I think this is just turning into the Road Bike thread since the Big Bike Thread is actually the Big MTB Thread.

Yeah it's nice not having to scan though several pages of MTB posts to find the odd roadie posts.

I have just got a road bike and oh my god - I have spent tonnes on all of the gubbins to go with it.

I went for -

Helmet
Lock
Saddle Bag
Water bottle and holder
Spare tubes
Pump
Tool Kit
Chain de-linker and spares
Bike Computer
De-greaser
Re-greaser (oil)

And tonight I am going to have a look at shoes and clipless pedals

Bye bye money :(

Bye bye money :(

Just hope you don't decided you want to do all your bike maintenance yourself, there's a different tool for pretty much everything :(

Although for most tools if you use them 3-4 times they pay for themselves compared to paying someone to do it for you.

Nice choice of wheels. I have a friend at work who just got the zeros, they look really nice.

My next big purchase will be a set of 7850 CL 24s perhaps.

The 7850 cl24s were on the list (as were the SLs) and I believe that they are tubeless compatible as well. I just didn't trust myself with carbon rims at the moment (I'm a complete carbon virgin).

Am now looking at a 7900 groupset. No idea why, just that ever roadie I overtook on the way home appeared to have it and I got envious.

Yeah. I'll buy a set of wheels for a grand before a groupset.

Yeah, a groupset is going to save weight climbing hills, but I can save that by laying off the pies.

Light aero wheels are a tangible benefit that can't be achieved or overcome in other ways.

Do we get a 'Hybrid' thread? :)

Do it. It's sexy. The chainset alone should swing it. Very beautiful

Right, doing the London to Cambridge in a couple of weeks. Very tempted to get myself a new road bike for around £300. Any suggestions?

At the moment I'm doing it on my MTB with slicks on. Not gonna be racing so the extra effort isn't the biggest worry before everyone goes mental and tells me I cant cycle that far on my current bike.

New rims have arrived :D... just finshed lacing, and time to start tightening and truing.

(Open Pros on Phil Wood hubs 32 hole 3 cross)

Oh, tell me how the Phil Woods go.

Phils are lovely. The hubs i've had for over a year (see Carly in sig). Front DeepV died on me the other day, so going to change both to Open Pro.

Front is finished now, rear will have to wait till the weekend.

Really wish I had the time to learn how to build my own wheels. However, I spend enough time in the garage cleaning, lubing and tightening without anymore distractions.

I'm actually getting rid of two bikes just because I can't keep up with the maintenance (and I want to make space for new shiney ones).
