Got a link to the electrolytes you're buying?

Anyone mix up their own energy drinks as well?

Not sure if this is the one that uniQ is reffering too, but i use Myprotein for most of my supplements.

How many portions do you get out of that?

And do you add anything to it for a better taste?
Any pointers in the direction of starter/medium priced pedals and shoes for a noob road cyclist (been using flats on mountain bike for years so a little apprehensive of clips!)

Shimano R540 and DHB shoes.

Also, It's very easy to clip out. Just unclip early at junctions and lights etc but keep the front of the cleat in. That way if you can go again you can pedal and clip back in, or easily get your foot down. Don't understand how people fall off with them really.

well as promised I did that Hill

first half I went up in 3rd gear, high cadence, 2nd half it got steeper so ended up going into 1st gear

I think its probably just under cat 4

the segment :
http://app.strava.com/segments/1052431

It is just under a Strava category 4 climb.
Strava said:
To decide the category of a climb we multiply the length of the climb (in meters) with the grade of the climb in percent. If that number is greater than 8000 then it is a categorized climb. The minimum percent grade must be 3% or higher. So, for a 4% avg grade climb, it has to be 2km at least to be categorized. Cat 3 = 16000, 2 = 32000, 1 = 64000, HC > 80000.
So, 0.7miles is 1126.5 metres. Multiplied by the 6.7 average gradient gives a value of: 7547.5
Cat 4 starts at 8000.

Awesome.

DA 9000. It's that good. Buy it.

Yep I think I am.

Just gone for Pro PLT compact bars, post, stem, all black Fizik Arione, Zipp black tape, all black Elite cages.
Reusing my black 105 SPD-SL's and DA9000 rims with Conti Force/Attack.

Shimano R540 and DHB shoes.

I've just ordered a DHB M1.0 (via Wiggle) as I use SPD for commuting and long distance weekend. Will feedback how it is when compared to my £20 Aldi shoes, which gave up on me yesterday - only lasted 450miles.

I personally use a Shimano A530 pedals (has flats on one side and the clip in on the other), good for commuting and popping to the shops. The cleat I use is the SH51, but there's SH55(?) that allows you to unclip at all sorts of direction, more useful if you're worried not being able to unclip.

Mind you, I've heard it unclips too easily when one is stress peddaling up a hill, so if that's not an issue, it's worth considering.

Hi guys,

completed the Manchester > Blackpool ride last Sunday on my Specialized Allez which I use to commute to work everyday and am looking at my next bike purchase. I am after Shimano 105 groupset for preferably under 1.5k.

Looking at the Fuji Grand Fondo 2.1 which is on offer at the moment, can anyone suggest a good bike for this price?

thanks :)

Scott CR1 Pro frame from West brook, Ultegra 6700 grey from Merlin, RS80 wheels from Ribble, cash left over for finishing kit/saddle....

If you are local to the north west I can recommend Cycletech at Warton. (Cycletechno1 on Facebook) if you want it building, charges £50 for bike builds.

I had the same orders and I took her to Decathalon and the Triban 3 was purchased.

red one is much better spec than the new white one if you go that route/
although you can only get the red one still if you live near a store that still has stock a lot of them do.

Luckily the Glasgow store had just taken a massive delivery of the old red Triban 3s and had nine 54cm frames in stock! This was just last weekend but the staff seemed surprised at the size of the delivery.

What brake pads do people recommend?

Got my new bike yesterday and the brakes are a little rubbish (though i'm used to 203mm disc brakes). Bike came with tiagra brakes and levers and jagwire cables. So just looking to change the pads for now to gain a little more power.

Bike will be used for commuting and longer weekend rides in mainly decent weather, but will need to work ok in the wet too, as i'll no doubt get caught up in it from time to time commuting in the winter.

I've seen Kool Stop pads recommended, but most of the threads i've seen doing a google search are from a few years ago, these still a good bet?

Opted for some Swissstop Flash Pro Green pads and holders, only gone for 1 pair, at £20 a pair i'll just change the fronts for now, guess the back brake isn't going to be doing that much anyway.

From the reviews these seem like the ones to go for, hopefully they're as good as what the reviewers make out.

Ooo there's a new segment on strava, right near me

funny thing is, its flat really (only a very slight slope) strava thinks its a cat 4 !
http://app.strava.com/segments/4645097

Tell me about it - there are sectors I've done that I think they should be Cat 4 only to have this around where I live to be a Cat4 when it's only a little bump and up on to an A Road flyover...

Bottom line is, as long as it looks tough and you manage to climb it, YAY! Don't worry too much about Strava and the catagory.

This.
The categories on strava dont really mean anything outside of strava. the only thing i'v ever used it for is to sort to show only cat 2 climbs on the segment explore to find the big hills nearby.
