In other news, my bibs from NTFO arrived yesterday (cheers for the link Roady). Haven't had chance to try them yet, but the padding looks and feels very comfortable. I'll probably try them on tomorrow's commute, and will purchase some more if they fit.
Shorts fit very well and I tested them for 40 miles this morning. It seems like the pad is quite far forward but didn't experience any discomfort anyway.
Great & good to hear! Shorts fit similar to Castelli or DHB? Going to swap my Large jersey for a Medium and will report back (prob not until after weekend as can't get to the shop before 5 in the week when they close).
Has anyone ever replaced a battery on a Garmin 800 and can recommend a kit to do so?
Guy I kinda Strava-know (& spoke online lots with blogging and bikes) blogged about it: https://bikevcar.wordpress.com/2015/10/24/garmin-battery-replacement/
Sleep is my stumbling block I think, I used to be fine on 6-7hrs sleep a day. But since I started cycling I've found I need around 9-10hrs.
9-10 hours does sound like a lot, I think my better half is similar as she can sleep from 10pm-6am all week and still need a sleep 'catch-up' of 10+ hours one day on the weekend. Mind you she does work damn hard and isn't exactly big & has a high metabolism. Also being vegetarian (for 18+ years) spends most of the time hungry, increasing calories doesn't have much effect and I'm always trying to get her to eat more protein as I'm convinced it's that. She's not bothered about it but I get bored of watching a film on my own any time after 9.30pm lol.

I know I can 'operate' on 6 hours of sleep a night (did many years of much less when addicted to World of Warcraft!) but it really does impact my riding and 'wellbeing'. I find 7 hours a night about ideal for me, if I get 8+ I either struggle to get to sleep the next night or wake up an hour earlier than my 6am alarm. I get an extra hour or two over the space of a weekend but that is usually from a sunday lie-in, not from going to bed any earlier!
I find keeping a strict schedule helps (ie. going to bed at the same time even at weekends), but it's not great for the social life :)
Agree about this, I find I get better quality sleep with a regular 'bedtime schedule'. My social life is cycling these days...:rolleyes::D
With vivid, magnesium-induced dreams of carbon, Rapha, wattz and aero-ness.
I lol'd. :D

I would say the NFTO Medium = Castelli Large. dhb Medium being larger than both of those on the same scale though I've only got a pair of dhb Vaeon padded tights to compare with.

My pre-bed routine is pretty good, I had insomnia for 3 months about 6 years ago, so I do all of the usual advice with regards to lights etc. Still the earliest I'll get to sleep is around an 60-90mins after getting into bed.

I'm a creature of habit so usually settle down at a similar time each evening. Generally sleep isn't really something I struggle with, I've almost perfected it if you like :p but for some reason when in Germany I really struggled, even with all the riding/fatigue. Luckily I took ear plugs with me just in case and as it happens the rain on the roof and drain pipes was incredibly loud (like being stood next to a tap) so they were a god send. Perhaps it was the bed/bedding or just excitement/fear of the pain face imminent the next day

Did you look at the Look pedals? I moved to them after failing with SPD-SL. The clip in feels a lot more forgiving because of the better lip to attach into. I have basically no problems with them now.

Is it just the clip-in that you are having problems with?
Not a particular problem, just 1 out of 3-4 times I'll end with the pedal reversed, depending on situation I'll either pedal off with it unclipped (usually in traffic/from lights) or coast (after half a pedal stroke) and flip it around. Occasionally I can't get this flip right and I have to glance to check orientation. Other times I'm 50% clipped in and as I put power through the leg it unclips and *pow*, usually a pedal-leg-egg is produced.
I'm going to move to look keo at some point soon, as that'll keep my options open if I go for power meter pedals when I pick up/build a carbon bike in a couple of years.
Will probably do the same. My problem is I have ~£400 worth of shoes/boots which are all 3 bolt and I don't want to go replacing them quite yet! :D:rolleyes:

Cycled this morning for the first time since fitting my Charge Spoon, and feels much better on the whole. Have made a slight adjustment and planning on trying for a 15 mile or so ride on the way home, so should have a good idea if it's made a difference.

Are waterproof bib shorts 'a thing'? A quick google doesn't return a huge amount. I see waterproof/resistant arm & leg warmers so figure there must be some out there...

On showery warm days where a full tight would leave me baking shorts would be quite handy. I've a soft shell and shoe covers so having a wet arse isn't the end of a world on a ride 90-120 mins but much longer and it'd need addressing. Has anybody got any or have any experience?
Yes, they are a 'thing'!

I went the Sportful R&D Fiandre NoRain route as I could then wear them for all of my cooler weather riding without (or mostly) with my Sportful NoRain knee and leg warmers. They do a Fiandre Light NoRain Shorts but I've not tried them. I probably will when I can justify another pair of shorts...!

If the 'NoRain' is anything like my shorts & knee/arm/leg warmers (and my Castelli Nanoflex knees) then the coating will 'wear off' after a month or so and is only good for showers, not heavy rain. Ironing them can invigorate/revive the coating. Wearing a jacket & shoe covers in these kinda temps I usually just put up with damp legs as they dry out pretty quickly/easily and I overheat in more layers (I have waterproof trousers I wear in torrential rain, for anything more than commuting they're 'boil in the bag'). Choice between hot & damp, or just wet. I choose the latter.
Excitement for the breakfast :o
Or frankenfurter nightmares?!

Ah ok. I find my Keo's clip in much easier than the SPD-SL ever did. Even if I don't clip in perfectly, the half clip feels much more secure than the SPD-SL.

Going SPD-SL to Look is fine, as it's 3 bolt. Going Speedplay is going to cause you problems. The one thing I really want is a pair of shoes with the 4th bolt hole in the middle of the 3 for the Look "memory" pin, it helps with cleat alignment when you fit a new set. Sidi's have this, even the Kaos model have it! (Seen here.)

£45 for the Look Keo 2 Max pedals (http://www.wiggle.co.uk/look-keo-2-max-pedals/) these are the ones that I have. You can go fancier (mainly just lighter and the carbon blades). The design of all the Look's is basically the same. I think I have mine set to the lightest unlock tension, and they are still super tight!

I still need to replace the scoop on my Sunday best bike with the Madison flux (same as a spoon) that o picked up the other week. I ride that bike to work today as I didn't need to carry anything with me so didn't need a rack, and I smashed my bifkin on the saddle every time I hit a bump. No one needs that.

www.duraace.com

EXCITING! And launching just in time for the Tour (most likely because it will be incredibly hard to hide stuff there, and they might want some teams using it).

Lot's of teases of the new Dura Ace groupset out there already. But the power meter info will be the most exciting!

Having said that: I really like the look of current Dura Ace (and the sneak photo's of the new Dura Ace in black don't excite me as much)

NFTO bibs and top turned up today.

XL top fits nice - could probably do an L but happy with the XL. Bib shorts seem good quality and nice fit as a well (XL),

Only thing is.....(trys not to lower the tone) - with the bib shorts on, it has the look of a "camel toe" the way the pad sits at the front!!!!

Anyone else thought that - or just me???

Anyway - off for a 30 mile spin in them and will report back.

Well my 15mile ride turned into only 10, after finding what should have been a passable track according to Google maps apparently has been ploughed and is now part of a field. Unfortunately by time I got close enough to find this out, I had already persevered through 2 miles of mud and stony track and then had to backtrack.

Bike is covered in mud and had forgot to buy any more citrus cleaner, so can't even clean it properly tonight.

On the plus side the new saddle works well, and the gatorskins did their job, as half expected a flat from the stones.

Checked my pedals again and the crank arms are well and truly threaded so the Shimano pedals won't engage but curiously my original pedals will. Might have to put up with that for now. Need to set my bike up on my turbo though cos the back wheel is looking a bit wonky after the crash a couple of months back. Just need to make sure before i get new wheels ordered up :(

Edit

Wheel bent as a 12 Bob note so I guess it's time to order new wheels now.

I've ordered the XL but yet to turn up yet. How big are you if you dont mind me asking? Not sure if I should order the L as well.

I ordered the large shorts and large top. Shorts fit great but the top is a bit big for me. Slightly too baggy around my middle but mostly too long which is unusual for me because I'm quite tall.

I'm 6ft and 78kg if that helps with sizing.
