Well, some people like to call Manchester southern so I have to get my oar in when I can :p

I'm sure I remember you saying something about not being close to a Decathlon but I've used the Ant+ speed/cad sensor from there (£16) for a month or so now on my main bike and it has been pretty decent.

Got a link to it mate? Can't seem to spot it on their website?

I'll be heading Bristol & Birmingham for shopping before Christmas so it's not totally impossible for me to make it to a store :)

Cheers Roady,. I've just read your reply to me

funny though, I used to cycle to work before I started driving, 5 days a week and I used to cycle from that work place to another location and work another 4 hours until 10pm, I got home at 11pm, went to bed, got up and did it all over again, 5 days a week on a mountain bike

I then crashed one day (car decided to pull out in front of me) I was off the bike for a long long time, I then I started driving so I didn't cycle for years, about 4 years ago I bought anther mountain bike and started going off road in the summer, 2 years ago I stopped that and bought a road bike and now im cycling more often again but for enjoyment only

i shall let you know on the cateye mate

Well today sucked. I had an email at lunch to say my debit card was compromised.... it's my old method of payment.

I went for a 60min spin after work, but 35mins in the jubilee clips I had use to make a custom mount for my Cree, snapped, plunging me in complete darkness on an unlit B road. The torch was too big to fit in my gob, so I had to call for a taxi and use my last remaining cash. My feet arent use to -1'C, I think thermal socks will be on the Christmas list. Shower and early night for me I think :)

Hi guys, I know this has been posted many times before, but please what are the recommendations for winter tyres?
I'm looking for great puncture resistance with the best 'compromise' of grip/cost/weight.

I've used Gator Skins in the past, but I know Monsieur 'Tart doesn't rate them.

Thanks.

On the plus side, my Moon Comet rear light arrived today. It's very good, really impressed. Not sure how long the mount will last, but the light is very bright. For £21, I'm pretty pleased.

Very cold this evening, but went for a few extra miles, and tried my Nasa gloves properly for the first time, seemed to definitely help in the 3c or so it was.

Going to be wearing them tomorrow morning, just hope I don't feel like I did this morning when I get to work!

They're awful tyres indeed.

I've been using Michelin Pro4 Endurance tyres in the wet and they have been great. Unless you're switching to crazy-wide tyres I can't imagine that there will be much in the ~25mm thickness range that is better.

That said, 4 Seasons and GP 4000S IIs are meant to be at least as good, possibly better. More expensive however.

Another 45 minute session inside this evening. By dropping down the gears (about 4 / 5 / 6 from top gear) I've increased my movement by a mile on that run!

That looks much better :)

Cheers. I did go full retard in the last 45 second sprint and popped up to the top gear but i didn't manage to maintain it for very long :(

I often do the same at the end of my sessions to be honest. If I know I'm due to finish I'll just go all out towards the end.

It's always worth doing a few minutes of cool-down though. I'm really bad at making myself do it properly but I try to do at least a couple of minutes of high cadence and low resistance right at the end, in the hope it will help my legs recover faster.

edit: Example from today: http://www.strava.com/activities/222803993

I should have done another 5 minutes or so really.

I was following the youtube vid for a 45 min turbo session, the one on Melbourne streets, some famous road apparently :p which has a 3 minute warm down as standard which i always do.

EDIT

^^ Peak cadence at 187rpm

Ah, it sounds like you're more strict with yourself about it than I am then :)

edit: I think that's just an error rather than a real cadence. I've managed to hit 160 for a second or two once whilst riding out and about, but I nearly fell off :p
