Lovely morning to commute. It was raining when I got up but beautiful sunshine by the time I left. And boy it felt good to be back on 2 (Russian) wheels after a week off

To Clarify, I used a bike bag, but *******ised a Bike Box to go inside for protection along with a lot of bubble wrap!

doing the EPIC 102 miler

I just hope I will be ready

What sort of distances have you done so far?

I did 100 miles last year with about 3500ft, and the nearest I'd done before that was 63 miles. The 100 miles was much harder. The last 20 miles nearly killed me. Take lots of food and drink and eat a lot. I was getting through energy drinks, flapjack, cakes, anything I could lay my hands on.

Last time I wen't out for a ride the bit you do up on the valve snapped off, was fine as I'd just checked the pressure so it stayed closed, but today I pumped up to pressure and removed the pump to find the valve just let all the air out. Not a huge surprise as the core had broken but still a pain. Swap out for the spare tube, get it up to 100psi and another explosion of air as a previous patch must have ripped off!

Didn't get out as at that point I was all out of tubes :( Got a another couple from the LBS now.

Wondering if anyone knows what I should be checking to get my gears working smoothly. I can adjust the rear derailleur so it will change up through the gears smoothly towards the wheel, but going back down causes issues. At it's best I got it so that it would require 2 clicks to go down the first cog, and it would then change smoothly all the way to the 2nd smallest cog.

edit: Seems to be working alright now, put some WD40 on the cable to reduce friction under the BB and unwound the B tension screw. Seems to be working nicely now, better than it has done in the last few months :D Got a bike stand as a valentines present which makes fettling so much easier
