Then by the middle of the week and into next week the roads will be icy (looking at the forecast)....that time of year i'm afraid. :(

If you're braking a lot (on long descents, etc) then the rims can get very hot. Carbon rims are not as good at dissipating the heat as metal ones and that can lead to problems with the rim. Metal rims also have problems with heat, but you wont damage the rim itself. In extreme cases the inner tube can explode or tubular tyres can slip off when the glue becomes softer in the heat.
Disc brakes get hotter than rim brakes, but they dont have the problems where it can cause a sudden tyre/tube failure.

No, but you can boil the fluid and leave yourself with no brakes.

You'd need to do a huge amount of continuous braking to boil the fluid. Most hydraulic disc brakes use DOT4 fluid, which is the same as most cars use and boils at 230 degrees c.

It is possible to boil the fluid, but even if you do manage it, you dont suddenly have no brakes. You get a gradual reduction in performance ("brake fade") as compressable gasses are released from the boiling fluid, the same as you get in a car if you overheat the brakes.

what the eck.. wake up at 7.30 no rain - roads are wet but no rain! as soon as the time comes for me to leave BOOM heavy rain! fuuuuuuuuu

Not sure if its been said but Boardman have a new range of budget bikes out in Dec, hitting below the 500 quid mark... nice to have a different route in for new comers to the road scene.

Just got a Castelli Velocissimo Equipe jacket that is a Gore Windstopper:-

I've got the Castelli Gabba WS Jersey which is wind stopper fabric too. Awesome bit of clothing, super warm until it reaches very low single digit temps.

Nice, i'm thinking of getting a long sleeved Castelli jersey as well, their stuff isnt cheap but it is uber!

For those of you who ordered a chinese clone light from tomtop_digital on eBay, how long did it take for it to arrive?

I ordered on he 28th October but it's yet to arrive. The delivery window does say up until 28th November but I'm getting impatient and concerned the parcel is lost.

went into a bike shop today, and I almost bought a Gore jacket, but I didnt in the end, i bought an Altura Night Vision as i didnt want a jacket for extreme cold

The Altura is like a long sleeve jersey with propoties of a jacket, windproof, lined and is water replent in some areas, will be wearing it tommorow, oh I did try on quite a few jackets, but this one DID fit me!

that is a great jacket. i know quite a few people that have got those, and love them. hopefully get one soon.

Somebody help me out here because this morning I put so much effort in that it took me a couple of hours before my body settled down and I thought I was going to be sick.
This morning I went past a bloke on what looks like one of these - http://www.wiggle.co.uk/bobbin-shopper/ and I think I've gone past him a few times however this morning was different.
We have to go up a steep hill and I thought this is where I leave him but at my first 'mark' he is still with me, I get to my 4th mark and I'm amazed he is still with me but now I come to the flat where I can stick it into 20th gear and I can fly.
I'm really giving it some and I look down at my bike computer and it's reading 29mph which is definitely the fastest I've gone on the flat but I have a quick glance at my handlebar mirror and he's still with me
I then turn off but I don't have time to turn round get an idea what's going on and how he can be so quick on that type of bike.
Is there something I'm missing? Could he in fact have a motor on it that can reach 30 mph or does it sound like he's either superhuman or adapted it some way?
This has really bugged me all day.

Could have been a brompton folding bike? They are deceptively quick.
The tiny wheels look like they should be slow, but with the correct gear ratios the size of the wheel doesnt make much difference at all.

Moulton small-wheel bikes are famed for holding all kinds of speed records.

Besides, you could put wiggo on your nan's raleigh shopper and he'd still beat you inside out with time for a pasty at the end.
