Lights and rule #5?

Pretty much... I've got some decent lights, and I'm not too fussed by it. It just sucks that it's harder to go anywhere too exciting when it's really dark. I guess I'll just have to take the downhills slowly and do some more work on my speed on the flat.

yeah those dark times are coming... ew :o :D not a massive problem when i commute but on the weekends i try to get my brother out for a longer ride lately(not much success yet) but we'll probably do 50ish miles next weekend..

the roads we will cycle through once we get out of london have little to no street lighting and are covered in trees/bushes both sides so it'll be dark and possibly really icy once the colder weather hits..

so i guess to have a proper/safe-ish ride we'll need to leave at around 9-10am.

Someone might trip over it while fleeing the building

Can it not be placed somewhere that it wont be an issue which would affect the means of escape for persons vacating the building in the event of an AFA?.

In 24 years in the fire service in relation to legislative fire safety I've seen similar excuses trotted out by some office managers - 'Can't have that anywhere in here because its a fire hazard'. It's a complete cop out and those who use this as a reason to prevent staff bringing bikes inside and placing them safely out of harms way are usually jobsworths who are talking out of their 'arris. :p

That said, if it is in the way then that's a completely different thing though.

I actually enjoy cycling in the dark on those crisp, chilly autumn mornings at 5.30am. Helps if you have decent lights though, which last year I did on the road bike. And this year to keep my hand in on the MTB I'll be giving night riding on my local trails a go for the first time. Should be fun.

tbh if i lock my bike in an open place someone will mess around with it thorough the day..

for e.g. i lock mine up near a train station when im at gym and it stays there for 2 hours MAX

yet i had people rip my skewers out and take them, kick the bike, move it around, adjust the mudguards, kick the chain of the chainset, mess around with brakes and so on..

the fixie that i rode with on saturday got kicked too.. actually you can see a shoe mark in the picture on the seat tube right above the chainset :o

Its official; I heart single speed.

So tempted today to go back to fixed after just one commute.

I don't think I could ever use a fixie on the public roads, to many idiots in cars trying to run you over, need brakes !!

This! Tried it and it's way too dangerous I don't know how hipsters do it but clearly they don't live long looking at their baby faces with massive beards... Or maybe I'm just a wuss... ;/

who is it that's selling the Kurt Kinetic trainer?
just read up about it over on road.cc and bike radar, sounds awesome how much u want for it :p

Not selling one but I just bought one and yes, it's awesome.

First TT tonight, rode the Stockport Clarion's 10 mile on the J2/1 course between Macclesfield and Knutsford. Clocked in at 26:04 (regular road bike, no aero gizmos). Those 4 seconds feel like being full on drop kicked in the testicles by Dan Carter when I could have made them up at innumerable points in the course. Try again next week? :D

But then why not run a freewheel at the back if you've got brakes on already?

For the same reason you dont choose a geared bike over your singlespeed:
more weight
more cost
more maintenance
more to go wrong

Other reasons are that it helps your pedalling technique and also just the feel of riding a fixie is nice.

I can see the point where it might improve your pedaling action but i can't see how it costs more? Freewheel is what 5-8 quid? If you've got brakes already then there's very little difference maintenance/cost wise compared to a fixie?
