I would really push to see a specialist on that if you haven't already, my wife spent ~6 months trying to recover from an AC joint injury through physio before they realised it needed surgery. A couple of months later it was 90% recovered.

Only happened last night so all slinged and drugged up, and due to see NHS consultant (or their lackey) next Monday. I do have private cover though so I do have the option to see a specialist privately if necessary.

Any Manchester folk fancy the Great Manchester cycle this year? The 52 miler?

28th June.

http://www.greatrun.org/great-manchester-cycle#how-to-enter

With the g/f having bought a bike last year I can finally be assured that I can do most bike events this year that I missed last year.

We both signed up to:

Great Manchester Cycle 52m - very much looking forward to the close roads and no traffic lights.
Manchester Blackpool - 62m - done this twice before, hoping to beat best time.
Winter Warmer (Poynton I think - 60ish miles, March) - first time done this, good prep for Oulton Duathlon the week after.

Winter Warmer we're doing together, the others I subtly told her I would be going off and leaving her so I can try and get a decent time :p

Its one thing being able to do all these events, its another letting her know we wont be riding them together :p

Others I still need to sign up to:

Manchester - Chester
Manchester 100

Cant wait for the summer!

Of course, sorry, should have realised that from your original post. It's just worth bearing in mind down the line. :) Hopefully it proves to be uncomplicated and quick to heal.

Get well soon!

Just found out I got 6th in my 2nd Cat 4 race. 4 points in the bag, only another 8 before I can get to Cat 3 now :)

Congrats! :D

Landed on my shoulder and result is an Acromioclavicular Joint Injury (torn ligaments in shoulder). So several weeks in a sling to look forward to, and no skiing in 3 weeks... :(

Argh! Gutted for you! Are you still going along on your trip? Refundable? If you're feeling brave (and on good pain meds) you might be able to skii - as a learner you don't particularly use you poles/arms (unless you fall over lots) if you're careful! ;)

Failing that - you'll have fun in the bars on the slopes watching your mates/family. :D

On the bright side, the new tyres seem to be very good. The Pro4 Endurance 25mm were good in the wet but these felt extremely solid despite only being 23mm (Pro4 Grip Service Course). I guess time will tell but initial impressions are positive.

If we'd had snow I'd have got some SC/Grip, just strange they only come in 23mm! I'm prob going to pick some up for next winter... Do we know of any problems keeping foldable clinchers 'folded'/new for months before use?

Given my size that would probably work quite well :p I might have my new bike by then so there's a small chance I'll be somewhat more aero-shaped...

You can't be 'big' with the amount of riding you're doing now! I've gone from 15 stone, 36" waist to 13 stone 32" waist and I don't ride as much as you! :P

Need to do my tape/cables, but trying to put it off until the end of the winter, although going to need to find someone to help with my tape, don't want to mess it up!

Is tape really that hard to get right...?! Not done it before and bought some to redo my trainer...

I'm looking at buying a new waterproof jacket - DHB Turbulence. Any idea on the fit? I've really no idea of this sort of thing for me any more as I've lost weight and stuff. When I buy clothes for up top they're often size small now, despite me being 6'1'' Looking at the sizing chart I'm a L in height, M in chest and S in waist.

http://www.wiggle.co.uk/dhb-turbulence-windproof-cycling-jacket-1/

Very confusing.

edit: Actually, a guy I work with has a DHB jacket (not the exact same one - model up I think) size small and I just tried it on. It fits me fine (fairly tight but not skin tight, and that's with me wearing a shirt underneath). I guess I'm going for size small

edit2: Actually, I'm not sure about what to go for now. I want something that is breathable and water proof - not fussed about it being warm as I'll wear a layer beneath it for that. It seems kind of hard to find suitable stuff though, especially if you don't want a giant jacket flapping around all over the place (which I already have and works well aside from the ridiculous air drag).

I've been wearing DHB L jackets, have a commuter (black) I'm probably going to flog as I picked up one of the EQ2.5 (high-viz) to avoid wearing a high-viz vest over the commuter. If a Small is a tight but ok fit you'd go for a medium rather than a Large though?

If anyone else is interested in a L black DHB commuter (can't buy them anymore from wiggle?) I'll sell it for £20 (think I paid ~£40 a couple of months ago and it's in great condition still! I picked up the EQ2.5 for a similar price - I love a Wiggle sale! ;)). Have a Macro Duo up for grabs too, I'm gonna have to start putting things on eBay soon methinks!

I've already been skiing (for the first time) in the New Year week with the family, but my son (aged 15) fractured his shoulder playing Rubgy three weeks before Christmas so couldn't ski with the rest of us.

So, I organised for just the two of us to go out in the Feb Half Term week so he could have his first ski lessons as well. We will still go, but I expect that I'll have sit in the cafes/bars or go walking while he skis :(

You couldn't make it up...!

I like the fact that with the way the shifters have ended up the brakes are jammed on :D

I'm surprised the frame is all still in one piece. I'd have expected the headtube to have been obliterated, or at least snapped off the top and downtubes... Incredible that the frame was stronger than the roof bar fittings.

I think I'd probably want to get it x-rayed, though...

Although, looking closer, it does look like it might have torn the rear wheel out of the non-drive side dropout, so that's probably the end of that.

So my broken Garmin 1000 got delivered back to Garmin today. Has anyone had any experience with RMAing a device to them? Did it take long for the replacement to arrive.

I'm desperate to get my Garmin back, as I need it to train properly really. Although it has been quite nice, cycling around not knowing any stats. I don't think I realised just how much time I spend staring at the screen. Still, I miss being able to review HR/RPM stats, when I get home :/

In other news, triple puncture on the way to work this morning, somebody clearly hates me! I think it's because I cycle quite close to the kerb, otherwise i get a ton of abuse from motorists. I think I'm going to have to bite the bullet, and just accept the abuse. Fun times :)

I've heard they're good but no experience of it directly!

What mobile do you have? Have you still got your speed & cadence sensors (GSC10?)? You could always load IpBike onto your handset providing your phone (Android) has ANT+ sensors :)

As mentioned before, how many miles have your tyres gone? Your number of punctures so far this year is a bit excessive! :(

Ouch! Not yours I hope?! Although it does look like someone driving into a garage? :(

That is totally rubbish luck! See how you're feeling, although with the type of injury there's very little chance of it being sorted in a few weeks :(

If you've booked it as a package, your holiday insurance might cover some of it if non-refundable, certainly any equipment hire & lift passes you should get back by notifying them weeks before rather than days before.

Mine was a paid for repair rather than warranty but as it was a complete replacement unit the turnaround was very quick. Just a couple of days iirc.

Oops, meant to reply to these:

Ah, nice. Have you tried Trainer Road with it? :)

Not tried Trainer Road. Think i had a look at it a while back but didn't bother / slipped my mind. Wasn't sure if i had all the right stuff so that i could get accurate readings on the session.

Only need an ant+ usb stick and speed sensor.

Yeah, it's annoying that they're only 23mm but so far I've not noticed any massive issues switching back to 23. I wouldn't imagine the SC/Grip would help much at all for snow/ice btw. You'll notice it more in wet and dry conditions.

I'm 81kg +/-0.5 so I'm not particularly heavy for my height but at 6'1'' with not the most aero clothes/bike set up I still block a lot of wind for people behind me :)

I want something that's close to 'race fit' as I'm tired of having massive sails attached to my back. I'm hoping that if I can improve my aerodynamics I'll notice things being a little easier at 24mph+. Obviously that's on top of turbo training/etc.

What new bike you thinking of getting?

I was originally looking at the Canyon Inflite Al 9.0 and then considered a few others but pretty much nothing else has hydro discs + ultegra + mudguard mounts (or equivalent) even when you up the budget quite considerably. I'm still deciding but at the moment I'm leaning more towards a Chinese carbon frame build: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1pPKObhdzgskhTY8G26SNbw3eqgmc1-rW4ExwbQAJJCA/edit?usp=sharing

I think the CycleOps Fluid 2 isn't perfect for the virtual power but it's still okay (I think) so as long as you have got a speed/cadence sensor and an ant+ usb stick you're good to go. The workouts on it are really good and the integration with various training videos (including Sufferfest and loads of others) is pretty awesome.

My cobbled together monstrosity of a read mudguard finally completely died today. I'm thinking of getting some SKS Chromeplastics to replace it but I need to read up on suitable mounting options for my XLS carbon/no-mudguard-mounts-because-the-designers-are-idiots frame.
