Had a little set up of my bike, but couldn't find my tape measure to try to match it to my road bike. Had a little ride round the block, the new 105 shifts are absolutely fantastic! Need to bed the brakes in though.
Also got these as my old MTB are getting pretty tatty and don't have much grib left. Got studs in them so will be good for some cross.
Oh and these for posh road riding! (got both pairs for a whopping £9 extra with Evans currently offering £100 of free accessories on some bikes)
I need a new speed and cadence sensor for my new bike, has any bought the new Garmin Cadence/Speed Sensors: http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00JM6DK...m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_r=0Y76NBJC8JGHW3RZ3NTW
Read a few reviews and DCRainmakers review and I'm not sure? Speed sensor looks better as you dont need to attach it to your frame and instead it sits in the rear hub so would be neater on the new bike but dont want to sacrifice looks for incorrect data.
On my winter bike I currently have the old garmin speed cadence sensor GSC-10 which works fine, so dont know whether to just pick on of these up.
Did my first sportive on Saturday at Windsor (https://www.strava.com/activities/257935309), the turbo training from Dec I've been doing seems to be paying off and wasnt too out of shape for the sportive after 3 months of inactivity due to breaking four vertebrae! Next one on Sunday at Sandown for the Surrey downs.
Any recommendations for some shoes/cleats for the Shimano A530's? Just been using normal trainers up until now but think while set up on the trainer I may as well get used to unclipping while on it! Could upgrade to 105/Ultegra pedals though?
No need to change pedals. Just get the best MTB shoes you can afford. Those pedals are SPD so wont match to road shoes. Nothing wrong with MTB shoes the differences between SPD and SPD-SL are largely cosmetic. MTB pedals have the advantage of being double sided which is nice if you are commuting.
Think those two put my wee scuff to shame!
I'm getting more movement into my leg and thumb as the day wore on so I'm lucky its just superficial stuff. I took a quick look at my bike and it appears that the rear shifter has bent slightly and isn't changing properly. I'll wait a couple of days for the bike to 'dry' properly then hook it up to the turbo for some testing and adjusting.
random 10 mins of riding with the superstar/garmin combo mount! if anyone wants to see how it performs! seems alright tbh - ignore the cheesy music, needed something with CC rights quick and this was the first one lol.

...he must be a triathlete.
On Trainer Road I've been converting my kJ to kcal burn at a rate of 1:1. Is this correct?
example: http://www.trainerroad.com/cycling/rides/1732574-White
The stat in question is called "kJ (Cal)". When riding on the road I was under the impression that you would often increase the kcal vs kJ due to inefficiency but with turbo training I guess I originally assumed that wasn't the case. Now I'm not so sure. Does anyone know?
grrr what was the wheel manufacturer! started with s.... had some great wheelsets for like £250-£1000! one of the members here bought a set I remember, they had a nice set of clinchers at 1400g.. can't remember what they were called
I think the TR reading is kcal rather than kJ, based on the numbers, but the label is misleading. You divide kJ by approx 4 to reach kcal which would give you a far too low number.
I want some spd-sl shoes that don't cost the earth and will fit my wide feet, which pretty much leaves me at the Shimano r088s... In white. Damnit.
Back on November or something I was out for a ride in some hideous weather with one of our guys who was wearing bright yellow shoes, like the ones above. The other cyclists at the cafe laughed at him
White shoes are annoying unless you only go out in them in bone dry weather

That was the guy that did an all chinese build? With the SRAM setup?

edit - no it was an RCA copy, that had clinchers at 1100gms.
I got some similar to these, the ebay seller I used isn't selling them any more.

It's hard to find the right balance between climbing and cycling though as both make heavy use of legs.
Just ordered some new kit from Castelli Cafe, Aero Race 5.0 Jersey for £45 and some TT style summer aero overshoes for £23. Also got some new Morvelo bibs from wiggle too.
Looking forward to wearing them in Spain when I go next weekend.
What else helps with cycling/general core toning (would be nice to assist my 'belly loss' which is still ongoing but very gradual!). Planking? I'm not after a gym body, just some easy exercises that don't require weights/equipment so I can fit them into my daily routine (if I don't have to allocate time to doing things they're more likely to get done!)
I wasn't after a gym body/abs, just some 'generic' exercises I can easily include in a daily routine which will help with my core. My body is still adapting to all the exercise after many years of little exercise (but not exactly bad eating/junk food) and I was never really 'fat', just 'large'. I'm now getting more 'medium' and just wanted to round my fitness a little more, don't want praying mantis style arms as my thighs are already quite large
