Are you using OpenStreetMaps on your Garmin?

oli collett's garmin had similar behaviour and he found out it was a bug when using OSM rather than the official navigation maps.

Hmm. Yes I am and I did notice the error log has some things to do with map errors but unable to identify if that's the cause as the errors seem to occur more frequently than the crashes. Are the official maps expensive though?

I am indeed having the same problem and from searching on the garmin forum it is map related:
https://forums.garmin.com/forumdisplay.php?362-Edge-810

I get it in two places - one just after starting a Richmond gate ACW lap and another around Pimlico. Apparently it's something to do with the map overlay not lining up and the unit overheats, but it's only started happening with the more recent firmware. For some reason there doesn't seem to be a fix available yet despite loads of people reporting it.

From what I understand the official maps aren't actually that good so I'm not sure what the solution is in the short term!

Cheers guys - useful info.

I've got an 810 too and that's pretty much where mine switches off too... basically on the mini roundabout at Richmond. I notice while going up the mini bump and then it never seems to regain GPS fix until Kingston gate. Mildly annoying.

I don't exactly need mapping for Richmond so I wonder if there's a way to switch it off in an activity profile or bike profile.

NFTO refunded already. Pretty good service! Tempting to order more spare bibs now...

Talkytoaster! Although they are based off OSM so you may have the same mapping error...

Have to admit I changed mine from talkytoaster to whichever DCR used in his guide to try and get rid of crashes... Seems to have stopped many of the 'freezes' I would have when loading a course. But the freezes I have when trying to upload my ride to Connect are worse... Lol!

I used to use the openfietsmap maps. The one's that DCRainmaker recommends. I also used bikehike to design my routes. But I've swapped to RideWithGPS since getting my Elemnt (do it guys, seriously :p ) Since the Elemnt auto downloads routes from it.

About cycling shoes:

How close to the front should my toes be? My heels are sitting securely in the 41, but they are perhaps a bit tight around the top. The 42s feel a lot better,, but there's a gap between my toes and the front of the shoe. It's about the same on the 41s and the 42s.

Heel being back in the shoe, and general comfort is much more important right?

I think I'm currently using the DCR recommended maps and I was probably using talkytoaster before.

You'd want to make sure the ball of your foot would be over the cleat probably.

All my kit turned up today, EQ2.5 looks to be the business... bit short at the front (I'm a small) and the neck is a big rigid so digs into my chin a tad, but look forward to using it when it's bucketing it down and the packable can't handle it.

NFTO kit looks awesome, quickly tried it on for size, again bought is small and it isn't as tight fitted as I had hoped, a little loose but nothing outrageous, will see how it performs on the bike!

Quite high mileage this week has helped my yearly... Broke 2000 miles before the end of June so might break 4000 for the year! Did 3300 in 2015. :D

Having a bit of a catchup with images...

These are the current bars I'm carrying when cycling, really loving the flavour and getting a good solid feel to my stamina. Think they're currently in a Morrisons sale of £2.50 for 5 so they are a little more expensive than I'd normally spend... Although carbs does sound a little low!? Lots of different things within them and quite natural ingredients, thoughts?

Interested to see how you find it, I have mine in Large so it's for commuting in all weathers and was bought when I was 20kg heavier...! Which colours did you also go for?

Yup!

To be honest I play around with the fastenings on mine quite a bit as I have them tight for sprints/big hill efforts, but then if I keep them that tight I get foot aches and a phantom toe in my right foot! ;)

Plan to use mine for commuting & rides I'd normally put off for being pretty horrific, but I got it in black/red for that matching kit. ;) - I didn't like the red one, so the only other choice was black/green.

on the topic of shoes, I'm absolutely loving my recent purchase from Decathlon. They're.. different - definitely different. But, £90 for MTB SPD with two dials and full carbon sole - just silly cheap!

They do actually also come in black - but I assumed these were blue OR pink, not blue AND pink. I thought I'd ordered blue, didn't realise until the online order turned up that you get one of each :p

The roads became rivers here last night and when I had to set off for a job near Hull at 5:30 this morning the roads were like a gravel rally stage! I think the winter bike will be deployed for at least a week. On the plus side I get the free speed boost feeling when I go back to the other one!

Hi guys

Quick question, Im using an edge 520 for mapping, as far as I know live segments wont overlay the route map, but if I switch to a different screen when the segment is coming up will the live segment pop up?
