You might be better renting one if you're only using it a couple of times. Bikeboxalan is the best case i think.
Having said that, i took my canyon on a plane in one of those hard material boxes (not as rigid as the plastic boxes) and didnt have any trouble.

The france visit is an ironman event so dont want to rent for that event! :)

I know you can rent the bikeboxalans' for a week or two at a time from various places but it will no doubt be a false economy.

Oh and my shiny new bike is here!

Only had time for a 5 minute spin round the block, apparently that's enough time for someone to beep their horn at me because he wanted to come on the opposite side of the road while I was there.... Looking forward to hopefully cycling to work Thursday then getting it out for a good spin at the weekend

Was totally blinded this evening by someone wearing a front helmet light - he was following me and I couldn't see anything when I looked back. People really shouldn't have lights like that for anything other than off road use!

My rear wheel has had all sorts of annoying problems. The latest one was a weird clicking sound that occurred nearly every full revolution. I originally thought it might be a few things but a quick check on the road side showed that none of them were the issue.

Tonight I finally took time to look at it properly and found this:

The crack on the other side isn't quite so bad but still...

Luckily I have swapped the wheels with my old Cotic ones - which though older have done about 1/4 as many miles. This will be used for my turbo trainer until I get round to buying something new...

Yes! I get that a lot! Turn around and you can't see crap! Those 2000+ lumen lights are getting too cheap and widely available so people buy them and use in well lit roads like London streets!

Where do people put them when not in use? My dilemma is that I want to cycle from Geneva to Nice and then fly back again but not sure what to do about the bike box both when I get there/picking up another for the journey back.

If you're flying back from Nice, I'd fly to Geneva with it packed in a cardboard bike box then throw it out and find a new box when you get to Nice and repack it.

Alternatively, there is the CTC option: http://www.ctc.org.uk/cyclists-library/bikes-public-transport/bikes-air I'd probably trust that with a non carbon bike.

rode to work on unshielded 23c race tyre on the rear this morning after yesterday's Stanley blade fun. Maybe psychological, but it felt biblical fast
