical Research Glasgow 100 yesterday - 6hrs 15 mins 4 secs and I finished 6th overall out of 106 folk that entered (Disclaimer: It is of course, not a race. All speeds above 15kph were done at the cyclists own risk. No hedgehogs were harmed in the making of this ride. One chaffinch was slightly startled.).

Pretty pleased with that.
