GRRR cannot break that 20mph barrier on my bike but did knock 4 seconds off a Strava run coming into my home town. Jumped 20 places on the leader board! Not bad for my first outing in 7 months and at 2am in the morning. Anyone having issues updating Facebook with Strava? Keeps throwing an error for me. Not that 3 miles in 14 mins is a decent thing to boast about :(

Need to get this bike tweaked too. Getting a lot of clatter from the gears and need to check the inner tubes for slow punctures.

God my ass is sore :(

God my ass is sore :(

Not the only one.

Unluckily its an awesome day and I have loads of time to ride this afternoon! :(

Better take the evening off or ill bugger myself for days and won't be able to sit down!

Instead I'm looking online at how good almost any bike looks when you throw some deep (50mm+) dished wheels on it!

Wouldn't worry too much. If you're close to 20mph average now, you'll easily get that in warmer summer weather.

you are just starting out? get some padded shorts or a new seat or you are in for a long wait until your ass stops hurting.

you need to get into the habit of standing on the pedals when you can and letting the blood flow to your butt properly too.

I assume it's a typo - 3 miles in 14 minutes is just ~20 KPH rather than ~20 MPH.

Still, the sentiment stands - at first, progress will be fairly quick :)

I'm entering the RideLondon-Surrey 100 as a rider for the Terrence Higgin's Trust which is the charity we've chosen to raise funds for in memory of my brother.

We've already raised over £2000 for THT since January but unfortunately none of that will count towards the entry so I need to raise a further £500 personally to ride.

Does anyone have the link to a gear radio calculator site mentioned on here in the past??

You essentially typed in your drive train details it is visualised it on screen?? You could then add another set of details to compare ratios...?

Anyone know what I'm on about? :p

I've used http://www.bikecalc.com/gear_ratios, http://sheldonbrown.com/gears/ in the past, but I know the one you mean, it has/had a grey background. Can't for the life of me find it though..

Hmm, so witness statements simply do not corroborate the drivers defence, yet he still gets a suspended sentence? What on earth do we need to happen for sentencing to start taking this kind of thing seriously?

Whilst I believe the reasoning for the defence is utter crap and the verdict is ludicrous the following part makes this no surprise.

"An accident reconstruction found he was travelling at 55mph on the 70mph limit dual carriageway."

Why do cyclists even think about riding on a busy dual carriageway? It's just daft. I do think cyclists should be banned from them.

They ride on them to get places. The road policy of the last 30 years of building them wider to cope with congestion means that sometimes you don't have an option. Try getting from one side of the a24 to the other. I've had to perform a right turn on there before.

Of course they do to get to places, but they (DCs) are as dangerous as a Motorway and I think cyclists should be banned. Of course this means there needs to be alternative options for cyclists. Here in Derby most of the dual carriageways have cycle paths adjacent or very near them, which helps.

On Sunday I was following 2 other cyclists, both on Bianchi bikes in full team kit, and watched them go up the A52 which is the main link road between Derby and Notts, I turned off and couldn't believe they carried on going up it. The road is very dangerous with no speed cameras and people often going 100+MPH. On Monday, ½ a mile from there, I saw a 3 vehicle accident which made me late for work. Mentalists. :D

I know that road well. Absolutely crazy!

It isn't quite comparable to a DC but there is a road near me which runs from Leek to Endon. It is a 60mph road, and fairly narrow. The number of cyclists I see heading along there is baffling. It is a horrible road to cycle along. Cars get very close at fast speeds. Even more baffling when there are much preferable alternatives which bypass the road, taking in much nicer scenery and empty roads.
